It's a beautiful 1930s Art Deco building on the corner, with people sitting outside on the terrace, enjoying the afternoon. It looks like it owns the street. You stop and think: wow, what is that place? Pastries and patisseries are arranged like jewels in the display case. Waiters in formal attire move through rooms that still feel like the 1950s. It's elegant, old‑world, and quietly confident. I highly recommend the Uova in Purgatorio – eggs gently poached directly in a bubbling tomato sauce with Parmigiano and fresh basil. Simple, comforting, and delicious. They also do beautiful individual portions of the famous Sacher torte (generous enough for two). Their version uses raspberry jam, which cuts through the rich chocolate cake perfectly. A treat, and worth every cent. The place has been here since 1936, run by the same family for three generations. Poets, artists, and intellectuals used to gather here. Milan is easy to associate with the Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and busy shopping streets, but I found a quieter side of the city by wandering without much of a plan. My first surprise was Villa Invernizzi in Porta Venezia. You can’t enter the private garden, but I stopped outside to peek through the gates and spotted the famous pink flamingos wandering around the pond. It was such an unexpected sight in the middle of Milan. Then I found Via Lincoln, a colorful little residential street often compared to Burano. The pastel houses, tiny gardens, and balconies made it feel completely different from the elegant Milan I had seen around the center. My favorite discovery was Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, a former home filled with more than 300 works of 20th century Italian art. Best of all, admission is free. After seeing Navigli and Brera, these quieter places gave me a different impression of Milan less polished, more local, and much more surprising. #milan #italy
