Be sure to grab a beach chair for €2.50 and enjoy the whole day. 🔥 But the best thing is the variety. I visited over 20 beaches during my vacation, and they were all stunning. Day 1 Explored Roman-era mosaics at Paphos Archaeological Park at a leisurely pace. Followed the path leading to the sea and arrived at Paphos Castle, where taking a photo is a must. Day 2 Early morning visit to Aphrodite's Rock. The sea is so transparent that you understand why the goddess is said to have been born here. 🌊 If you go when the sunlight is perfect, every photo turns out amazing. Day 3–4 | Heading to the Mountains, Troodos Leaving the sea behind for a while and heading to the Troodos Mountains, known as the roof of Cyprus. ⛰️ Day 3 Omodos Village feels like a fairytale with every alley. Strolled slowly and enjoyed a glass of Commandaria wine. Thinking, "This is one of the oldest wines in the world," makes it taste even better. 🍷 Day 4 Visited a few hidden Byzantine churches in the mountains and went for a light trek towards a waterfall. You read that right. To be specific, there are around 1.5 million cats with 1.2 million servants. That is great news for cat lovers. This trip could be purrrr-fection! If you are a lesser fan of the feline species, you might want to head somewhere where you are not overwhelmed by fur. Cypriots tend to be cat lovers. Cats sit in cafes and offices, wander the streets, and sun themselves on any flat surface. If you sleep with your window open, you may wake up to a new friend. Part of the reason is that cats are highly valued in Cypriot history and culture. It is entirely possible that Cypriots began the tradition of human-feline connection a good 2,000 years before the Egyptians. This realization has come from a 2005 discovery, in which archaeologists discovered a tomb in which a young man and a cat had been buried side by side. But Cypriots also have practical reasons for valuing cats. The island is home to a large snake population (not to fear — they are mostly in the mountains). Beautiful little coptic church with the most amazing sunsets. Yes you can get married here and they have candles you can light for a donation. Truly beautiful inside. Lovely place to visit. You can go in and have a look, but you must have a shirt and at least shorts to the knees, respect, and all that. The area behind the church is dominated by a huge pile of discarded sea weed, cleared from the beaches. In April the shoreline is a riot of wildflowers, well worth a visit. What i love about cyprus are these old buildings which adds alot of flavour to the place! Some travelling insights I gain from travelling in Cyprus 1. No trains lines, you can only rely on buses and taxis. With taxis being very expensive, it leaves just buses as the cheapest form of transport. If you have no choice, Bolt taxi app is available in Cyprus, but I notice the supply of taxis is really low and very high price. 2. There are 2 airports, one on Paphos and one is Larnaca. 3. Alot of places accept credot cards, all of the restaurants, shops i have been to all do. However, if you visit village shops or take buses, only CASH! So remember to have spare euros.

I did the harder version: started at the Buffavento Castle trailhead on the Kyrenia ridge road, hiked up to the windswept shell of Buffavento (940 m, about 45 minutes up a loose rocky path from the small parking pull-off), then descended and continued west by car to St. Hilarion for the late afternoon light. Buffavento is free, unticketed, unstaffed—just a broken Byzantine-Crusader outpost where the wind literally never stops (the name means "wind challenger"). No railings, no signs explaining rooms, and the last 10 minutes scramble over fallen masonry, so trail shoes with grip are non-negotiable. From the top you see both the Mediterranean and the Pentadaktylos spine; on a clear day Syria is a haze on the horizon. Then St. Hilarion: €7 entry (summer 9:00–18:45, winter closes ~15:45), 732 steps to the upper royal apartments if you take the direct stair, but I used the mid-wall switchback and paused at the "Queen's Window" ledge—the frame that supposedly inspired Disney's Snow Whitecastle. A bitter Cypriot lemonade at the mid-castle kiosk cost €3 and was the best thing I drank all week. Transport note: no public bus reaches either castle; from Kyrenia harbour a taxi to St. Hilarion return with wait ran me ~€45 in 2025, and Buffavento's track is too rough for regular rental cars—hire a 4x4 or taxi the last 2 km. Mistake I made: doing both in one July day meant I hit St. Hilarion at 14:00 with zero shade and baked on the upper stairs. Go Buffavento at 8 am, St. Hilarion at 16:00.
