1. 【Scenic Area Introduction】
Lianping County is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, at the source of the Dong River, situated in the heart of the Jiulian Mountains. The climate here is pleasant, rainfall abundant, and water quality excellent, with a large temperature difference between day and night. It is not only the golden production area for hawthorn peaches but also a famous ecological barrier in Guangdong.
The phrase "Ten miles of peach blossoms, ten thousand acres of peach orchards" refers to this place. Lianping is not limited to a single scenic spot but centers around Shangping Town, perfectly combining agriculture and tourism. It is the largest hawthorn peach planting base in the country. The peach trees here are not delicate like those in Jiangnan but have gnarled, vigorous branches rooted among rocks, creating the extraordinary "flowers growing on stones" landscape.
Besides peach blossoms, Lianping is also rich in local products. It is the main production area for "Lianping High Mountain Tea" and "Lianping Zhongxin Peanuts," so during the spring flower viewing, visitors can enjoy both visual and culinary delights.
2. 【Flower Viewing Guide】
The peach orchards in Lianping are mainly concentrated in Shangping Town, the core area of the Lianping County Hawthorn Peach Provincial Modern Agricultural Industrial Park. Along National Highway 105, the peach orchards stretch for dozens of miles. The main viewing spots are:
1. Peach Blossom Mountain in Shangping Town (Main Venue): Located beside National Highway 105, about 25 kilometers from the county seat. The terrain is open, and from a high vantage point, you can see the hills covered in crimson blossoms, layered like clouds and rosy clouds, very spectacular. This is the iconic flower viewing spot in Lianping and the site of the annual Peach Blossom Festival opening ceremony.
2. Xiaoshui Village Peach Blossom Scenic Park: Home to the famous Xiaoshui Wind and Rain Covered Bridge, where the ancient bridge and peach blossoms complement each other, full of ancient charm, making it an excellent photography location.
3. Along the Guangdong-Jiangxi Ancient Post Road: Here you can not only enjoy the flowers but also walk the thousand-year-old post road, experiencing the vicissitudes of the ancient commercial route. Hiking here offers the fun of "crossing" two provinces (Guangdong-Jiangxi).
4. Shanshi Taoyuan: The peach trees here grow directly from huge rock crevices. When the peach blossoms bloom, the contrast between the hard stones and the delicate petals creates a strong visual impact.
3. 【Flowering Period】
Best viewing period: Usually from late February to early March each year. Due to altitude and mountain climate, the flowering period may fluctuate by about a week.
4. 【Transportation】
1. Self-driving (best option)
Navigation destination: Directly navigate to "Peach Blossom Mountain, Shangping Town, Lianping County" or "National Highway 105, Shangping Town, Lianping."
2. Public transportation
Take the high-speed train to "Heyuan East Station," then transfer to a shuttle bus to Lianping County seat, and finally take a bus from the county bus station to "Shangping Town."
【Accommodation and Dining】
★ Accommodation:
1. Stay in the scenery: For an immersive experience, it is recommended to choose homestays in the Dongkeng Shui area of Xinzhen Village, Shangping Town.
2. Stay in the county seat: If you require higher accommodation standards or cannot book homestays in Shangping, you can stay in Lianping County seat (Yuanshan Town). The county seat has more complete facilities and is about 25 kilometers from the Shangping flower viewing spots, about a 40-minute drive, which is acceptable.
★ Dining:
1. Lianping Table Dishes (Must-try list)
According to local cultural tourism recommendations, a complete Lianping banquet includes:
· Black Garlic Pork Rib Soup: Made by stewing pork ribs with local single-head black garlic, the soup is clear, with a sweet and sour rich flavor, very nourishing.
· Sweet Potato Vermicelli: Lianping’s specialty sweet potato noodles, chewy in texture, served as the appetizer.
· Ke Meatballs: Classic Hakka steamed meatballs, firm meat texture, springy bite.
· White Cut Chicken: Made from locally free-range chickens, crispy skin and tender meat, served with sand ginger garlic sauce.
· Clay Pot Pig Trotters: Slow-cooked in a large clay pot, the pig trotters are tender and flavorful, full of collagen.
· Stove Fish: Fish dried and smoked using farmhouse wood stoves, with a unique flavor and chewy texture.
· Baked Tofu: Also called stuffed tofu, tofu is pan-fried until golden on both sides, then stuffed with meat filling and braised.
· Stir-fried Pickled Cabbage with Large Intestines: Classic Hakka dish, sour and crispy, very cleanly prepared.
· Fenchen Duck: "Fenchen" is a local spice (mint or perilla type), braised and stir-fried with duck to remove odor and enhance aroma.
· Braised Lotus Root: Lotus root from Jiulian Mountain ponds, soft and sticky, cooked in a pressure cooker until melting in the mouth.
· Scallion and Egg Stir-fry: The simplest farmhouse flavor.
★ Seasonal and Intangible Cultural Heritage Snacks
1. Zhongxin Shijing Ai Rice Cake: If you visit around the second day of the second lunar month, be sure to try the Ai rice cake from Shijing Village, Daping Village, Zhongxin Town. This Hakka snack is made from fresh mugwort and glutinous rice flour, with a history of hundreds of years. Usually filled with peanuts, sesame, and sugar, steamed to release a strong mugwort fragrance.
2. Zhongxin Peanuts: Another major specialty of Lianping, Zhongxin peanuts (especially wood stove roasted peanuts) have been cultivated for over 400 years. Their shells carry a unique smoky aroma, and the kernels are crispy and not greasy. They have been listed as a county-level intangible cultural heritage.
