Viafago Hotel|A Hidden Cloud Sanctuary in the Pyrenees
🏔️Viafago Hotel|A Hidden Cloud Sanctuary in the Pyrenees✨
As the car wound its way up the final mountain ridge, the entire hotel suddenly emerged from the pine forest—the stone-built pointed cottages capped with pristine white snow, smoke drifting from chimneys mingling with the mountain mist, like a scene from a fairy tale❄️
Opening the oak door, the warm scent of firewood greeted me. The receptionist handed me a hot cocoa, her fingers dusted with flour: “We just baked a chestnut pie, want to try some later?” The room key hung on a wooden tag, engraved with the hotel’s name and altitude: 1680 meters🏔️
I held my breath the moment I opened the “Spruce” room: a full wall of floor-to-ceiling windows faced the snowy mountains, a wool blanket lay on the bed, and the fireplace crackled with burning wood. When I drew back the curtains, sunlight hit the snow-capped peaks, dazzling my eyes, and the distant glacier sparkled like scattered diamonds💎
In the evening, I soaked in the hotel’s outdoor hot spring pool. In the -5°C air, steam rose from the warm water. Wrapped in a bathrobe, stepping on the snow with toes numb from the cold, the instant I jumped into the pool, warmth surged from my feet to my hair. Looking up, Orion’s belt was so clear it seemed pluckable🌌
Dinner was served in the wooden cabin, a cast-iron pot simmering local lamb, paired with berry wine. The elderly couple at the next table were regulars, saying they come every year: “In spring to see the alpine meadows, in autumn to pick wild mushrooms, and in winter, well, it’s for this hot soup and the fireplace”🍲
The next morning, I woke early for a hike; the butler prepared a thermos and beef pie. Walking up the trail behind the hotel, squirrel tracks marked the snow, and occasionally a titmouse flitted through the branches. At the viewpoint, the sea of clouds just spilled over the valley, the hotel’s pointed roofs appearing and disappearing in the mist, like a castle floating in the sky☁️
On the day of departure, the front desk handed me a small bag of homemade jam: “Made from wild berries from the mountain, perfect with bread.” As I started the car, I saw the owner wrapping a scarf around the snowman by the door, and suddenly understood why people say, “Once you stay here, your heart stays in the mountains”❤️
Tips: The hotel offers guided snow hikes, book one day in advance; the terrace at 7 a.m. is the best spot to capture the golden sunrise on the mountains, don’t oversleep~
