#freehotelstay The Royal Park Hotel is located in the center of Kurashiki and just less than 10 minutes walk from the Kurashiki Bikan Hostorical Center. The exterior of the hotel and the lobby very much followed the industrial design, with a lot of glass windows to bring ín natural lights. The lobby was cool and inviting - aside from the check in desk, there was also a bar by the entrance. Guests could get three free drinks ( although not a big glass) from the self service bar. Check in could be done via the front desk , or at the self service machine. There was also a pool table for guest use in the lobby. The rooms were new and clean, and cushions in the room used fabric that were made in Kurashiki. Bathroom was in decent size, and each room also had a free cosmetic pouch with beauty product samples for the guests. Breakfast had a good selection and was served on the top floor which commanded a panoramic view of the city. Parking was available but on a first come first serve basis, with a fee. #tripaway Everything is made of jeans. The cones, manhole covers, toilet, vending machines and even coin lockers. No wonder why this place is known as Kojima, Holy Land of Jeans. The street looks so beautiful as everything is made of jeans. There are also shops that sell jeans and eateries. #tripaway

#tripaway I didn’t believe at first jeans is produced in Japan. It started long ago, and at the Jeans Museum, we may see many items made of jeans not only the pants. The two-storey mini museum made me feels like being in a world of jeans. Here, We made our own jeans! We are free to choose our own jeans, buttons, rivets and labels. The staff taught us how to punch the buttons and rivets. It was fun and we learned something new. Worth the pay! #tripaway

#tripaway We decided to spend overnight at Yuurin-an Guesthouse, located at the heart of Kurashiki Bikan. The guesthouse seems like a “share house” but in a traditional wooden home. I was told that the house was built over 100 years ago. Interesting! As their tagline goes, “the traditional Japanese house over 100 years”, we were invited by the ‘Futon’ bedding, the bed that Nobita used in Doraemon. One of the special breakfast in Yuurin-an is their “Tamago kake gohan” or a raw egg topped on a rice bowl. One more thing, don’t be surprised when you suddenly saw many people queuing in front of the Guesthouse, as they will turn into a café in the morning. #tripaway

#tripaway If you love the view of traditional Japanese street, Kurashiki would be the best place for you. I would suggest you to Walk while enjoying the fresh air and breathtaking view of the classical architecture building alongside the Kurashiki Canal. The canal, bridge, alley, and buildings remind me of old Japanese movies. I was lucky to see a few swans and fishes swimming happily in the canal. Truth be told, I was enchanted by the scenic and wonderful view. At night, the street lights brighten up the place more. The most interesting part is we can see the light and building reflected on the canal. Awesome, right? #tripaway

This time, I embarked on a cherry blossom viewing trip in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, strolling through the charming streets and experiencing the unique charm of the cherry blossom season. In the early morning, the sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled shadows that lifted my spirits. I took the JR Sanyo Main Line from Okayama Station and arrived in Kurashiki in about 17 minutes. Stepping out of the station, I walked along the Kurashiki River, where cherry blossoms were in full bloom on both sides. The petals gently floated down with the breeze, making me feel like I was in a pink dream world. I arrived at Kurashiki Ivy Square, where there is a path that cuts through a cherry blossom avenue. Every step felt like wandering in a sea of flowers. The ancient buildings and cherry blossoms complemented each other, making me feel the elegance and charm of Kurashiki. Here, families and friends shared this beautiful time, with laughter filling the air, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. As the afternoon arrived, I headed to Kanryuji Temple. Although the number of cherry trees here is not large, each one blooms proudly, as if showcasing their beauty to the world. I sat on a stone bench in front of the temple, quietly admiring this sea of flowers, with the crisp sound of birds chirping in my ears, bringing a moment of tranquility to my soul. As night fell, the Kurashiki Bikan District once again showcased its enchanting side. I participated in the Kurashiki Spring Night Illumination event, where the streets were brightly lit, and colorful paper umbrellas shone in the night, adding infinite romance to the city. The night cherry blossoms looked particularly enchanting under the lights, leaving me in awe. At this moment, I deeply felt the charm of spring, as if time had stopped in this sea of flowers. Throughout the journey, I tasted the delicious fruits of Okayama Prefecture, enjoyed a leisurely afternoon tea, and felt the profound cultural heritage of the area. The cherry blossom season in the Kurashiki Bikan District is not just a visual feast but also a journey of the soul. Kurashiki Bikan is also known as the Venice of Japan, as the area features a canal network surrounded by cultural heritage. The buildings in this area are largely former storehouses which have been rejuvenated to become specialty stores, restaurants/cafes and museums. Notable attractions include the Ohara Museum, which is Japan’s first museum for western art, featuring works from artists like Monet. You can also take a short 20 min river ride (like in Venice), with tickets easily available at the tourist information center; do grab your tickets early as the number of spots are limited. There are also many restaurants and cafes where you can chill and people-watch. This area is also famous for its denim, so you will be able to find interesting denim products such as denim kimono.
