As soon as we arrived at the beach, the fresh air rushed in, instantly invigorating us. My wife took photos, trying to capture these precious moments, while I cleaned my daughter's spoils and put them in a bucket. We didn't exchange many words, but every glance we exchanged was filled with love. My father, though old, was still a master at digging for clams. As he dug, he told us stories of his childhood beachcombing. Those old tales became especially vivid in today's setting, and we listened with great interest, as if we could see the hardships and joys of that era through his descriptions. When we finally decided to call it a day, looking at each other's disheveled yet incredibly happy appearance, we were filled with gratitude for this simple happiness. The Towada Prince Hotel is one of the few hotels in Japan that has maintained a decent level of service. This time, I chose the Half Lake Twin Hotel, a one-night stay with two meals included, and I genuinely thought it was a good combination. Since there aren't many shops near Towada, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on hotel meals, the lobby shop thankfully sold instant noodles, which was enough to satisfy my hunger.

#FebruaryDestinations2026 Kosaka-cho Recreation Hall in Akita Prefecture feels like stepping into a time tunnel 100 years ago, back to the most glorious and bustling Kabukicho of 1910! Luckily, it was the off-season, so we were able to go on stage and explore backstage. In an era without electricity or advanced technology, stage raising, lowering, and rotating all relied on manpower. We became diligent little hamsters, pushing the wooden stakes and spinning the stage with all our might when we heard the people on the wooden stage upstairs stomping their feet as a signal! Also, backstage in the costume and props area, the staff explained that the actors of that era were all men! When I booked the room, I was immediately captivated by the lawn and lake view in front of the hotel. After breakfast, you can stroll along the lakeside path to digest, and when you're tired, return to the hotel lobby for a coffee. Then, sit on an outdoor chair and enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful lake view; time seems to stand still in that moment. The Towada Prince Hotel is definitely a hotel I would visit again. 👍 Advantages: 1. The Western-style dinner set menu was excellent. The beef was incredibly tender and not bloody at all, paired with very finely grated carrots, giving the tender meat a hint of sweetness—Michelin-level quality. The soup was scallop and potato soup, sweet and delicious, perfect for pairing with white wine. This time, I ordered Akita white wine, which had a unique aroma reminiscent of Muscat grapes (or perhaps like Flying Leigh chewing gum). While not as sophisticated as French wines, its distinctive flavor is worth trying for those who want to try something new. 2. Semi-buffet breakfast: The buffet area offers many local dishes, such as award-winning local white rice (however, frankly, Japanese rice these days doesn't taste as good as it used to; I wonder if it's due to climate differences), apple juice, apple curry, etc. 3. The hotel lobby faces Lake Towada, just a one-minute walk from the lakeside. Lake Towada in autumn, with its surrounding bare trees, is truly breathtaking. 👎 Cons: 1. The rooms are a bit old, but considering the view and delicious food, this is acceptable. 2. My skin felt quite dry after soaking in the hot spring, probably due to the water quality in the area. I experienced the same thing the next day when I switched to a Hoshino Resort at twice the price. Lake Towada was enveloped in a sea of clouds in the early morning, creating a fantastic sight. We enjoyed an hour-long stroll along the lakeside on an early morning guided tour exclusively for hotel guests. Applications were required by 8pm the night before, and the fee was 2,700 yen. When we planned this trip, we never expected to encounter beautiful snowy scenery at Lake Towada and Oirase Gorge in mid-November, the off-season of the off-season.
