Villa La Rotonda is a Renaissance villa just outside Vicenza in northern Italy designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The villa’s correct name is Villa Almerico Capra Valmarana, but it is also known as "La Rotonda", "Villa Rotonda", "Villa Capra", and "Villa Almerico Capra". The name Capra derives from the Capra brothers, who completed the building after it was ceded to them in 1592. Along with other works by Palladio, the building is conserved as part of the World Heritage Site "City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto". In 1565 a priest, Paolo Almerico, on his retirement from the Vatican (as referendario apostolico of Pope Pius IV and afterwards Pius V), decided to return to his home town of Vicenza in the Venetian countryside and build a country house. This house, later known as 'La Rotonda', was to be one of Palladio's best-known legacies to the architectural world. It was one of the hottest days of our stay in Padova. At some point, my brother and I quietly abandoned any serious ambition of becoming cultured travellers. Instead of spending the afternoon learning about historical landmarks, admiring architecture, or diving into centuries of Venetian history, we found ourselves pursuing a much more urgent mission: Cold drinks. Tiramisu. Shade. And for my brother, preferably an Aperol Spritz somewhere along the way. When the sun is doing its best impression of a giant pizza oven, priorities naturally shift. During one of our heat-avoidance expeditions, we stumbled upon a charming little spot in Piazza dei Frutti called TreQuarti Bistrò. Now, my Italian vocabulary is far from impressive, but I immediately wondered whether TreQuarti meant "three quarters." Three quarters of what? A meal? A bistro? My energy level after walking around Padova all day? I still have no idea, but I must admit it sounded wonderfully elegant in Italian. Almost anything sounds sophisticated when Italians say it. The bistro itself was effortlessly chic, blending modern style with the relaxed atmosphere that seems to come naturally in Italian piazzas. It was the sort of place where you could happily sit for an hour pretending to be fashionable while doing absolutely nothing productive. And then there was the display behind the counter. A giant bottle of Aperol stood proudly on display like a monument. A beacon. A lighthouse guiding thirsty travellers to safety. I immediately noticed someone staring at it with great admiration. And by "someone," I mean my brother. At this stage of the trip, I was beginning to suspect that Aperol Spritz had become one of his major food groups. The display counter was equally tempting, filled with an assortment of snacks and pastries. I even spotted some beautiful fritters that looked particularly inviting. Under normal circumstances, I would have ordered them immediately. But these were not normal circumstances. These were 31°C-feels-like-40°C circumstances. The kind of weather where even thinking about fried food makes you feel warmer. So instead, I made the only sensible decision. Tiramisu. Cold tiramisu. Gloriously chilled, creamy tiramisu. While my brother enjoyed his beloved Aperol Spritz, I happily focused on dessert, convinced that tiramisu might actually be one of humanity's greatest inventions. Especially when served cold on a scorching summer afternoon. Looking back, TreQuarti Bistrò perfectly captured one of my favourite things about travelling in Italy. Sometimes you don't need a famous attraction, a museum ticket, or a detailed historical explanation. Saying goodbye to Cinque Terre, we officially began our road trip to the Dolomites. 🚗 The most captivating aspect of travel is discovering unexpected beauty along the way. Today's pizza feast in Val Goccia was the biggest surprise of our trip! 🍽️ A feast for the senses with pizza: We ordered four distinct flavors, each a tribute to Italian ingredients. Shrimp and Seafood (Picture 1): Freshly baked pizza topped with sweet and succulent shrimp, paired with rich tomato sauce, the freshness of the seafood and the aroma of the cheese blended perfectly in our mouths. Classic Ham (Picture 2): A generous layer of San Daniele ham, salty and sweet, paired with a crispy crust—this is the purest taste of Italy. Mixed Topping (Picture 3): Want to try everything? Then order this! Salami, bell peppers, olives, mushrooms... a rich and layered flavor like a symphony on the palate. 🍕 Ultimate Shellfish (Picture 4): My first time eating a pizza topped with mussels and scallops! The sweetness of the seawater unexpectedly complemented the tomato base! 👩 My Wife's Approval (Picture 5): Gazing at the Dolomites against the backdrop of the windows, my wife sat at the table, her eyes filled with anticipation for the meal. Even the tableware arrangement exuded Italian elegance. Outside, on the yellow wall, flowers (Picture 6) were in full bloom. #magicalxmastrip Venetian bakeries are a dream! I tried fresh treats like frittelle, which are soft, sugary doughnuts often filled with cream or raisins, and bussolai, buttery cookies shaped like rings. Their cornettos (Italian croissants) were perfectly flaky and delicious with a cappuccino. I also loved the tiramisu, made fresh and oh-so-creamy. Every bakery I visited had such authentic and flavorful items—it was hard to choose what to try next! Venice truly spoils you.

I was fortunate enough to live in the 1200-year-old Nandi Castle in Italy, where Princess Margaret, the sister of the Queen of England, once lived for ten years. Now the main building of the family castle has been converted into a private museum, showcasing the extravagant life of the nobility hundreds of years ago. Each room has its own story and subtle details, which are overwhelming. To visit the castle and enter the Duke's private residence, permission and invitation are required. We were fortunate enough to receive an invitation and took a tour with the castle's butler. The castle is so beautiful, with a flickering fireplace burning flames, emitting the scent of tree resin, and a hint of smoke. There are crossbows from a thousand years ago, a dream kitchen, and everything is a collectible antique. It's all a product of money piled up. You can feel the life full of ritual in the old aristocratic family, which is also a very rare experience! It was very satisfying to stay here for one night in this life. Next to the castle is a guest hotel and an interesting restaurant, but unfortunately it is currently not open to the public. Vicenza, Veneto.
