Shokanso, the base for climbing Mt. Shokanbetsu
It's a very impressive unmanned mountain hut. It seems to be open even in winter.
A mountain hut at the foot of Mt. Shokanbetsu in Mashike-cho, Hokkaido. There is also a campsite, so you can use either the hut or the campsite for free. There is also a water source, so it's comfortable, but there are a lot of bugs in the area, so insect repellent is a must.

Auber Rouge Mashike
Auber Rouge is a restaurant with hot springs and accommodation facilities. It is supervised by Kiyomi Mikuni, one of Japan's leading French chefs, who was born in the town and was awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
This time I was there just to check in, so I wasn't able to enjoy the food, but I'd love to try it next time.

[Hokkaido] The Ultimate Drive Route for Sunsets and Seafood Bowls Along the Ororon Line.
Heading to the "Ororon Line" along the Sea of Japan coast in Hokkaido 🚗✨
While driving through the Rumoi, Obira, and Mashike areas,
I explored a local route where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets, delicious seafood bowls, and a historic sake brewery.
It’s a local trip, but the scenery and food exceeded all expectations. Here’s a roundup of the spots!
📍 Ogonmisaki Seaside Park / Golden Cape, Rumoi
A spot where the sunset over the Sea of Japan is absolutely stunning.
Watching the sunset through the round monument is super photogenic—it’s worth the visit just for the photos.
I highly recommend timing your visit for the late afternoon.
📍 Shokujidokoro Sumire / Sumire Seafood Bowl
A popular seafood bowl restaurant in Obira Town.
Their luxurious bowls loaded with sweet shrimp, salmon roe, salmon, and tuna are perfect for anyone craving an authentic Hokkaido meal.
It gets quite busy during lunchtime, so it's best to allow plenty of extra time.
📍 Kunimare Sake Brewery / Kunimare Sake Brewery
A historic sake brewery located in Mashike Town.
They have a fantastic tasting corner 🍶
The retro building has a great vibe. Highly recommended not just for sake lovers, but also for anyone wanting to experience Hokkaido's local culture.
If you plan to buy sake, make sure to bring a designated driver for a safe trip.
✔️ Why I recommend this route:
・ Easy to do as a day trip from Sapporo
・ Combines a gorgeous sunset, amazing seafood, and a sake brewery
・ Perfect for a non-touristy, authentic local Hokkaido experience
・ Great for photography enthusiasts, sunset chasers, and seafood lovers

Enjoy Local Sake and Fresh Seafood in Mashike
Mashike, a port town along the Sea of Japan in Hokkaido, offers a unique experience of savoring local sake and fresh seafood.
At Kunimare Brewery, a long-established sake brewery dating back to the Meiji era, you can explore the tradition of sake-making that utilizes Hokkaido's natural blessings. The historic building provides a charming setting to learn about sake culture, enjoy tastings, and pick up souvenirs.
Another must-try in Mashike is the seafood bowl brimming with freshly caught seafood from the Sea of Japan. This luxurious dish, unique to port towns, is one of the highlights of your trip.
Relish the gourmet experience of historic sake breweries and seasonal seafood in Mashike at your leisure. 🍶🐟✨

Hokkaido🇯🇵 Historic town, the northernmost sake brewery in Japan🍶
The northernmost sake brewery in Japan in the historical town‼ ️
The filming location of the movie starring Ken Takakura, the century-old building, the limited sake tasting area, a lot of Japanese sake souvenirs, and the brewery can drink the underground water. There are also many tourists at the brewery. It is recommended to friends who like sake. It is worth a trip here‼ ️

🇯🇵 Hokkaido Hidden Gem: Mashike
#cherryblossom25
Cherry Blossoms, Sake, and Seafood Ramen — what a perfect combo!
Surprisingly, one of my most beautiful sakura photos was taken not in a tourist hotspot, but in this quiet little village called Mashike—a name that even sounds a bit funny! 😆
🚗 Getting There (by Car):
From Higashikawa Town: ~2 hours
From Asahikawa: ~1.5 hours
Destination: Mashike Station (增毛站)
Address: 北海道增毛郡增毛町弁天町1丁目1 (Mashike Town, Benten-cho 1 Chome 1)
🌸 Why Visit Mashike?
Sakura-lined roads in spring with hardly any crowds
Local sake (Mashike is known for good breweries 🍶)
Fresh seafood ramen by the coast — absolutely delicious
Very few foreign tourists = peaceful, authentic Hokkaido vibes
Perfect for: Road trippers in Northern Hokkaido looking for hidden cherry blossom spots, food, and sake — all without the crowds 🍜🌸🍶
