If you skip the luxury hotels and don't eat at fancy restaurants every day, Korea can actually fit into a reasonable budget. Plus, a nice bonus: Busan is noticeably cheaper than Seoul for accommodation, especially if you want to stay by the sea 🌊 🍂 When to go to save money? Peak season is cherry blossom time, major holidays, and dates of huge events (mostly BTS, lol 😁 So if you're planning on a concert—put your phone down and go to work to earn that money 😂✊🏼 the same applies to cosmetics and clothes). During these times, prices for housing and tickets can spike significantly. However, spring (outside of the blossom peak) and autumn (red maples) are excellent options for the perfect balance of weather, price, and tourist crowds. It's freezing in winter, and summer is rainy and hot. ✈️ Airfare If you buy tickets in advance and track sales, you can save a lot! And once you buy those tickets, consider the trip already started 💕😭 There are two main options: 1. Moscow → Seoul → Moscow Naturally, with layovers in China or Uzbekistan. Don't be afraid of layovers—they are quite manageable. I would recommend at least 3 hours if you’re nervous about making your connection. I’ve flown with a 1:50h layover myself and made it, but I’m experienced! 😂✊🏼 2. Moscow → Seoul / Busan → Moscow You can fly back directly from Busan. Similar layovers in China—choose Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, or Guangzhou. This option can save you travel time back to Seoul. Price-wise, both options usually end up being about the same. 💰 Per person: $540–$720 (45,000 to 60,000 ₽). If you, like me, are not from the capital, add the cost of travel to Moscow. 🏨 Accommodation There is a real difference between the cities here. Seoul is more expensive. A decent place with a private bathroom usually costs about: $48–$72 per night (4,000–6,000 ₽). If you go for a hostel or a very simple option, you can find deals from $22 (1,800 ₽) per night. Stay in central areas near the metro. Don't fall for cheap options far away. You’ll thank me later 😂 because the distances in the city are huge! But if you want to properly experience Korean cuisine and go to restaurants, or if you have a bottomless stomach—expect: From $18 per meal (1,500 ₽). So, for a comfortable food budget, I’d set aside: $36–$60 per day per person (3,000–5,000 ₽). 💰 For 10 days: Economy: $180–$240 per person (15,000–20,000 ₽). Comfort: $360–$600 per person (30,000–50,000 ₽). 🚇 Transport Transport within Seoul and Busan is relatively cheap. Buy a T-money card, top it up at convenience stores, and you’re good to go. These are the rules I follow before every flight. Over the years of traveling, some of them have emerged from some rather unpleasant situations 😅 1️⃣ On the day of departure – only take the stairs** I don't use the elevator when I leave my house. It might get stuck, and instead of a vacation, you're stuck between floors. Thankfully, I live on the second floor 😂 2️⃣ To the airport – only take a taxi I don't take my own car or a car-sharing service. If there's an accident or I get stuck in traffic, I can get out and continue on foot or call another taxi. You can't pull off that kind of stunt with a car. 3️⃣ Arrive 3 hours early Yes, sometimes that seems too early. But if everything went quickly, you can calmly have a coffee, eat, or sit in the business lounge. And if your departure time is suddenly rescheduled, there are problems with your luggage, or a huge line—you still have time. 4️⃣ Always pack a snack I always have a Snickers bar or some snacks in my carry-on. Because a flight delay + closed cafes + a hungry passenger = a bad combination 😂 5️⃣ Power banks only in carry-on I pack all power banks and other devices with lithium batteries in my carry-on, not in my checked baggage. 6️⃣ Documents and money are kept separate My passport, money, and phone are kept in a separate fanny pack. And I don't take this bag off even on the plane. 7️⃣ Boarding is also a strategy If boarding by bus, I try to be the last one on board. If boarding by plane, I'm one of the first. Why? To get on the plane as early as possible. Overbooking is still a thing. 8️⃣ And most importantly – overhead bin space. If you're one of the first to board, it's much easier to grab a carry-on bag right above your seat. You don't have to run around the cabin looking for an open bin. And one more thing: on overnight flights, I prefer to keep my valuables close and under control. 9️⃣ After landing, I'm one of the first to get up. Firstly, I finally want to stretch my legs after sitting for hours. Secondly, this way I can exit the plane faster, get to passport control earlier, collect my baggage, and get to the currency exchange or public transportation. This year, I've flown on three major Chinese airlines: China Eastern, Hainan Airlines, and China Southern. My expectations were varied, and the reality also held some surprises. I'm sharing my honest comparison—I hope it helps you make your choice! 1. 🛫 CHINA EASTERN — A PLEASANT SURPRISE Before the flight, I read a lot of horror stories: it was a budget option, the food was so-so, and the service was terrible. I was prepared for the worst, but... What I liked: · 🎵 Pleasant Chinese music—it immediately sets the mood. · 😊 Very friendly flight attendants, smiling and attentive. · 🍛 The food was excellent! They served two meals a day plus snacks. Delicious buns. There were meat and fish to choose from. · 🧳 International flights of 8 and 10 hours were comfortable. What I didn't like: · 🚻 The restrooms weren't very clean (a noticeable drawback). · 💺 The space between the seats seemed smaller than on other airlines—it felt like they were trying to save space. My rating: a solid 8/10. My expectations were low, but the reality was much better. 2. 🛫 HAINAN AIRLINES — UNMEMBERED EXPECTATIONS Knowing that Hainan is considered one of the best (if not the best) airlines in China, I was expecting something special. But, alas... What I did like: · The plane was clean. · The flight attendants were polite. · Everything was fine on the international flight. 🐟 The food was delicious; on the Beijing -> Osaka flight, we were given fresh red fish. What was disappointing: · ✈️ The plane was old (not critical, but you could tell). · 😨 The domestic flight was memorable for some kind of malfunction. At one point, everyone became ill—we were really scared. This ruined the good impression. My rating: 5/10. They didn't live up to their reputation as "the best." After this experience, I wouldn't say they're better than others. 3. 🛫 CHINA SOUTHERN — DELIGHT AND LOVE I was absolutely delighted with this one! We flew here recently, and it was the most pleasant experience. What I liked: · 🎶 Beautiful, pleasant music. Drinks were constantly being served—you barely had time to finish your drink before they offered you more. 🍜 The food seemed tastier than on other airlines. They didn't serve salmon, but there was a variety and the portions were larger. I couldn't finish it all. ☀️ The flight was easy and comfortable. What I didn't like: 💺 The plane seats are arranged in threes, while others had two. It's less comfortable when there are two of you. My rating: 9/10. In terms of service quality, they were definitely the best this year, despite the longest flight of 11 hours. ⚡️I'd like to point out that my husband and I aren't small or skinny, but we felt comfortable on all the planes on international flights. Hainan Airlines probably had more space. 📌 MY SELECTION TIPS: 1. If you're on a budget and have average service requirements, China Eastern is an excellent choice. You'll get good service for a reasonable price. 2. If you want maximum comfort and quality, I'd recommend China Southern. Even the long flight was comfortable, and the service was beyond reproach. 3. Hainan Airlines – I'm still undecided. Perhaps we were just unlucky, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. 💬 The most important conclusion: more expensive doesn't always equal better, and cheaper doesn't always equal worse. Let's go! 🛜 Communications The easiest and cheapest option is eSIM. If your phone doesn't support this format, no problem: buy a special adapter carrier on any marketplace (that's what I did). It works without a problem. 💴 Money Payments are available everywhere via QR code. For Russian tourists, the easiest way is to set up Alipay—no need for a Chinese number or an international card. Transfers from my Russian bank have always arrived in 2-5 minutes, and they've never let me down. Plus, it has a built-in Didi taxi widget (more on that later). ⚡ Electronics Power banks—only in carry-on luggage and always marked CCC (check, they're very strict about this). Most electrical outlets require an adapter, which is easier and cheaper to buy locally than to search for in Russia. 🗺️ Maps Traditional navigation apps are useless here. I used AMap Global (Russian language available) for navigation and MetroMan for the metro. Everything is intuitive and user-friendly. No registration required—just open it and use it. 🚕 Taxi Book through Didi on Alipay: fast, cheap, predictable, safe, and the new cars are just amazing! You'll occasionally encounter local drivers who try to convince tourists that Didi doesn't work here, only their overpriced wrecks. Don't believe them! 🔀 Language Any translator will do, even Google Translate. But for menus and other mysterious objects, I've found the best option—Trip.com's built-in AI: it translates dish names correctly and sorts them into cards in a couple of seconds. It can also explain from a photo what kind of fruit or thing it is and what to do with it—that was a lifesaver for me. By the way, it can also be used as a regular translator. 💬 WeChat This is a local messenger. It's convenient for communicating with the hotel—you write in Russian, it automatically translates into Chinese, and the replies are translated back. Fast, simple, convenient. 🛫 Took a plane from Guangzhou to Moscow (4555 RMB) around 11 hours 20 minutes. The company was Aeroflot. Some crew members were so rude, lazy to help or lazy to work. This summer's trip. Our visit to Istanbul began with exploring its historic streets and buildings. The Hagia Sophia is a place of power, history, and faith. Delving deeper into history, we visited Topkapi and Dolmabahce. The audio guide made visiting these sights interesting and informative. We stayed at the Ramada Hotel. The location is very convenient, everything is within walking distance: attractions, the metro, tram, and markets. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with delicious and varied breakfasts. It has a swimming pool. After enjoying the historical sites, we headed to Antalya by the sea. We stayed at the Swandor Hotel. We really enjoyed the grounds, the pier, and the entertainment.
