Accommodation 🏠 If you go to Kanas, you must stay in a log cabin. It looks great in photos, and the area around the cabin is also very photogenic. I stayed at a guesthouse called Youzai Youzai, which was very nice! It even had a smart toilet, and the underfloor heating was adjustable. 📷 I mostly used the iPhone camera. You don't need a reflector in the snow! When the weather is good, the natural reflection of the sun on the snow makes your face look very clear, and you can take great photos without even trying. OOTD Hats, scarves, earmuffs, and sunglasses are essential for the atmosphere and warmth! It can be very cold when the wind blows on snowy days! But when the sun is out, it won't be too cold. Hemu Village in the Altai Mountains of Xinjiang is near the borders of Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan. Hemu is the most intact village of the Tuvan people, a branch of the Mongolian ethnic group, in China. Most of the more than 2,000 Tuvans live in wooden houses in this primeval forest. The small mountain village is located on a flat land surrounded by mountains on all sides, and there are rows of poplars and white birch trees around the village. Kanas in autumn is breathtakingly beautiful; it seems like God spilled the paint palette here! At first glance, I was captivated by this dreamlike autumn view. The trees on the shore seem to be clad in golden armor, and the lake water is a clear Tiffany blue. The quietly flowing lake surface looks like a huge turquoise stone. Occasionally, a few dead branches slant into the water, adding a touch of primitive wildness and tranquility. On the other side, the river is full of vitality, with rushing water crashing against black rocks, splashing white water droplets that sparkle under the sunlight. The blue-green river water contrasts beautifully with the colorful forest, as if nature is playing an autumn symphony. I'm still fascinated by the tranquility of Kanas Old Village. I came to Kanas alone five years ago and stayed in the Old Village. Five years later, I came again with my partner and child, and it feels just the same—still eating at the Taiga Restaurant, still lots of kittens and dogs around. 🏡 This time we stayed at Jian Shan Hai Homestay, which has one of the few family rooms in Kanas. Parking is very convenient with spaces right at the door. It's perfect for self-driving trips, no need to drag suitcases through the snow. The two-story wooden cabin is perfect for a big family with kids like us. The room has floor heating and an electric blanket, so you could say we were woken up by the warmth in the middle of the night. In the freezing snow, the cabin is warm and cozy, truly a feeling of happiness. This homestay has many kittens, not sure if they are pets or free spirits, but they kept coming to our window, all very gentle and cute. The two kids were overjoyed. A black cat kept accompanying Mianmian, following her around; maybe because Mianmian was wearing a black down jacket the same color, they got along very well. Kanas Old Village remains so peaceful and beautiful. Watching the children run and play in the snow, I finally understand this saying: having seen the snow in Altay, you realize that "pure white" is not just an adjective, but a kind of beauty you can truly feel.
