Hidden gem alert! 🌲 Heads up outdoor lovers: If you’re hunting for adventure vibes and jaw-dropping mountain scenery, Nantahala’s Tellico Gap is calling your name. Think sweeping vistas, pure fresh air, and wide-open spaces—no crowds, just nature at its best.
Must-See Spot: Tellico Gap
⛰️ This trail hotspot sits smack in the Nantahala National Forest and is a gateway to unforgettable hiking. Plug “45 Mountain View Villas, Franklin, NC 28734” into your maps—it’s an easy find and open all day, all year. Whether you’re up for a sunrise trek or a chill afternoon walk, the trail delivers epic Blue Ridge views that are 100% Instagram-worthy.
❤️ Insider tip: Pack your own snacks and water—no vendors here, just you and the mountains. The gravel roads are in pretty good shape, but watch out for slick spots if it’s rained. Hiking boots are a *must*, especially if you want to climb a little higher for that panoramic shot!
Getting Around:
Having a car is the move—public transit options are pretty much zero. Park on the side of the access road and start your adventure on foot.
Food & Fuel: No restaurants up here, but Franklin (about 25 min away) has southern comfort food spots worth the detour—try a classic diner breakfast before you hit the trail.
Quick Tips: No entrance fee, and dogs are welcome if you leash up. Spring and fall have the best weather (cool temps, low bugs), but the trails are beautiful year-round. Bring cash for nearby local farm stands and small towns!

USA North Carolina Dry Falls Mossy Cullasaja Gorge Stop
#slowtraveling Dry Falls, on US-64 in the Cullasaja Gorge, 25 min from Highlands, NC. The overlook platform is 200 m from the parking pullout (free, no fee), but the real walk is the short mossy path down to the cliff edge where you stand behindthe 75 ft falls—spray soaks you in 10 seconds. I went at 8:20 am in May, fog in the gorge, moss on the rhododendron trunks glowing.
Mistake: I wore a rain jacket with the hood down—mist found my glasses anyway. Bring a microfiber cloth. No permit, no toilet (nearest at Bridal Veil Falls 2 mi west). Cash useless; the Highlands cafés take card.
A local fly-fisherman at the overlook shared his thermos and said “the Cullasaja runs brown after rain, the moss runs greener.”
Is a waterfall you can stand behind still a waterfall, or a curtain?

The Beautiful Dry Falls never disappoint.

The Stunning views frim Dry Falls.
This was taken at Dry Falls just down Hwy. 64 in Highlands North Carolina. There is a walk way to walk down to the falls, and it goes behind the falls as the water flows over your head. It is even better when it is in the winter time if you can get to them. I would also highly recommend if your travels take you to Highlands North Carolina make it a point to go, and check it out. You will not be disappointed at the beauty of Dry Falls.
