Stayed at Feinianji Homestay in Liuba, completely relaxed
Family!! I’ve found the ultimate summer retreat for July!!
It’s Liuba in Shaanxi!! Honestly, I hadn’t even heard of this place before. When a friend invited me, I was skeptical, but after going, I didn’t want to leave😭
22°C summer, family!! I stayed there for three days without even turning on the air conditioner, and I had to use a blanket at night!! What kind of magical place is this!!
And the best part is, there are very few people! Super few!! When I went, there were hardly any visitors in the whole scenic area, it felt like I had the entire mountain forest to myself, who understands this feeling!!
Today, I’m sharing my personally tested lazy guide to Liuba, no thinking needed, just follow along!
✨ Day 1: Arrival + Shizigou Pasture, focus on zoning out
Leave in the morning, arrive in Liuba by noon. Drop off your luggage at the hotel, then head straight to Shizigou Pasture!
Trust me, Shizigou Pasture is definitely the most healing place in Liuba! 2,000 acres of alpine meadows, cows and sheep grazing slowly on the slopes, next to a milk-blue little lake. The sunlight sparkles on the lake like scattered diamonds.
When I arrived, I found a shady spot and lay down on the grass, doing nothing but watching the clouds drift by, listening to the cowbells jingling, and feeling the cool breeze. It was so comfortable I almost fell asleep.
Oh, and you can also ride horses here, 50 yuan for two laps. The guide leads the horse slowly, so even if you don’t know how to ride, no worries. I rode once, and the view from the horse’s back was amazing, the whole meadow beneath your feet, wind blowing past your ears, so refreshing!
Be sure to wait for the sunset in the evening! The setting sun dyes the entire meadow golden, the cows and sheep are edged with gold, and the photos come out with a cinematic quality without any editing.
✨ Day 2: Zibai Mountain + Lover’s Valley, a full day of fresh air and lung cleansing
Sleep in naturally on the second day, then go to Zibai Mountain National Forest Park.
Zibai Mountain is really lazy-friendly! There’s a cable car straight up the mountain, no exhausting climbing needed, and you get to enjoy the scenery on the way up, two birds with one stone!
At the top is a vast alpine meadow and Asia’s largest tiankeng cluster—those round sinkholes, one after another, very magical. Standing at the summit looking into the distance, layers of mountains overlap, clouds float right by your hand, and if you’re lucky, you can see a sea of clouds!
I wandered around the top for over two hours, slowly walking along the wooden boardwalk, surrounded by greenery, the air filled with the fresh scent of plants. Taking a deep breath felt like my lungs were being cleansed.
In the afternoon, visit Lover’s Valley. It’s a primitive forest with suspension bridges, streams, and many tall trees. Sunlight filters through the leaves, like walking in the forest of Twilight, very atmospheric.
And it’s especially cool here! When I went, it was past 2 PM, the hottest time, but stepping into the forest instantly cooled me down, even better than air conditioning. Walking along the stream, listening to the water, stepping on stones, I felt completely calm.
✨ Day 3: Liuba Old Street + Return, a slow and easy finish
No rush on the third day, sleep in, then stroll around Liuba Old Street.
Liuba Old Street has a very authentic local vibe, not overly commercialized. Locals live their daily lives here, selling vegetables, breakfast, and chatting on doorsteps. Walking through it feels immersive, like traveling back to childhood.
You can have lunch on the old street, then leisurely head back.
💡 Lazy traveler tips:
1. Definitely bring a jacket! The mountain has big temperature differences. Short sleeves are fine during the day, but it gets cold as soon as the sun sets. I was shivering the first night.
2. Wear comfortable shoes! Although you don’t have to climb many mountains, you still walk quite a bit, so comfy shoes are essential.
3. Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! It’s cool on the mountain, but the UV rays are very strong. I didn’t apply sunscreen the first day and came back a shade darker, cried.
4. Self-driving is most convenient! Liuba’s attractions are quite spread out. With a car, you can stop and go as you please, very flexible.
Honestly, Liuba is a seriously underrated summer getaway. Few people, beautiful scenery, cool weather, and low costs. Perfect for those wanting to escape the city and relax quietly for a few days.
If you don’t know where to go to beat the heat in July, definitely consider Liuba. It will surprise you!
