It's interesting to see the tools used in sake brewing in the past on display, and the explanations of how it was made. In the Showa brewery, there are rows of sake bottles made here, making it look like a stylish museum. I had some Kitakata ramen, which features a light soy sauce soup and char siu pork, in the original Kitakata. Kitakata, which flourished as a road town during the Edo period, is a historic place known as a town of storehouses, but what I'm really interested in is ramen! Lol. It seems that there are about 100 ramen shops in this town alone. This time, the famous Sakauchi Shokudo was closed, so I went to the neighboring Matsu Shokudo. The menu only has ramen and char siu ramen (large servings are also available). Since I was there, I had the char siu ramen 😋🍜 Nearby is a general store called Kitakata Ramen Shrine ⛩. In front of the store, there is a torii gate that resembles chopsticks for eating ramen, so I wonder if it's a shrine? However, it seems that the ramen soft serve with Naruto on it is famous. It has been loved by locals for generations as a brewery that produces sake in small quantities, and it seems that 98% of the sales volume is sold locally in Kitakata. Kitakata City Hall About a 15-minute walk from Kitakata Station. The new city hall won the runner-up prize in the 33rd Fukushima Prefecture Architecture and Culture Award. The surface of the wall panels and the opening edges are decorated with locally produced Mitsuya bricks. I went there on the weekend to get a manhole card, and the staff were very polite.

The highlight of the walk is definitely the vintage black steam locomotive parked right in the middle of the path which looks incredible against the soft pink petals. The beautiful weeping pink cherry blossoms (Shidarezakura) are located on the Nitchu Line in Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture. The full name of the line is Nitchusenkinen Jitenshahokoushadou (日中線記念自転車歩行者道), in Kitakata City. The Kitakata Nitchu Line was formerly a railway line connecting Kitakata Station and Atsushio Station. It was decommissioned in 1984 and has been converted into a pedestrian and bicycle path. The steam locomotive (SL) and the cherry blossoms are located around kilometer 1.5. I didn't show the picture because there were too many people in the shot; I couldn't get them out of the way. But the sweet pink cherry blossoms are very beautiful, even though they weren't in full bloom yet. We went during Songkran (Thai New Year). The usual cherry blossoms were in full bloom, but this particular variety was less than 50% in bloom. At the end of the cherry blossom grove, there are warehouses and shops... perfect for taking photos. Getting there: Take the train to JR Kitakata station and then take a bus from in front of the station. If you go during peak season, just follow the crowds. Or, you can walk along the railway tracks, admiring the charming houses and warehouses, and eventually you'll encounter a huge crowd. Sunflower Festival August 4th (Monday) - 24th (Sunday) On the way up, I saw a sign that said, "There's a one-hour wait from here..." Just before entering the parking lot, I asked the attendant, "The sunflowers are pointing downwards, aren't they?" I'm waiting, but I knew it was a little past its peak, so I paid the 500 yen parking fee and headed to the top. I was shocked when I got out of the car! The sunflowers were all over the place, their heads bowed... No way? I didn't expect it to be this bad... What a shame. The eighth store of the Lao Mian Hui in Fukushima Kitakata, the birthplace of Japanese soy sauce ramen. The newly remodeled "Tanpopotei" is now a ramen izakaya at night.
