Far from the hustle and bustle of vibrant commercial districts, this hidden gem preserves the invaluable history of the Musashino land reclamation and a strong sense of local daily life, making it an absolute treasure trove for slow travel enthusiasts. The first stop on the itinerary was "Kodaira Shrine" (Kodaira Shinmeigu Shrine). Stepping onto the sacred grounds, you're immediately greeted by an approach lined with towering ancient trees, setting an incredibly serene and tranquil tone. Sunlight filters through the canopy, dancing on the stone-paved path, while a faint woody scent and an air of solemnity fill the atmosphere. With mostly just locals coming to pray and zero noisy tour groups in sight, you can truly slow down and embrace the purest Shinto vibes and absolute peace of mind. Next, I visited "Kodaira Furusato Village (Kodaira Furusato-mura)," and the highlight that truly blew me away was the "Restored Dwelling from the Initial Reclamation Period"! I've been to quite a few famous "retro historical villages" across Japan, but most are heavily commercialized and packed with tourists snapping photos. Here in Kodaira, however, there wasn't a single foreign tourist to be found! This thatched-roof cottage authentically recreates the primitive homes built by farmers who first arrived to cultivate the land in the early 18th century during the Edo period. From the wooden pillars driven directly into the earth and the thick thatched roof to the adjacent watermill hut and traditional main hall, every detail exudes an immersive sense of history. You'll even see local kids playing with traditional toys in the park square, giving the place an incredibly authentic, lived-in feel. If you're tired of rubbing elbows with crowds at major attractions and are looking for a secret sanctuary to quiet your mind, soak in the history, and capture stunning empty-scene photos, Kodaira City is absolutely worth adding to your Tokyo itinerary!

At first, I was like, "Wait, what exactly is Kodaira Udon?!" I mean, most people have heard of Musashino Udon, so seeing this for the first time totally blew my mind. 
After a little digging 🔍, I found out it's basically the same thing as Musashino Udon.
However, compared to the rustic home-cooked taste (local cuisine) of the Musashino region, it seems to incorporate elements of modern ramen culture (like Jiro-style), giving it a more extreme and punchy character.
Looking into its history, the shop opened back in 2009 when a local ad agency decided to dive into the food biz. By keeping the best parts of traditional Musashino Udon while creating an edgy new style, it blew up through word of mouth and quickly became a wildly popular spot with lines out the door. 
In December 2010, they launched their second location, the Seiseki Sakuragaoka branch 🎉 It’s seriously legit, even making it onto Tabelog's "Top 100 Udon Restaurants EAST" list.

and a pleasantly chewy inside. When you take a bite, the juicy meat flavors just explode in your mouth✨
It makes total sense! The chefs working here honed their skills back when this place was part of the highly popular "Manhokutei"
chain, which was famous mainly in the Tama area. It used to be a branch of that chain before going independent and taking its current name. 
With its traditional flavor✨, precise blend of ingredients✨, and special thick skin✨, their dedication to handmade quality guarantees it's absolutely delicious💮

He reportedly frequented this spot from elementary through high school, and his favorite dish is the "Miso Butter Corn Ramen" 🍜.
Even as an adult, he still drops by for a bowl of ramen from time to time.

Just like the jumbo gyoza, it's served in a massive portion that fills the whole plate‼️ The breading was perfectly crispy, and the chicken was incredibly juicy—simply to die for. I left completely stuffed and super satisfied🤗

About a 40-minute train ride from Shinjuku! There’s actually a hydrangea spot in Kodaira City that not many people know about yet...! It’s within walking distance from the station, so no license needed◎ About 1,500 hydrangea bushes bloom in the Hydrangea Park. The gradient from blue to pink is beautiful, and it seems dogs are allowed too◎ Since it’s near water, there are some mosquitoes, so insect repellent spray might be recommended💡 Personally, I even found a big snail, which brought back childhood memories🫶🏻🫶🏻 I visited on a weekend afternoon, and there were no long lines or big crowds, so I was able to enjoy it! #KodairaCity #HydrangeaPark

The shop specializes in rich Himeji pork bone broth. The interior of the shop is a calm atmosphere with red and black as the main colors. Although the interior is calm, it was quite crowded at peak times and the staff seemed busy. For weekday lunches, a great value set is also available. This time, I ordered the "Vegetable Ramen" and the "Garlic Fried Rice" that I was really interested in, and shared it! You can choose between thin noodles and curly noodles, and I chose the latter. The moderate thickness of the noodles mixes with the pork bone soup, making it a perfect match. The more you eat, the more you feel the thickness. The garlic fried rice was extremely rich. You could taste the burnt soy sauce and lots of garlic. The ramen set came with a mini fried rice. The regular fried rice had a simple taste with a light pepper flavor. Shosenji Temple is located along the Ome Kaido road. It is a Rinzai sect temple of the Engakuji school. The temple enshrines Yakushi Nyorai as its principal image. It was founded in 1686 by Ogawa Kurobei, with Sekirin as its founder. #tripmemory2022 I had to take care of business near Tanashi, so I went to Hitotsubashi Gakuen Station. I've been to Tanashi with my father, but my cousin attended Hitotsubashi University, so I admired it. At one point I bought some red and blue books. I thought it looked a bit rundown, but it turns out that the Kodaira campus is no longer in use and has been integrated into Kunitachi. However, the Showa-era streetscape remains, so it might have been a good thing. There's also a Ramen Jiro.
