The next morning we headed towards Besisahar, and slowly the real adventure began. From Besisahar to Chame, the roads wound around cliffs and rivers, each turn showing us how grand Nepal truly is. By the time we reached Chame, we were surrounded by pine forests and that familiar cold breeze of the Annapurna region. From there, we moved towards Khangsar the last village before the Tilicho route. The air felt thinner, the mountains closer, and our hearts fuller. Because it was Laxmi Puja, the whole trail felt alive. Far from home, yet hearing dheusi–bhailo, seeing children dancing and people celebrating Tihar in the mountains it made everything even more special. The sound of madal and folk songs echoed through the village, reminding us that no matter how far we travel, our culture follows us. The next morning at 4 AM, in the freezing dark, we started our walk to Tilicho Base Camp. Step by step, we climbed through silence, only the crunch of ice and the glow of headlamps guiding us. Reaching the base camp felt like entering a different world cold, wild, and beautiful. Then came the final push. A long, tough walk, breath slowing, heart racing the trail was unforgiving, but the views kept calling. And finally, at 9 AM, we reached Tilicho Lake. The world seemed to pause. I visited Tilicho Lake in Nepal, on the Annapurna Circuit. Although it was frozen (lol) March is recommended as the trekking season for Annapurna, but the lakes at higher altitudes were still frozen. In summer, you can see a clear blue lake here. Instead, you can experience a world completely covered in snow and mountains, without even footprints. The Annapurna Circuit Trek was such an unforgettable experience. I did it over 18 days, taking it slow, and that was definitely the way to go. I did a bunch of short side treks, which gave me time to enjoy the views and get used to the altitude. The landscapes were incredible—everything from forests to huge snowy mountains. It was tough at times, especially with the altitude and the long hikes, so I was really glad I did it with a group of friends. Even though it was challenging, I’m so happy I did it.
