Chongzuo Spring Festival Family Trip|22℃ Warm Escape + Wild Fun with Kids, a 5-Day Guide for the Whole Family to Enjoy
Took my parents and kids to Chongzuo for the Spring Festival, and we're still savoring the memories! In the warm 22℃ winter, we rode bikes through the countryside, splashed in the water catching fish, and watched waterfalls and rainbows. The elders basked in the sun smiling, the kids chased monkeys—this unhurried itinerary is perfect for a winter break with kids, just copy it~
🏡 Comfortable stays make the vacation: 5 hotels personally recommended
- Chongzuo Lishi: Top-notch environment and service! The room terrace faces the karst peaks, waking up to birdsong in the morning, and opening the window reveals a landscape like an ink painting. Kids can join the hotel's bamboo tube rice experience, elders sip tea by the pool, everyone enjoys their own fun (a bit pricey but worth it).
- Zaiye Suji: The top choice for families! The mushroom house design wins kids’ hearts, with a built-in sandbox and small farm where you can feed lambs and pick vegetables. At night, roasting marshmallows in the yard, elders said “it feels like going back to childhood.”
- Mingshi Yaju: Hidden in the Mingshi countryside, right outside the door is the bamboo raft dock. Book a ground floor room so elders don’t have to climb stairs; open the balcony door and you can touch the rice fields, and in the early morning watch villagers planting rice.
🚗 Classic 5-day route: new fun every day
Day 1: Nanning pick-up → White-headed Leaf Monkey → Stay in Chongzuo
- Land in Nanning, 1.5 hours to Chongzuo. After resting, head straight to the White-headed Leaf Monkey Reserve. The forest ranger said these monkeys are rarer than giant pandas! After half an hour at the monkey viewing platform, we really saw a group of golden-butt monkeys swinging between trees. The kids held binoculars shouting “It’s swinging like a swing!” while elders took photos and murmured “So rare.”
Day 2: Detian Waterfall → Mingshi Cycling → Stay at Lishi
- Morning: Detian Waterfall
Ride a bamboo raft into the waterfall cluster, the splash cools your face, and on sunny days you can see double rainbows! Took the kids to the No. 53 boundary marker, heard stories about the China-Vietnam border, elders touched the marker saying “This is the real national border scenery.” Bought a bag of Vietnamese cashews on the China-Vietnam style street, salty and crispy, kids snacking while strolling.
- Afternoon: Mingshi Countryside Cycling
Rent family bikes for free at Lishi Hotel, slowly ride along the rice fields. Parents rode tandem bikes, I chased butterflies with the kids, letting them splash in puddles along the way, mud spots on their pants, laughing like little wildlings. Watched the sunset on the hotel lawn, mountain shadows stretched long, so beautiful we didn’t want to move.
Day 3: Hena Expressway → Haokun Lake → Tea Mountain Sunset
- Morning: Hena Expressway + Haokun Lake
This “China’s most beautiful highway” lives up to its name! Karst peaks outside the window look like lined-up soldiers, every tunnel reveals a new scene, kids pressed to the window counting “That’s the 8th mountain.” Took a boat on Haokun Lake (60 RMB/person), the water green like jade, parents said “More charming than West Lake.”
- Afternoon: Longyun Mountain Tea Garden
Stay at a tea garden homestay 1314 meters high, pick tea leaves with kids (10 RMB/person experience), elders learned tea frying from farmers, hands full of fresh fragrance. Watched the sunset on the tea mountain, the sun dyed the tea trees golden, took a backlit family photo, atmosphere was perfect.
Day 4: Buliu River Bamboo Raft → Dashiwai Sinkhole → Camping
- Morning: Buliu River drifting
Bamboo raft passed under the Fairy Bridge, looking up at light filtering through mountain gaps, wild monkeys peeked from cliff walls, like entering a rainforest secret realm. The kids were brave, reaching out to catch splashing water, elders busy photographing stalactites on both banks, saying “Better than the caves on TV.”
- Afternoon: Dashiwai Sinkhole
Standing on the “Sea of Clouds Sky Boat” viewing platform, the bottomless sinkhole beneath made legs weak but was super stunning! Took photos on the rainbow trail, enjoyed osmanthus cake and tea for afternoon tea, sweet but not greasy. At night, campfire at site 1466, guide told sinkhole legends, kids listened fascinated hugging marshmallows.
Day 5: Sunrise Sea of Clouds → Huomai Village → Return
- Early rise to watch the karst sea of clouds, peaks like islands in the clouds, parents said “Never seen such a fairyland view in my life.” Explored the sacred tree sinkhole rainforest, taught kids to identify parasitic plants, elders walked slowly with a cane, saying “Got enough oxygen, can eat two more bowls of rice when we get back.” Ate farmhouse dishes in Huomai Village, the native chicken soup was milky white, kids drank two bowls, and said goodbye to the village dog before leaving.
💡 Thoughtful tips for traveling with elders and kids
1. Transportation: Chongzuo’s attractions are scattered, recommend chartering a car or custom tour, drivers know the routes well, elders don’t have to change cars, kids can nap in the car when tired.
2. Clothing: Wear light jackets and long pants during the day (to prevent insect bites), add a sweater in the morning and evening, bring non-slip shoes (the bamboo raft dock is a bit slippery).
3. Food: Choose “Zhuang cuisine restaurants” near scenic spots, lemon duck and five-color glutinous rice suit the whole family’s taste, order non-spicy tomato beef stew for kids.
4. Pace: Only plan 1-2 main attractions per day, leave 1 hour for lunch rest, so elders and kids won’t be tired, making the vacation comfortable~
The beauty of Chongzuo is the laughter in the rice fields, rainbows under waterfalls, campfires under starry skies—bring your family here, no crowds to squeeze through, slowly feel the relaxation in the mountains and waters, that’s the true meaning of vacation~
