#hellochristmas Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region and one of the most unique places in Europe, known for Arctic nature, wide open landscapes and strong Sámi culture. It is best known for winter experiences, but each season offers something different. In winter, Lapland is famous for northern lights, snow covered forests, reindeer, husky safaris and winter activities like snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Popular bases include Rovaniemi, Levi, Saariselkä and Ylläs. Winter days are short, but the atmosphere is magical, especially from December to March. Summer brings the midnight sun, hiking, fishing and canoeing. Trails in national parks such as Urho Kekkonen and Pallas-Yllästunturi are well marked and suitable for beginners. Autumn is quieter and known for fall colors, making it ideal for photography and hiking. Lapland is not only about nature. You can learn about Sámi traditions, visit local villages, enjoy Finnish saunas and try local food like salmon, berries and reindeer dishes. Lapland is perfect for travelers who want peaceful scenery, outdoor activities and a true sense of the far north.

#hellochristmas Lapland in winter feels like a real Arctic experience, with deep snow, frozen lakes and quiet forests. From late November to March, the landscape turns white and days are short, creating a calm and magical atmosphere. This is the best time to see the northern lights, especially on clear nights away from city lights. Popular winter bases include Rovaniemi, Levi, Ylläs and Saariselkä. Activities focus on snow and nature, such as husky and reindeer safaris, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Many visitors also enjoy staying in glass igloos or cozy cabins surrounded by forest. Temperatures can drop well below freezing, often between minus 10 and minus 25 degrees Celsius, so warm clothing is essential. Despite the cold, winter Lapland is very well organized for visitors, with heated transport, guided tours and comfortable accommodations. Winter is also a great time to experience local culture, traditional food and Finnish sauna rituals. Lapland in winter suits travelers looking for adventure, silence and unforgettable Arctic scenery.

#northernlights Finland is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights, especially in Lapland. The aurora is visible on roughly 200 nights a year in the far north. The main season runs from late September to early April, when nights are long and skies are dark. The strongest activity usually happens between 21:00 and 02:00. The best regions are Rovaniemi, Levi, Ylläs, Saariselkä, Inari, and Kilpisjärvi. The farther north you go, the higher your chances. In places like Inari or Kilpisjärvi, you can sometimes see auroras even on nights with moderate activity. Staying at least three nights increases your chance of catching a clear sky. To improve your odds, get away from light pollution. Even a short drive outside a village can make a big difference. Open areas like frozen lakes, hills, or wide valleys give a good view of the horizon. Cloud cover is the main enemy, so be flexible and ready to move if the sky clears. Temperatures can drop extremely low in winter, especially in northern Lapland. Wear layers, thermal socks, proper boots, and a windproof outer layer. Bring hand warmers and something to sit on if waiting outdoors. Many hotels and cabins in Lapland offer aurora alarms so you don’t miss sudden activity. Glass igloos or panorama cabins are comfortable but expensive; open-air spots are just as good if the sky is clear. For photography, use a tripod, long exposure, wide-angle lens, and manual focus set to infinity. Even phones can capture auroras now with night mode. A typical aurora trip includes husky rides, reindeer farms, sauna, and snowshoe walks, but keep evenings free. Patience is key; some nights are quiet, then suddenly the sky explodes with green and pink light.

#northernlights 📅 Itinerary Day 1 · Arrive in Ylläs, check into a lakeside cabin / resort. Resort‑style stays with amenities, but still immersed in snow‑covered nature. · Evening: relax, enjoy cozy dinner. Then — if sky is clear — step outside for possible aurora; many resorts here track aurora forecasts and alert guests so you don’t miss them. Day 2 · Daytime: enjoy winter activities — maybe cross‑country skiing, snowshoeing, lakeside walk, or simply enjoy the silence and snow. · Afternoon rest & warm drinks. · Night: aurora watch again — cabin + quiet forest + dark skies can make for very atmospheric Northern Lights. Day 3 · Morning: relax, enjoy snowy landscape, have a slow breakfast. · Pack & head back home. 💡 Great for travellers who like calm, cozy stays, nature + comfort, and a relaxed pace rather than intense adventure.

One of the things you must eat when you go to Finland is reindeer meat I went to a restaurant to eat reindeer meat for the first time. What does reindeer meat taste like when you eat it locally? First of all, the visual of the steak is really good. It looked like it would be fishy, but it wasn't fishy at all It wasn't tough and was soft. And the food that came with minced reindeer meat and mashed potatoes This was also a very delicious and unique experience.

Kolari means a car accident in Finnish but actually this time the name means an old person making charcoal to be used in a furnace to melt metal. Anyway, Kolari is a little village in Western Lapland too. It’s one of the northernmost stations in the Finnish railroad network but also a place where you can buy one of the best burgers that exist. Kolarin Burger, despite the very basic look of the restaurant is amazing. There are various burgers with relative cheap prices and the taste is amazing! Definitely worth stopping on the way to the northwest ski resorts or on a road trip in Lapland. The place is also conveniently located just near the Swedish border crossing so you can visit the place also when traveling in northern Sweden. I recommend you to try the reindeer burger or if you’re extremely hungry, you can have the 2x220 gram double burger. The prices of menus are 10-20 euros including a drink and well made fries. Pizzas are good too but don’t differentiate from other pizza restaurants as much so I definitely recommend having a burger. #finland #lapland #kolari #burgers #restaurant #roadtrip#urbanexplorer

In the winter, Yllas Mountain is a ski resort. In the summer, it turns into an outdoor paradise for hiking or cycling. There is always a cable car for you to reach the summit of Ulles, and you can spend more than 30 kilometers away from Sweden. For 250 euros, you can get a free coffee or other beverage for a lifetime in the Peak Cafe. Warm and comfortable, very Nordic
