#worthitornot I flew Port Vila to White Grass Tanna (Air Vanuatu, ~AU$240 return), then paid 3,000 vatu for a shared 4WD transfer to the Yasur access gate. Entry to the Yasur summit zone is 5,000 vatu (about AU$62) after 3 pm, cash only—no cards on the island interior. The last 2 km is a private airstrip made of compacted volcanic ash where small planes land by day; by dusk it becomes the parking apron and the start of the night walk. A local guide leads you up the cinder cone (30 min climb) to the rim bench at ~360 m. Yasur is a strombolian constant—every 5–10 minutes a bomb throws orange arcs 100 m up and the whole ash plain pulses. You sit 150 m from the vent, which is legal only because the wind was steady offshore that night; guides pull you back instantly if it shifts. I wore closed shoes (ash is 40°C in spots), a headtorch with red mode, and a buff—the sulfur stings differently at night. Bring 1 L water; the heat dehydrates you fast even after dark. Mistake: I tried to film with a phone on a selfie stick and the thermal updraft nearly yanked it over the rim. Custom: tip the guide 500 vatu, and don't point your feet at the crater mouth when sitting—customary respect. Is a volcano you can only see after dark, for double the daytime fee, still the better deal?

Why the Solomon Islands, and why NOW? The Solomon Islands just became the Pacific's last true frontier. In 2025, this Melanesian archipelago of 992 islands welcomed fewer than 30,000 international visitors — making it one of the least-visited countries on earth. Yet it holds some of the most pristine coral reefs in the world, WWII wrecks you can snorkel, and a cultural diversity of over 70 languages that exists nowhere else on the planet. New direct flights from Brisbane and Nadi are opening up access, and the government is investing in eco-lodges. This is the Solomon Islands before the world finds it. Save this. You'll use it. 🚐 TRANSPORT: The SBD 3 Bus That Beats Every Taxi The mistake starts at Honiara International Airport. Taxis quote SBD 100–200 to the city center. The shared minibus costs SBD 3–10 (about $0.40–1.20) for most urban routes. They run on fixed routes, leave when full, and connect every corner of Honiara. Pay the conductor in cash. Exact change helps. The inter-island flight rule. The Solomon Islands are scattered across 1,500 kilometres of ocean. To reach Gizo, Munda, or Marovo Lagoon, you need a domestic flight. Solomon Airlines connects Honiara to Gizo, Munda, Segi, and Auki. A return flight to Gizo costs SBD 3,000–4,500 ($360–540). Book at least two weeks ahead — seats are limited. The boat truth. For Marovo Lagoon, Morovo, and the Western Province, cargo boats and speedboats are the lifeline. A speedboat from Honiara to Auki (Malaita) takes 2.5 hours and costs SBD 300–500 ($36–60). For Marovo Lagoon, boats leave from Segi or Munda. Life jackets are mandatory. 🍲 FOOD: The SBD 20 Poi That Feeds a Village Solomon Islander food is not fancy. It's poi — a thick, pounded taro or cassava porridge, the staple of every meal. It's kokoda — fresh fish marinated in lime juice and coconut milk, the Solomon Islands' ceviche. And it's taiyo — tinned fish and rice, the everyday meal in Honiara. The market rule. A plate of poi with fish and greens at a local market costs SBD 20–40 (7–12). Look for the stall with the longest line of locals. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Poi — the everyday staple. SBD 20–40 at any market. · Kokoda — fish in lime and coconut. The coastal classic. SBD 50–80. · Fresh tuna — grilled or raw. SBD 30–50 at the market. · Cassava pudding — sweet, dense, and everywhere. SBD 10–20. · Green coconut — the drink, the snack, and the spoon. SBD 5–10. The kava rule. Kava is the traditional drink — a mildly narcotic brew made from the powdered root of the pepper plant. A shell at a local nakamal (kava bar) costs SBD 10–20. Drink it in one go, then sit in silence. This is not a party — it's a ritual. 🗺️ HIDDEN SOLOMON ISLANDS: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Marovo Lagoon (Western Province) — The largest double-barrier lagoon in the world, stretching over 700 square kilometres and dotted with hundreds of islands. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate, with coral reefs, WWII wrecks, and traditional villages that still live off the sea. Snorkel, dive, kayak, and sleep in a leaf-hut lodge for SBD 200–400 per night. Access is by domestic flight to Segi or Munda, then a boat. No crowds. No queues. Just you and the lagoon. 2. Kennedy Island (Western Province) — A tiny island where John F. Kennedy and his crew swam ashore after their PT-109 was sunk by a Japanese destroyer in 1943. The island is now a memorial, with a plaque, a small shrine, and pristine snorkeling offshore. The wreck of PT-109 still sits on the seabed nearby. Access is by boat from Gizo. No entrance fee. No tour buses. 3. Lake Tegano (Rennell Island) — A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest freshwater lake in the Pacific, sitting in the caldera of an extinct volcano on Rennell Island. The lake is home to six endemic fish species found nowhere else on earth, and the surrounding forest is home to endemic birds and giant orchids. Access is by domestic flight to Rennell, then a 4WD to the lake. No crowds. No queues. Just you and the caldera. Honorable mention: Skull Island (Western Province) — a small island near Munda where the skulls of ancestors are kept in a traditional shrine. It's a sacred site, not a tourist attraction. Go with a local guide. Dress modestly. Don't touch anything. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK The Solomon Islands is not a budget destination — flights are expensive, accommodation is limited, and goods are imported. But with the right approach, it's manageable. It uses the Solomon Islands dollar (SBD), roughly 8.3 SBD to 1 US dollar. · Budget traveler: SBD 300–500 ($36–60) per day — guesthouses, market food, shared minibuses. · Mid-range traveler: SBD 700–1,200 ($84–145) per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional domestic flights. · Poi with fish: SBD 20–40 ($2.40–4.80). · Kokoda: SBD 50–80. · Fresh tuna: SBD 30–50. · Shared minibus (city): SBD 3–10. · Domestic flight (Honiara–Gizo): SBD 3,000–4,500 return. · Guesthouse (private room): SBD 150–300 ($18–36) per night. · Leaf-hut lodge (Marovo): SBD 200–400 per night. Realistic daily budget: SBD 300–1,200 depending on your style. Budget travelers can stay under SBD 500 with guesthouses, market food, and shared minibuses. Mid-range travelers spend around SBD 1,000 with private rooms and occasional domestic flights. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter The Solomon Islands runs on warmth, community, and deep respect for tradition. These aren't tourist rules — they're how the country works. 1. Greet with a handshake and "Halo." A handshake is common for both men and women when greeting someone. Say "Halo" (hello in Pijin) or "Yu oraet?" (how are you?). Between friends, a hug or a kiss on the cheek is common. 2. Use your right hand for eating, giving, and receiving. The left hand is considered unclean. When eating from a communal plate of poi, take from the section directly in front of you. 3. Dress modestly. The Solomon Islands is a conservative Christian country. Cover your shoulders and knees, especially in rural areas and at religious sites. Women should wear skirts below the knee and tops with sleeves. Topless sunbathing is not acceptable outside resort areas. 4. Ask before photographing people — especially in rural areas. A polite "Inap mi kisim piksa?" (Can I take your photo?) goes a long way. If someone says no, respect it. Don't offer money — it creates a transactional relationship that undermines genuine connection. 5. Tipping is appreciated, not mandatory. In restaurants, 5–10% is standard for good service if not already included. For hotel porters, SBD 10–20 per bag. For tour guides and drivers, SBD 100–200 per person per day is appropriate. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You're planning the Solomon Islands in 2026 — it's one of the last true frontiers on earth, with 992 islands and 70 languages. · You want to eat poi for SBD 20 and see Marovo Lagoon before the crowds find it. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. Why Papua New Guinea, and why NOW? Papua New Guinea just became the most culturally diverse country on earth — and the world is only beginning to notice. With over 800 distinct languages across 22 provinces, this is a place where you can meet people whose traditions have remained unchanged for thousands of years. In 2026, cruise tourism surged with 24,407 visitors arriving on 12 international liners, and American holiday arrivals jumped 55% from 2024 to 2025. The government is investing in eco-lodges, and the country remains one of the least-visited destinations on the planet — fewer than 100,000 tourists a year. But here's what the algorithm won't tell you: most visitors stay in Port Moresby, see a cultural show, and leave. They miss the fjords of Tufi, the limestone caves of New Ireland, and the 5-kina mumu where Papua New Guinea actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You'll use it. 🚐 TRANSPORT: The PMV Bus That Beats Every Taxi The mistake starts at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby. Taxis quote K50–100 to the city center. The PMV (Public Motor Vehicle) — Papua New Guinea's shared minibus — costs K2–5 for most urban routes. They run on fixed routes, leave when full, and connect every corner of the capital. Pay the conductor in cash. Exact change helps. The domestic flight rule. Papua New Guinea is mountainous and road-poor. To reach Tufi, Mount Hagen, or the Sepik River, you need a domestic flight. Air Niugini and PNG Air connect Port Moresby to Tufi, Madang, Wewak, and Goroka. A return flight to Tufi costs K1,200–1,800 ($340–510). Book at least two weeks ahead — seats are limited. The riverboat truth. For the Sepik River and Kikori River Basin, the only way in is by dugout canoe or motorized riverboat. A multi-day Sepik River expedition costs K2,000–4,000 ($570–1,140) including guide, boat, and village homestays. 🍲 FOOD: The K5 Mumu That Feeds a Village Papua New Guinean food is not fancy. It's mumu — the national dish, a feast of pork, sweet potato (kaukau), taro, and greens slow-cooked in an earth oven lined with hot stones and banana leaves. It's kokoda — fresh fish marinated in lime juice and coconut milk, the PNG ceviche. And it's saksak — sago and banana dumplings boiled in coconut milk. The market rule. A plate of mumu at a local market costs K5–15 ($1.50–4.50). Kaukau (baked sweet potato) runs K2–5. Kokoda at a coastal restaurant costs K15–30. Saksak is K3–5 from any market stall. Look for the stall with the longest line of locals. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Mumu — the national dish. Earth-oven pork and root vegetables. K5–15 at a local market. · Kokoda — fish in lime and coconut. The coastal classic. K15–30. · Kaukau — baked sweet potato. K2–5. · Saksak — sago and banana dumplings. K3–5. · Bugandi egg drop soup — spinach and choko soup with egg. The highland comfort food. The buai rule. Buai (betel nut) is chewed across Papua New Guinea — you'll see red-stained smiles everywhere. It's a customary practice of chewing the nut with mustard stick and lime powder. It's not illegal, but it's not a tourist attraction. Don't photograph people chewing it. Don't ask to try it unless you're with a local who offers. 🗺️ HIDDEN PAPUA NEW GUINEA: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Tufi Fjords (Oro Province) — One of the few tropical fjord systems in the world, with more than 20 fjord-like inlets carved by ancient volcanic eruptions into steep rainforest cliffs. The water is turquoise, the coral walls are pristine, and the diving is world-class. Snorkeling, kayaking, and village visits are all available. Access is by domestic flight to Tufi Airstrip — a 1-hour flight from Port Moresby. No crowds. No queues. Just you and the fjords. 2. Kikori River Basin (Gulf Province) — One of the largest expanses of pristine forest in the Southern Hemisphere, home to over 16 different ethnic groups still living traditional ways. Travel by dugout canoe through the delta, past Wasi Falls, Lake Kutubu, and giant limestone karsts. Visit burial caves and cave paintings. Shop for bilum bags at Mendi market — the quintessential PNG craft. No roads. No tour buses. Just you and the river. 3. Ligga Unui Cave (New Ireland) — A limestone cave brimming with history and mystery, nestled along the Buluminski Highway in Maiom village, just a 10–15 minute drive from Kavieng town. It's one of Papua New Guinea's most untouched attractions. No entrance fee. No crowds. Bring a torch. Honorable mention: Awawi Falls (West Sepik) — a hidden waterfall tucked in the lush rainforest of Vanimo's east coast, just a 15-minute drive from town. Rich in history and cultural significance, it remains one of PNG's most untouched tourist attractions. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Papua New Guinea is not a budget destination — flights are expensive, accommodation is limited, and goods are imported. But with the right approach, it's manageable. It uses the Papua New Guinean kina (PGK), roughly K3.5–4 to 1 US dollar. · Budget traveler: K360–500 ($100–140) per day — guesthouses, market food, PMVs. · Mid-range traveler: K800–1,200 ($225–340) per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional domestic flights. · Mumu: K5–15 at a local market. · Kokoda: K15–30 at a coastal restaurant. · Kaukau: K2–5. · PMV ride (city): K2–5. · Domestic flight (Port Moresby–Tufi): K1,200–1,800 return. · Guesthouse (private room): K150–300 ($40–85) per night. · Highlands tour (5 days, all-inclusive): from $570 per person for permits. Why New Caledonia, and why NOW? New Caledonia is the South Pacific’s best-kept secret — and 2026 is the year it finally reopens to the world. After the unrest of 2024, tourism arrivals have surged back with a vengeance. In the first quarter of 2026, the territory welcomed 14,000 tourists — a 45% jump over the same period last year. By the second quarter, 17,000 visitors arrived, up 37% year-on-year, and the first half closed with over 31,000 tourists, a 40% increase compared to 2025. But here’s what the algorithm won’t tell you: most visitors land in Nouméa, see the lagoon, and leave. They miss the hidden underwater caves of Lifou, the wild creeks of the Grand South, and the 500-XPF baguette where New Caledonia actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You’ll use it. 🚐 TRANSPORT: The 300-XPF Bus That Beats Every Taxi The mistake starts at La Tontouta International Airport. Taxis quote 15,000–20,000 XPF to Nouméa. The Carsud bus — the airport shuttle — costs a fraction of that and drops you at the central bus station in 45 minutes. Once you’re in Nouméa, the Karuiabus network covers the city for 300 XPF per ride. Buy a 10-ride card for 2,500 XPF and save. The inter-island ferry rule. To reach Lifou, Ouvéa, or Maré (the Loyalty Islands), ferries run from Nouméa’s Port Moselle. The crossing to Lifou takes about 4 hours and costs 6,000–9,000 XPF depending on class. Book a day ahead in high season. For the Isle of Pines, the ferry takes 2.5 hours and costs 5,000–7,000 XPF. The one thing to know: New Caledonia uses the Pacific franc (XPF), fixed at 1 EUR = 119.33 XPF. That means prices feel like euros — and they are. This is France, after all. 🍲 FOOD: The 500-XPF Baguette That Beats Every Restaurant New Caledonian food is not fancy. It’s French technique meeting Pacific produce — fresh baguettes from every bakery, bougna (a traditional Melanesian dish of fish or chicken slow-cooked in banana leaves with coconut milk), and fresh seafood pulled from the lagoon that morning. The bakery rule. A fresh baguette costs 150–250 XPF (13–22) and is worth every cent. Look for the bakery with the longest line of locals at 7 AM. That’s the one. Must-try, ranked: · Bougna — the traditional Melanesian feast dish. 1,500–2,500 XPF. · Baguette — the everyday staple. 150–250 XPF. · Fresh seafood — lagoon fish, crab, and prawns. 2,000–4,000 XPF at a local spot. · Coconut crab — the delicacy of the Loyalty Islands. Worth the splurge. · Tahitian lime — the local citrus, squeezed on everything. The wine rule. New Caledonia imports excellent French wine — and sells it at French prices. A bottle of Côtes du Rhône at a local shop costs 1,200–1,800 XPF ($10–15). At a restaurant, expect 2,500–4,000 XPF. Drink it like a local: one glass, then another. 🗺️ HIDDEN NEW CALEDONIA: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Pernod Creek (Mont-Dore, Grand South) — A hidden creek in the heart of the Grand South, still little known to most Caledonians. It gets its name from the color of its water — a vivid green reminiscent of the famous anise liqueur. The creek is accessible by 4WD or a long hike, and the reward is silence, color, and total immersion in nature. No tour buses. No entrance fee. Just you and the water. 2. Luengöni Cave (Lifou, Loyalty Islands) — A network of coral galleries near Luengöni Beach that leads to an underground pool of cool, clear water. You can swim or even scuba dive through a submerged gallery — the entrance is acrobatic, and that’s exactly what keeps the crowds out. No entrance fee. Bring a torch. Go with a local guide. 3. Les Joyaux d’Inagoj (Lifou) — Emerald water holes hidden in the middle of a lush forest, at the end of a 2.5-kilometer coastal hike. The trail follows the coastline before turning inland, and the pools are so clear they look artificially colored. Almost no foreign tourists make it here. That’s exactly why you should. Honorable mention: The Devil’s Cave (Lifou) — a partially collapsed coral cave full of legends, with bats, lush vegetation, and a two-hour guided visit that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK New Caledonia is not cheap — it’s France in the Pacific. But with the right approach, it’s manageable. · Budget traveler: $110 per day — tribal gîtes, supermarket food, local buses. · Mid-range traveler: $235 per day — Ramada Nouméa, rental car, bougna dinner. · Family of four (7 nights): $5,850 all-in — cheaper than Fiji’s $8,200. · Baguette: 150–250 XPF ($1.30–2.20). · Bougna (tribal gîte): 1,500–2,500 XPF ($13–22). · Local bus (Karuiabus): 300 XPF per ride. · Ferry (Nouméa–Lifou): 6,000–9,000 XPF. · Tribal gîte (private room): 3,000–6,000 XPF per night. Realistic daily budget: 120 with tribal gîtes, supermarket food, and local buses. Mid-range travelers spend around $235 with hotels, rental cars, and occasional restaurant meals. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter New Caledonia runs on French formality and Kanak custom — a unique blend of European and Melanesian traditions. These aren’t tourist rules — they’re how the country works. 1. Greet with “Bonjour” — always. In New Caledonia, you say “Bonjour” when entering a shop, restaurant, or any establishment before you begin browsing or asking questions. A handshake is standard. Between friends, a kiss on both cheeks is common. Rushing past a greeting is considered deeply rude. 2. Respect Kanak custom. In tribal areas, always ask permission before entering — the land belongs to the tribe, not the state. Follow your guide’s instructions. Dress modestly. Don’t photograph people without asking. The coutume — a small gift of cloth, food, or money — is customary when visiting a village. 3. Don’t touch anyone’s head. In Kanak culture, the head is considered sacred. Touching someone’s head — even a child’s — is deeply disrespectful. 4. Dress modestly outside the beach. New Caledonia is French and conservative. Cover your shoulders and knees when visiting towns, churches, and tribal areas. Beachwear is for the beach only. 5. Tipping is not expected. Service and tax are included in restaurant bills, taxi fares, and hotels. Staff are paid French wages. Tipping is not part of the culture — it’s not rude to skip it. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You’re planning New Caledonia in 2026 — arrivals are up 40% and the infrastructure is finally reopening. · You want to eat bougna for $13 and swim in hidden emerald pools before the crowds find them. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. Why Vanuatu, and why NOW? Vanuatu is the most underrated country in the South Pacific — and 2026 proves it. In January alone, international visitor arrivals by air surged 44% year-on-year to 9,657, while cruise ships brought another 36,017 day visitors. Eleven cruise ships called in a single month, representing 79% of all arrivals. Projections for the season show 125 cruise ship calls across Port Vila and Mystery Island between January and April alone. But here's what the algorithm won't tell you: most visitors stay in Port Vila, do a day trip to a volcano, and leave. They miss the blue holes, the underwater post office, and the kava bars where Vanuatu actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You'll use it. 🚐 TRANSPORT: The 150 Vatu Bus That Beats Every Taxi The mistake starts at Port Vila's Bauerfield Airport. Taxis quote 1,500–2,500 vatu to the city center. The mini bus — Vanuatu's shared transport — costs 150 vatu per person for short distances and 300–500 vatu for longer journeys. There's no public transport system — just privately owned minibuses that run day and night. Flag one down, tell the driver where you're going, and pay in cash. Exact change helps. The inter-island rule. Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands, and getting between them requires domestic flights or cargo boats. Air Vanuatu and Vanuatu Airways connect Port Vila to Tanna (for Mount Yasur volcano), Espiritu Santo, and Pentecost. Book early — seats are limited and schedules change with the weather. For the outer islands, cargo boats are the real lifeline. They're slow, unpredictable, and an adventure in themselves. The taxi truth. Taxis are metered in theory but often negotiate flat rates in practice. They're readily available and budget-friendly — 1,500 vatu for a cross-town trip. For day trips, a private taxi costs around 24,000 vatu for a full day of sightseeing. 🍲 FOOD: The Lap-Lap That Feeds a Village Vanuatu food is not fancy. It's lap-lap — the national dish, made from grated taro, yam, or cassava mixed with coconut cream, wrapped in banana leaves, and cooked in an underground oven called uma. It's simboro — grated root vegetables rolled with island cabbage and coconut cream. And it's tuluk — a dense, savory pudding of grated cassava and coconut, wrapped and steamed. The local eatery rule. A plate of lap-lap at a local spot costs 1,000–2,000 vatu (US7–13). Look for the stall with the longest line of locals. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Lap-lap — the national dish. 1,000–2,000 vatu at a local spot. · Simboro — root vegetable rolls with coconut cream. 500–1,000 vatu. · Tuluk — savory cassava and coconut pudding. The comfort food. · Fresh coconut — 100–200 vatu from any roadside vendor. · Kava — a cup of the traditional drink costs 100 vatu (less than US$1). The kava rule. Kava is Vanuatu's national drink — a mildly narcotic brew made from the powdered root of the pepper plant. It numbs your tongue and teeth. A shell costs 100 vatu at any nakamal (kava bar). Drink it in one go, then sit in silence and let it wash over you. Don't drink alcohol before kava. Don't be loud. This is not a party — it's a ritual. 🗺️ HIDDEN VANUATU: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Blue Cave (Tanna Island) — On Tanna's northwest coast, a half-submerged rock opening leads into a hidden cave filled with luminescent blue water. You have to hold your breath and freedive through the opening — no diving equipment needed, just nerve and a mask. Once inside, the light filters through the water and turns everything an impossible shade of blue. No tour buses. No entrance fee. Just you and the cave. 2. Hideaway Island (Efate) — A coral sanctuary just 30 minutes from Port Vila, home to the world's only underwater post office, sitting 3 meters below the surface. Bring a waterproof postcard, dive down, and mail it. The island is a marine protected area — the snorkeling is extraordinary, and the beach is quiet. Accessible by a short boat ride from the mainland. Entry is a few hundred vatu. 3. Moso Island (Efate) — A speck of an island just a 40-minute drive and 10-minute boat ride from Port Vila, where you can start your day surrounded by azure water, sipping lime juice and eating fruit harvested from the gardens around you. There are no resorts. No crowds. Just a few guesthouses, pristine snorkeling, and the kind of silence you can't find anywhere else. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Vanuatu is not cheap by Pacific standards — but it's manageable if you eat at markets and take minibuses. · Budget traveler: 9,500 vatu (US$80) per day — guesthouses, market food, minibuses. · Mid-range traveler: 34,000 vatu (US$285) per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional taxis. · Luxury traveler: 121,000 vatu (US$1,015) per day — resorts, fine dining, private transfers. · Lap-lap (local spot): 1,000–2,000 vatu. · Kava (one shell): 100 vatu. · Minibus (short): 150 vatu per person. · Minibus (longer): 300–500 vatu. · Taxi (cross-town): 1,500 vatu. · Basic room for two: 5,000–8,000 vatu. · Resort double room: 17,000–24,000 vatu. Realistic daily budget: US100 with guesthouses, market food, and minibuses. Mid-range travelers spend around US$280 with private rooms and occasional restaurant meals. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter Vanuatu runs on kastom — traditional customs that are at the heart of Ni-Vanuatu life. These aren't tourist rules — they're how the country works. 1. Respect kastom. Traditional customs are sacred. When entering a village, wait to be greeted by a host, and ask permission from the chief before wandering. Don't bring or consume alcohol when staying in a village. Your guide will explain the rules — listen. 2. Dress modestly. Vanuatu is a predominantly Christian nation, and locals cover their shoulders and knees. Wear loose clothing that covers your shoulders and knees when visiting villages. Revealing shorts or swimwear can be seen as disrespectful — even flirtatious. 3. The eyebrow raise is a greeting. A quick raise of the eyebrows up and down acts as a greeting, an acknowledgment, and an agreement. It's the universal Ni-Vanuatu "yes." A firm handshake is standard for formal situations; friends may exchange a kiss on the cheek. 4. Don't walk between two people talking. It's considered rude. Let the other person finish speaking before you speak — interrupting is not common in Ni-Vanuatu culture. Use someone's title as a sign of respect. 5. Tipping is appreciated, not mandatory. In restaurants, 5–10% is standard for good service if not already included. For tour guides and drivers, 1,000–2,000 vatu per person per day is appropriate. Hotel housekeeping: 500–1,000 vatu per day. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You're planning Vanuatu in 2026 — it's the most underrated country in the South Pacific. · You want to freedive through a blue cave and mail a postcard from the world's only underwater post office. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. Why Fiji, and why NOW? Fiji just crossed a historic threshold. For the first time ever, annual visitor arrivals surpassed one million — hitting 1,003,233 in the 12 months to June 2026. June alone welcomed 98,522 visitors, the highest ever recorded for that month. Tourism now accounts for an estimated 40% of Fiji’s GDP, making every visitor arrival a national economic event. Australia remains the largest source market, but the United States surged 24.9% year-on-year, and the country is projected to break its all-time record again in 2026. But here's what the algorithm won't tell you: most visitors land in Nadi, transfer straight to a resort in Denarau or the Mamanucas, and never see the highland villages, the hidden Hindu shrines, or the $2 coconuts where Fiji actually breathes. This guide is built for the traveler who wants real value. Save it. You'll use it. 🚌 TRANSPORT: The $18 Bus That Beats Every Resort Transfer The mistake starts at Nadi International Airport. Resort transfers quote FJ18–24 and takes 4 hours. Buses are the cheapest way to move between major towns, and they run frequently on the main island of Viti Levu. The Yasawa Flyer rule. To reach the Yasawa Islands, the Yasawa Flyer catamaran departs from Port Denarau daily. A one-way adult ticket to a Mamanuca island runs FJ220. The Bula Pass hop-on hop-off formula lets you island-hop for 5 to 21 days — not including accommodation, but sometimes including land transfers. The ferry truth. For Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Lomaiviti group, mixed passenger-and-cargo ferries are the only way. Suva to Levuka (Ovalau) takes about 3.5 hours and costs FJ50 one-way. These boats are rustic — you'll share space with produce, fuel drums, and occasionally livestock — but they're the real Fiji. 🍲 FOOD: The $2 Coconut That Beats Every Restaurant Fijian food is not fancy. It's kokoda — raw fish cured in lime and coconut cream. It's lovo — meat and root vegetables slow-cooked in an earth oven. And it's fish and chips, Fiji style — fresh mahi-mahi in batter with cassava chips instead of potatoes. At the Nadi Market, grilled fish and coconut rice cost FJ2–5 — the vendor chops off the top with a machete, inserts a straw, and it's ready. The market rule. The best value in Fiji is at a municipal market. A plate of grilled fish with cassava runs FJ5–8. Fish and chips at a local shop — not a Denarau marina restaurant — runs FJ$12–20 for a solid plate. Look for the stall with the longest line of locals in work clothes. That's the one. Must-try, ranked: · Kokoda — raw fish in lime and coconut cream. The national ceviche. FJ$10–18 at a local eatery. · Lovo — earth-oven feast. The ceremonial meal. FJ$15–25 per plate. · Fish and chips, Fiji style — mahi-mahi with cassava chips. FJ$12–20. · Rourou — taro leaves in coconut milk. The everyday side. FJ$5–8. · Fresh coconut — FJ$2–5 from any street vendor. The ultimate hydration. The kava rule. Yaqona (kava) is Fiji's national drink — a mildly narcotic brew made from the powdered root of the pepper plant. It numbs your tongue and teeth. If you're offered a cup, accept it. In a village ceremony, clap once with cupped hands, say "Bula", drink the entire cup in one go, pass it back, and clap three times, saying "Vinaka" (thank you). 🗺️ HIDDEN FIJI: 3 Places Tourists Miss 1. Naag Baba Kuti (Near Nausori) — From the Nausori–Wainibokasi Highway, a quiet turn onto Vuci Road leads away from traffic and into another world. The road winds through thick bamboo groves before revealing one of Fiji's most secluded Hindu sacred sites — Naag Baba Kuti, established during the time of the Girmitiyas, indentured labourers who arrived from India in the 19th century. The complex includes shrines to multiple deities and a Wish Tree. It's not a tourist attraction. It's a living place of worship. Dress modestly. Remove your shoes. Keep your voice low. 2. Dakuinaroba Bamboo Park (Namosi) — Tucked away in the highlands of Namosi, with no cell phone or internet connection, this bamboo park invites visitors to truly disconnect. What was once a wild bamboo forest has been transformed into a breathtaking ecological escape. The Wainilutulevu and Naqara rivers meet here — one cool, one warm — creating a naturally restorative swimming spot. A local guide is compulsory, ensuring both safety and a deeper understanding of the park's cultural significance. Lookout points offer 180-degree views of Namosi's rocky mountains and valleys. 3. Talanoa Treks Highland Escape (Viti Levu) — Fiji's only dedicated hiking company runs an 11-kilometre trek between the remote villages of Naga and Nubutautau, following a narrow pig track and the life-giving Sigatoka River. You'll traverse grasslands, rainforest, and mud, cross rivers by rock-hopping, and hear tales of historic cannibalism. The night is spent in a village community centre, sleeping on the floor, eating a lovo feast, and drinking kava with your hosts. The two-night Highland Escape starts from FJ$1,450 per person, including guides, food, accommodation, and return transfers from Nadi or Suva. Hikes run from May to November. 💰 BUDGET REALITY CHECK Fiji is not cheap by Pacific standards — but it's manageable if you eat at markets and take public buses. · Budget traveler: 192) per day on average — hostel dorms, market food, public buses · Mid-range traveler: 453) per day — private rooms, restaurant meals, occasional taxis · Hostel dorm: 58) per night on average · Kokoda: FJ$10–18 · Fish and chips: FJ$12–20 · Fresh coconut: FJ$2–5 · Bus (Nadi–Suva): FJ$18–24 · Yasawa Flyer (one-way): FJ$140–220 Realistic daily budget: 100 with hostels, market food, and public buses. Mid-range travelers spend around $200 with private rooms and occasional restaurant meals. 🙏 ETIQUETTE: 5 Unspoken Rules That Matter Fiji runs on warmth, community, and the concept of vanua — the inseparable connection between land, people, and tradition. These aren't tourist rules — they're how the country works. 1. Offer a sevusevu when entering a village. If you visit a Fijian village, it's customary to present a small bundle of kava (yaqona) to the chief to seek permission to enter their communal lands and show appreciation for their hospitality. Follow your guide's instructions. Stoop low as you make your way to your allocated spot. 2. Dress modestly. Cover your bare shoulders and legs when visiting a village. Women often wear long skirts or dresses; men opt for T-shirts and knee-length shorts. Wrap a sulu (sarong) around your waist — it can be easily removed when you leave. Don't go topless on beaches outside tourist zones. Don't wear shorts in villages. 3. Remove your hat and sunglasses. As a sign of respect for the chief, remove your hat, sunglasses, and carry your bags in your hands — not on your shoulders — when walking around the village. 4. Never touch anyone's head. The head is considered sacred in Fijian culture. Touching someone's head is deeply disrespectful. Ask before taking photos or wandering into communal areas. 5. Don't visit villages on Sundays. Sundays are sacred. Most village tours don't run. If you're staying in a village homestay, reserve your best attire for the Sunday church service. Even if you're not Christian, the harmonious choir singing is always beautiful. 💾 SAVE THIS POST IF: · You're planning Fiji in 2026 — it just crossed one million annual visitors for the first time. · You want to eat kokoda for under $10 and see Naag Baba Kuti before the crowds find it. · You believe the best travel intel comes from real experience, not recycled top-10 lists. 📅 Itinerary Day 1: Rolled into Vanuatu in the evening and hopped on the airport bus straight to Pacific Lagoon Apartment (Elluk Rd, Port Vila, Vanuatu). The chill vibes here are unreal—seriously, the relaxation hits different! After dropping my bags, I grabbed a ride on a local bus to Delic, a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Port Vila. Super budget-friendly, major flavor overload, and exactly what I needed to kick off this adventure! Day 2: Unlocked a full day of island magic by scoring a private van for just Vt8000 (trust me, that's a deal you don’t want to miss!). Knocked off these insane spots on my must-do list: · Blue Lagoon (Eton, 20 mins from Port Vila, open daily 8am–5pm) – This natural swimming hole is next-level BEAUTY. The water? Crystal blue! And the swing jumps? Total adrenaline rush. · Mele Cascades (Mele Rd, Port Vila, open 8am–5pm) – These waterfalls are peak Instagram goals! Hike through lush trails to find epic pools where you can actually swim. Jungle vibes: locked. · Underwater Post Office (Hideaway Island, boat access only, open 8:30am–4:30pm) – Y’all, I mailed a legit postcard UNDER WATER. Only in Vanuatu! 🐠📮 Day 3: Strolled through Port Vila Central Market (Lini Hwy, open daily 7am–6pm) to grab the freshest local vibes ever. Fruit, snacks, and endless souvenirs—all from friendly locals. Closed out the trip back at Pacific Lagoon Apartment, soaking up luxe lagoon energy. The place is a total win: spacious rooms, easy beach access, and cute local shops all around. Stay goals for real! 🍴 Foodie Finds: Coconut Crab is a must—like, put this on your foodie bucket list ASAP. We hit up a local eatery and scored it for only Vt12000—the best price in town and the flavor? Absolutely wild. Drool status! 😋 Pro tip: Hunt around Port Vila, compare prices, and savor every bite. Bonus: Local peeps are so welcoming and helpful. Plus, heaps of Chinese restaurants around if you're craving some comfort food! 📌 Pro Tips: · Don’t waste $$$ on pre-booked tours—sort your own ride with public buses or snag a private van. Super easy and way more fun. · Costs are higher than you’d think, so keep an eye on your budget for food and activities. This island adventure was insane—turquoise waters, wild fun, and eats you’ll be dreaming about forever. Already planning my comeback trip! 🌴🤩

This was our third visit to Iririki Resort, and once again, it did not disappoint. The staff remain as kind, courteous, and helpful as ever. The location is absolutely perfect, with a reef on its doorstep, a short boat ride to the town center, and plenty of tours available from the island. Vanuatu is such a beautiful country with incredibly friendly people, and we’ve never had a bad experience here. The duty-free shopping is the cheapest we’ve come across anywhere. Despite the challenges of a cyclone and a devastating earthquake in recent years, the recovery efforts are clearly visible. We truly commend the resilience of both the people of Vanuatu and the resort management for how quickly and effectively they’ve bounced back. Of course, recovering in such a tropical, sea-bounded location must not have been an easy task. You can still see ongoing repairs and rebuilds in some resort accommodations and parts of the town. However, new accommodations are also being added, and we eagerly anticipate returning for our fourth visit in the years to come.

Vanuatu is an island nation in the South Pacific with unique highlights, offering everything from tropical beaches and active volcanoes to lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and rich Melanesian culture—all in one incredible destination. 🇻🇺🌴 🌋 1. Mount Yasur — An Active Volcano One of Vanuatu's most iconic landmarks. Mount Yasur on Tanna Island is world-renowned for offering a close-up view of volcanic activity within safe, designated zones. At dusk, the glow of molten lava and rhythmic eruptions create a breathtaking spectacle. 🌋🔥 🏝️ 2. Port Vila — The Coastal Capital The capital city on Efate Island serves as the travel hub, featuring a mix of resorts, local restaurants, markets, and beautiful coastlines. Top things to do: · 🌊 Hit the beach · 🚤 Take a boat trip · 🤿 Go diving · 🛍️ Explore the markets · 🌅 Catch a sunset 💙 3. Blue Lagoon One of the most photogenic natural spots in the country. The lagoon’s crystal-clear turquoise waters are framed by lush tropical greenery, making it the perfect spot for swimming and unwinding. 🏝️ 💦 4. Mele Cascades These famous waterfalls near Port Vila feature tiered natural pools nestled within a verdant rainforest. It’s an ideal spot for hiking, photography, and refreshing dips. 🌿 With the sea, waterfalls, and forest all located nearby, it’s a convenient stop for travelers with limited time. 🤿 5. Diving the SS President Coolidge Wreck Vanuatu boasts world-renowned diving sites. One of the top highlights is the SS President Coolidge, a passenger liner that became an underwater wreck after sinking during World War II. Today, it is a famous dive site where explorers can see the ship's remains and the thriving marine life around it. ⚓🐠

A wonderful museum featuring an impressive array of paintings and sculptures from the Pacific Islands, Bali, and Southeast Asia. It also includes a hall filled with Pacific artifacts from the renowned Michoutouchkine & Pilioko collection from Vanuatu. To top it off, there are even some original works by Paul Gauguin.

Vanuatu is an archipelago nation nestled in the South Pacific Ocean. It stands out as one of the most naturally diverse countries in the region, where a single journey can take you from active volcanoes and lush rainforests to crystal-clear waters and vibrant Melanesian traditions. The country is comprised of numerous islands scattered across the Pacific, each offering a unique landscape and atmosphere—ranging from tropical coastlines to rugged mountainous terrains and volcanic peaks. 🌴🌊 One of Vanuatu’s most iconic sights is Mount Yasur on Tanna Island. As an active volcano, it is one of the nation's most famous natural attractions. 🌋 The volcanic landscape here is a stark contrast to typical tropical beaches, featuring black earth, volcanic rock, and ash. At the right time, you can even witness the fiery orange glow of lava churning within the crater. Standing near such a powerful force of nature is what makes Tanna an experience unlike any other typical tourist island. However, if you prefer crystal-clear waters over volcanic fire, Espiritu Santo is another must-visit. It is particularly famous for its "Blue Holes"—natural, deep-blue swimming holes tucked away in the middle of tropical jungles. 💙🌿 The water in some Blue Holes is so clear that you can see straight to the bottom, with the deep sapphire hue creating a stunning contrast against the surrounding emerald greens. Espiritu Santo is also renowned for its beaches, especially Champagne Beach, which boasts powdery white sand, turquoise waters, and rainforests that meet the shoreline. 🏝️ What makes Vanuatu truly special is that many of its beaches remain relatively pristine and natural, avoiding the overdevelopment seen on larger Pacific tourist islands. Vanuatu also holds significant World War II history, particularly on Espiritu Santo, which served as a major Allied base in the Pacific. Remnants and artifacts from the war era still remain around the island, some of which have become world-class dive sites for history enthusiasts. The underwater world of Vanuatu is just as captivating as the land. It features vibrant coral reefs, tropical fish, and numerous dive spots, including shipwrecks that draw divers from all over the globe. 🤿🐠 Vanuatu’s culture is rooted in Melanesian traditions, with each island maintaining its own distinct customs, languages, and ways of life. One of the most famous traditions is "Land Diving" (Nagol) on Pentecost Island. In this ritual, men leap from tall wooden towers with vines tied to their ankles—a traditional ceremony that served as the original inspiration for modern bungee jumping. Port Vila on Efate Island serves as the capital and the country's main hub. It offers a blend of markets, restaurants, seaside communities, and various attractions around the island. Efate also features a ring road that allows visitors to explore the coastline, rainforests, and local villages, making it perfect for a trip that balances nature and culture. Status of Vanuatu has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The period from July to October is generally drier, making it the ideal time for beach trips and outdoor activities. From November to April, the weather becomes hot and humid with increased rainfall, and there is a possibility of tropical cyclones during this time. If you want to see lush greenery and flowing waterfalls, the rainy season has its perks, as the rainforests become exceptionally vibrant and hydrated. 🌧️🌿 The allure of Vanuatu lies in its internal diversity—from the rumbling peaks of Tanna to the serene Blue Holes and white sands of Espiritu Santo. The deep-rooted island cultures ensure that a trip here isn't just about relaxing by the sea, but also about learning from traditions that still play a vital role in local society. However, traveling between islands requires some planning. Domestic flight schedules can be limited on certain routes, and weather conditions can occasionally impact travel plans. If you plan to visit Mount Yasur or remote natural areas, always check the volcanic activity status, weather forecasts, routes, and the latest safety advisories before heading out. Vanuatu is the perfect destination for those seeking an extraordinary Pacific experience. 🇻🇺🌋🌊 It isn't just about clear seas and beautiful beaches; it’s a land of active volcanoes, rainforests, Blue Holes, coral reefs, war history, and a unique Melanesian culture. From the thunderous roar of the volcano on Tanna to the tranquil blue waters in the jungles of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu is a country where diverse natural wonders coexist in breathtaking harmony. If you’re looking to explore the Pacific map and find a destination that is beautiful, exotic, and offers more than just a standard beach holiday, Vanuatu is a place you should definitely pin for your next adventure. 🇻🇺🏝️🌋

#easytravelpost Mount Tabe (~400 m) rises behind the Small Nambas (Netwar) territory in south-central Malekula; the mossy forest trail runs from Unmet village (permission village) through Agathis–Terminalia forest where the Netwar still run grade-taking rituals — Papillaria on the Agathis 1 cm, Campylopus on the coral-limestone 1 cm, Sphagnum in the Unmet spring 2 cm, 23°C in Jul, the Vanuatu megapode, the Maskelyne Islands south. Custom permission + guide mandatory (2,000 VT village fee + 3,000 VT guide/day, Unmet), Santo→Lakatoro ferry 3,000 VT then PMV Lakatoro→Unmet 500 VT, or charter 4WD 4,000 VT. I flew Port Vila→Santo, ferry to Lakatoro, PMV to Unmet 07:00, paid 2,000 VT + 3,000 VT guide, walked Tabe south spur (3 hrs). The moss on the nakamal (custom meeting house) post was black-green with fern-drip, ate a 300 VT lap-lap+coconut, watched the 08:00 mist lift off the Small Nambas lowland — custom slits-gong sounded once, no tourists but us. Mistake: I wore shorts in Aug — lawyer-cane (Calamus) scratched to the knee, and the Netwar ask you to cover knees at the nakamal; long trousers, the mossy forest is lawyer-cane thick below 300 m. Another: VT cash only, Lakatoro has a single store-ATM that eats foreign cards. Would you ferry 3,000 VT + 5,000 VT total for the Malekula Unmet→Tabe Small Nambas mossy forest+custom walk, or skip Tabe and do the Big Nambas Vao–Vatlik instead?

#easytravelpost Ambae (formerly Aoba) is the 1,496 m shield volcano with three nested craters — Lake Vui (active, sulfur), Lake Manaro Ngoru (green, sacred), and Lake Manaro Lakua — linked by a mossy saddle forest on the western rim. No entry fee but Geohazards Vanuatu alert check mandatory (Manaro jumped to Alert 4 in 2017, evacuations), Luganville→Ambae ferry 2,000 VT (5 hrs) or Unity Airlines 3,500 VT, village guide 3,000 VT/day via Longana. May–Oct safe window; Nov–Apr no-go if alert ≥3. I ferried Luganville→Ambae, stayed in Longana (2,000 VT homestay), guide 07:00 (3,000 VT), walked the western rim to the Manaro Ngoru overlook. The moss is the Ambae crater-rim forest: Thuidium on the Syzygium 1 cm, Sphagnum on the saddle bog 3 cm, 11°C in June, a Vanuatu megapode, the green lake steaming faintly below. I reached the Ngoru lookout 10:30, moss on the taboo sign black-green, ate a 200 VT market laplap, watched cloud peel off Lake Vui's red surface. Mistake: I planned a 2017-style trip in Nov — alert hit 4, ferry cancelled, stuck in Santo; build 3 buffer days, check Geohazards SMS before boarding. Another: no card on Ambae, VT cash from Luganville only. Would you ferry 2,000 + guide 3,000 VT for the Ambae Manaro mossy triple-crater forest overlook (alert permitting), or skip Ambae and do the safer Tanna Yasur + Blue Hole loop instead?

#easytravelpost Tabwemasana (1,879 m) is Vanuatu's highest peak, on Santo's western spine, a 2-day ridge trek from the east-coast road near Loru. Luganville→trailhead 4×4 2.5 hrs (150 AUD/day hire), village guide + kastom fee 150–250 AUD/day (via Luganville operators, cash vatu), no park entry — land is custom-owned. May–Oct dry; Nov–Apr cyclone risk. I flew Port Vila→Santo, hired 4×4 in Luganville (150 AUD/day), slept at a Loru village guesthouse (20 AUD), started 06:40. The moss is the montane cloud forest at 1,200–1,879 m: Thuidium on the Agathis (native kauri) trunks 1 cm, Metzgeria on the tree-fern croziers 1 cm, 12°C in July, a Santo mountain starling, the Malekula haze to the south. I topped out 12:30, moss on the summit cairn silver with cloud, ate a packed 10 AUD Luganville baguette, watched the ridge drop 1,800 m to the west coast. Mistake: I wore trail runners — the ridge has 4 rope-assisted sections, mossed rock soap-slick, slid on the descent; boots + light gloves. Another: kastom fee is per-village (3 villages crossed) — pay at Luganville as a bundle, don't negotiate at each hut. Still can’t quite believe I actually did this! 😅 Just got back from the ultimate South Pacific combo – Fiji and Vanuatu. Yes, I used up basically all my annual leave, and yes, my bank account is crying, but it was worth every single penny! Working in aviation means I’m constantly staring at flight boards dreaming of escaping, so I finally just booked it. Fiji was pure bliss. 🌊 Total 'flop and drop' vibes, crystal clear water, and me pretending I don’t have to go back to early shifts. Just gorgeous. But the absolute highlight? Vanuatu. 🌋 We went to Tanna Island to see Mount Yasur, which is a proper, live volcano. Standing on the rim watching actual orange lava explode into the night sky was absolutely mental. Pro tip: do not wear your favourite white trainers like I did. They are now permanently ash-grey. 💀 We also visited a local custom village which was fascinating (the history geek in me was thriving 🛖). Half lazy beach holiday, half wild adventure. Best of both worlds. Now, back to reality and the London rain... ✈️✨

Here is the list I've compiled of countries that have signed mutual visa-free agreements for ordinary passports with China in 2026 (reciprocal visa-free entry). This is different from unilateral visa-free entry for Chinese citizens (like Jeju Island, South Korea, or Turkey). The difference is that mutual visa-free agreements are more stable and apply to both sides, whereas unilateral visa-free policies can be adjusted by the other country at any time. If you're planning to travel abroad this year, feel free to save this post👇 🌏 Asia (11 countries): UAE 30 days, Qatar 30 days, Malaysia 30 days, Thailand 30 days, Singapore 30 days, Georgia 30 days, Armenia 90 days, Azerbaijan 30 days, Uzbekistan 10 days, Kazakhstan 30 days, Maldives 30 days 🌍 Europe (6 countries): Serbia 30 days, Belarus 30 days, Bosnia and Herzegovina 30 days, Albania 90 days, San Marino 90 days (must enter via Italy), Russia 30 days (temporary visa-free until Sep 14, 2026) 🌍 Africa (4 countries): Mauritius 90 days, Seychelles 30 days, Morocco 90 days, Tunisia 90 days 🌎 Americas (7 countries): Bahamas 90 days, Barbados 30 days, Suriname 30 days, Dominica 30 days, Grenada 30 days, Antigua and Barbuda 30 days, British Virgin Islands 180 days 🌏 Oceania (5 countries): Fiji 120 days, Tonga 30 days, Samoa 60 days, Solomon Islands 30 days, Vanuatu 120 days ✈️ Travel tips before you go: ✅ Passport validity ≥ 6 months ✅ Have your return flight ticket + hotel booking ready (border control may conduct random checks) ✅ Some mutual visa-free countries still require filling out an electronic arrival card in advance (e.g., Thailand TDAC, Singapore SGAC), but these are free. After retirement, I gave myself a long vacation. First, we flew to Sydney, Australia. Study there – a daily walk around the opera house’s waterfront. Stroll around the old market in the Rocks, the city is lively. But in my heart I always miss farther. After the study tour, I was alone, a backpack, From Sydney to Vanuatu deep in the South Pacific. No companions, no detailed plans. There is only a heart that wants to see it. Stayed in Tana for a few days, not in a hurry. Eat a slow breakfast in the morning. Then join a local day tour and follow the car around. This kind of freedom and comfort, It was only after busy for most of my life that I really knew how to enjoy the luxury. Today I chartered a car to see the legendary giant banyan tree - the mother of all things. The vast scale of the "World's Most": Recognized as one of the largest banyan trees in the world. The tree is said to be between 300 and 800 years old. The data shows that its canopy is about 200-300 meters in diameter. The tree is 80 meters high and looks like a green castle. The miracle of life of "a single tree becomes a forest": It grows through hundreds upon thousands of drooping "aerial roots." grow into new "pillar roots" after touching the earth. Constantly expanding and still growing today, Known as the "walking big banyan tree" by the villagers. The local guide took me into the wonder of that single-wood forest. to walk through it, to cover the sky and the sun, The light is sifted into fine spots of light. It was like walking into the abode of some ancient deity. The tour guide tells the stories of his ancestors while walking. Talking talking, suddenly the interest came, Pulling on a thick vine-like branch, With one kick of one's feet, the whole person swings from one end to the other. He smiled and swayed in the air, like a naughty child, Then he swings back and continues to tell his story. At that moment, There was suddenly a bit of vivid smoke in this sacred grove. He said his grandfather still guards the sacred tree now. The tribal prayers, the children’s frolics, the chief’s rulings, have all happened under the shade of this tree. When the typhoon hit, the whole village hid in his arms. They still believe that. If you walk around the big banyan tree, you can live five more years. I walked slowly around—with extra piety. Standing in front of this banyan tree that has lived for hundreds of years, Suddenly I realized that people live a lifetime, busy and busy, In the end it's just like imagining this tree: The roots are deeply rooted and the shade is wide enough. Quietly witness the flow of time. Vanuatu—whether it’s the swing under the Mother of All Things, the flames of Izul crater, the primitive dance steps in the naked village, the briskness of horses’ hooves on the lagoon, and that postcard sent from the underwater post office, every frame becomes the most vivid footnote of retirement. ‼ ️Tips: Charter half day: 900 RMB 🏡Accommodation: Tanner Island Evergreen Resort and Travel Agency

I spent three days on Tanna Island in Vanuatu. I should mention right off the bat that there’s almost no mobile reception or internet here, which made it the perfect place to completely unplug from my studies. Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of my quick getaway: Day 1: I arrived in the morning and checked in. The ocean view is stunning, and I could watch the sunset right from my terrace. With no internet to distract me, I headed out to find lunch and stumbled upon a small, family-run cafe near the coast. I had fresh charcoal-grilled fish served with a side of local cassava. It was simple yet delicious. Day 2: I woke up early to catch the sunrise before heading straight to the local market—my go-to spot in any new place. I picked up some ripe papaya and tried "laplap" (a traditional dish made from grated root vegetables and coconut milk baked in leaves). It has a unique flavor, but it was definitely worth trying. I spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the beach. Day 3: I spent the day lounging by the water and strolling along the shore. For dinner, I went back to that same roadside spot and tried the stewed bananas in coconut sauce. Overall, the island is incredibly peaceful, and the food is fresh and simple. I’d definitely come back for the tranquility and the local flavors.
