Most slopes are gentle, with a few steeper parts that have tree trunks to hold onto or thick hemp ropes tied for support. First, navigate to the Sanbao Village Hujialing Hiking Trail, about a 7-minute drive from Ziying Hotel. The cherry blossoms at the trail entrance have already faded; photo 7 was taken last week. Walking up the steps, you will see a small pond. In summer, the rainwater and stream water from the mountain should make it very beautiful. This section of the ancient trail takes about half an hour. The entire path is paved with stone steps, making hiking very easy. Both sides are lush green, and the ferns under the trees, illuminated by dappled sunlight in the forest, look like a fairyland. At the end of the stone steps is a rest area and a fork in the hiking route. The left path leads to Kaiyuan Temple, and the right path goes to Baguwan Mine Cave and Zhujiling Observation Tower. From here, the path becomes a dirt road. Heading right, this section is also very pleasant. The afternoon sunlight slants in from the right, shining through the forest. You can see typical mountain ranges like Dayoushan and Yongshan, and overlook vast fields of rapeseed flowers in the distance. After another hour, you will arrive at the Zhujiling Observation Tower, which is considered the end of the main Sanbao route. Many people drive or cycle up here to enjoy the view and take photos. From here, walking back along the road to the parking area near the ancient trail entrance takes about two hours. One energy-saving strategy is to take the Sanbao sightseeing bus to Maanling, then hike up to Zhujiling, and from there hike back to the Hujialing ancient trail entrance. The sightseeing bus costs 15 yuan for an all-day unlimited round trip ticket, so after finishing at the ancient trail entrance, you can take the bus back out of Sanbao.
