During our two-day excursion to the Sahara, we stopped in Matmata, a region famous for its traditional underground Berber dwellings. From the outside, you might not even notice such a place. The houses were dug directly into the ground: first a large courtyard, and then rooms, kitchens, storage rooms, and living quarters built around it. The earth maintains a more comfortable temperature inside, even in extreme heat. We visited one of these houses. Inside, everything is very simple: low white walls, carpets, sofas, dishes, and old household items. There's no museum gloss—it feels more like visiting someone's home. Now many of these dwellings are shown to tourists, but in Matmata, you can still see what traditional life was like for the locals. And yes, it's the local landscapes and unusual architecture that have made this area famous among Star Wars fans—some scenes were filmed in Matmata. I like these stops even more than the standard sights. Because here you see not just a beautiful place, but a completely different way of life. 📍 Matmata, Tunisia #Tunisia #Matmata #Matmata #Tunisia #Berber #Sahara #TripMoments

There’s a new kind of traveler in 2026 — and honestly, I’m one of them. We don’t just pick destinations because they’re beautiful. We pick them because we’ve *seen* them. On screen. In the shows that kept us up until 3am, in the films that made us cry, in the series that rewired our entire sense of what the world looks like. The trend is called **Set-Jetting** — and it’s officially the biggest travel movement of the year. 🌍 Forget generic tourist guides. Here are the filming locations that belong on your travel list right now — and what it actually feels like to stand inside the worlds you’ve loved. 🎥 · ---- ## 🏰 Dubrovnik, Croatia — The Real King’s Landing If you’ve ever watched Game of Thrones, you already know this city. You just didn’t know you could visit it. · *Dubrovnik** is King’s Landing made real — marble streets, ancient fortress walls, and an Adriatic coastline so impossibly beautiful it still feels like a film set when you’re standing in it. Walk the famous **Jesuit Staircase** where Cersei’s iconic scene was filmed. Stand inside **Fort Lovrijenac** — the Red Keep — perched above turquoise waters with kayakers gliding past below. And now, in 2026, the city has a second wave of hype: Netflix’s **Outer Banks Season 5** — its final season — filmed extensively here, in Cavtat, and on Lokrum Island, bringing an entirely new generation of fans to these streets. 📺 The city knows it’s iconic — and manages crowds carefully, with a daily visitor limit to keep the magic intact. > **Tip:** Stay in **Cavtat**, the quieter coastal town nearby, and take a short boat to Dubrovnik. You’ll experience the city without the peak crowds — and arrive by sea, which is honestly the most cinematic entrance possible. ⛵ · ---- ## 🌸 Sicily & Rome, Italy — The White Lotus Effect If one show defined travel conversation in 2026, it’s **The White Lotus**. The show’s stunning Italian locations — **Sicily’s Taormina**, the volcanic drama of the Aeolian Islands, and the 2026 season’s expanded filming in **Rome** at Hotel Eden and Palazzo Fendi and **Venice** along the Grand Canal — have created a full-blown pilgrimage of travelers chasing that particular shade of Mediterranean luxury. 🍋 And honestly? The real thing is better than the screen. Wander Taormina’s clifftop streets above the sea. Take a boat to Stromboli and watch the volcano glow at night. Float down Venice’s canals as golden light bounces off ancient palazzos. The show gave you the preview — now live the actual experience. > **Tip:** Visit Sicily in June before peak summer — the light is perfect, the temperatures are ideal, and you’ll feel like you have the island to yourself. ☀️ · ---- ## 🏛️ Budapest, Hungary — Hollywood’s Best-Kept Secret Most travelers don’t realize that dozens of their favorite films were shot here. · *Budapest** has been called the *“Hollywood of Europe”* for a reason — its mix of medieval architecture, 19th-century imperial grandeur, and dramatic riverfront made it the perfect stand-in for Paris, Berlin, Moscow, and beyond. **Gellért Hill** gave spy thrillers their aerial cityscape. **Buda Castle** starred in historical epics. And **Fisherman’s Bastion** — one of the most fairy-tale structures in Europe — appeared in *Dracula Untold* and looks even more magical in person. 🎭 What makes Budapest special for set-jetters is the depth — you’re not just chasing one show. You’re walking through a city that’s been the backdrop for cinema for decades, and still feels genuinely undiscovered by mass tourism. > **Tip:** The **Danube River cruise at night** is unmissable — the illuminated Parliament Building from the water is one of Europe’s great visual experiences. 🌉 · ---- ## 🏺 Peloponnese, Greece — Where The Odyssey Was Born This is the 2026 wildcard — and it’s already generating serious buzz. With Christopher Nolan’s **The Odyssey** releasing in July 2026 (starring Matt Damon and Zendaya), the **Peloponnese region** of Greece is experiencing what travel insiders are calling a “Mythic Tourism” surge. Filming locations include **Methoni Castle** — a breathtaking 13th-century Venetian fortress used as Odysseus’s return to Ithaca — and the horseshoe-shaped **Voidokilia Beach**, one of the most beautiful coves in Greece, filmed for scenes involving the Cyclops. 🌊 This is one to move on *before* the film drops and the world catches up. > **Tip:** The Peloponnese is still relatively uncrowded compared to the Greek islands. Pair it with a few days in Athens — the archaeological depth here is extraordinary. 🏺 · ---- ## ⭐ Star Wars Universe — A Galaxy Closer Than You Think The Force brought us to some of the most stunning real-world landscapes on Earth. · *Matmata, Tunisia** — Luke Skywalker’s desert home on Tatooine — is a real Berber village carved into the earth, and still as otherworldly as ever. **Lake Como, Italy**, gave us Naboo’s secret wedding scenes in *Episode II*. And the **Plaza de España in Seville, Spain** — one of Europe’s grandest public spaces — became the cityscapes of Naboo in the prequels. 🌟 The magic of Star Wars set-jetting is realizing how many of these “alien worlds” are places you can actually reach by budget flight — and how stunning they are entirely on their own terms, beyond the franchise. > **Tip:** Use **IMDb’s Filming Locations tab** for any show or film — it’s the most accurate database for tracking down exact spots. 🎞️ · ---- ## ✈️ How to Plan Your Set-Jetting Trip · **Research first:** Atlas of Wonders and IMDb Filming Locations are your best tools · **Book tours early:** Dedicated Game of Thrones and filming tours in Dubrovnik sell out months ahead in summer · **Layer it:** The best set-jetting trips combine filming locations with genuine local culture — the real city is always richer than the screen version · **Timing matters:** Avoid peak August for Dubrovnik and Sicily — June and September offer the same beauty with a fraction of the crowds · **Find your show:** Every major streaming platform has left its footprint somewhere in the world — search your favorites and you’ll be surprised how close some locations are 🗺️ · ---- ## 🎬 Final Thought The world’s greatest stories were filmed in the world’s greatest places — and in 2026, more travelers than ever are making the connection. Set-jetting isn’t just a trend. It’s a completely different way of seeing the world — through the lens of stories you already love, in places that turn out to be even more extraordinary in person. Your next destination is already on your watchlist. You just haven’t booked it yet. 🙏 · Which filming location is at the top of your list? Drop it in the comments! 👇* · ---- · Ready to explore? #uniquehomestay ✨ Overall Experience (otherworldly, like living underground) This is the place where parts of Star Wars were filmed… and yes, it actually looks like another planet 🌕 Homes here are built underground, carved into the earth to stay cool in the desert heat. From outside, you barely see anything — but inside, it opens into a beautiful cave courtyard. My host family welcomed me with mint tea (non-stop refills 😆) and traditional couscous. What I loved: · Sleeping in a naturally cool cave 🛏️ · Exploring hidden underground rooms · Learning Berber traditions from locals ⸻ 💸 Cost Breakdown · 🛏️ Homestay: $15–35/night (≈ 500–1,200 THB) · 🍲 Meals: often included or ~$5 · 🚗 Day transport: ~$20–50 depending route 👉 Super affordable for something this unique ⸻ 🚗 How to Get There ✈️ Step 1: Fly to Tunis or Djerba 🚙 Step 2: Travel to Matmata · From Djerba: ~2–3 hours by taxi/shared car · From Tunis: ~7–8 hours (train + car combo) 🏜️ Final stretch Desert landscapes, very quiet roads — feels like you’re going nowhere… until suddenly you arrive ⸻ 🏡 What Makes It Special · 🕳️ Underground cave architecture · 🌡️ Naturally temperature-controlled rooms · 🎬 Real film location vibes · 🧕 Strong local culture still preserved ⸻ 🤍 My Honest Thoughts It’s simple, slightly dusty, and very different from anything you’ve stayed in before. But that’s exactly why it’s worth it.

Hey everyone! As a true Roman and a total history buff (occupational hazard of being a teacher, I guess!), I've always had a soft spot for North Africa. I recently took a six-day trip to Tunisia and, what can I say... I was absolutely blown away. It's so close to home, yet the vibe is just beautifully different. Naturally, I had to kick things off with the ruins. Carthage is fascinating, but guys, Dougga and the amphitheater of El Jem will literally take your breath away! Seeing the colossus of El Jem—which looks so much like our Colosseum but set in a totally different landscape—was an unbelievable thrill. Wandering through those ancient stones almost entirely alone is a luxury we can only dream of back in Rome nowadays. But the best part of my travels is always getting lost in the day-to-day life. After checking out the archaeological sites, I'd head straight for the local markets and medinas, like the ones in Kairouan or Sousse. What an absolute feast of colors and scents! I stopped so many times at little roadside eateries to chow down on some mouthwatering couscous and brik, spending next to nothing while chatting with the locals, whose kindness is simply heartwarming. Here are a few practical tips from a friend for your trip: · Always carry cash (dinars or euros). In the markets and tiny street food joints, credit cards are practically unheard of. · The sun beats down hard, especially midday. Keep a hat on, slather on the sunscreen, and always have plenty of water on hand! · For power outlets, they use the two-pin European style. It's pretty convenient for us Italians, but tossing a universal adapter in your suitcase never hurts. Have you ever been, or are you planning a trip? If you have any questions about the itinerary or are just curious, drop a comment below—I always love a good chat! Catch you later!

As a massive film buff, Tunisia has been high on my bucket list for a while, purely because of the legendary Star Wars filming locations down south. Last month, I took a week off from my office job in Utrecht and booked a flight to Tunis. No organized group tours for me—just exploring on my own terms. Here’s my no-nonsense report on 6 days of culture, scorching heat, and cinematic history, complete with exact details and costs. · *Day 1 & 2: Carthage & Sidi Bou Said** From the airport, I hopped on the TGM train to the ruins of Carthage (a train ticket costs next to nothing, about 1.50 TND). The archaeological site is incredibly sprawling. By late afternoon, my pedometer hit 21,300 steps in the blazing sun (it was 38 degrees). After that, I headed to Sidi Bou Said. Sure, those iconic blue-and-white houses are extremely photogenic, but the prices reflect that. I paid 8 TND for a pine nut mint tea at a famous café with a view. Gorgeous, but definitely a tourist price. · *Day 3 & 4: Chott el Djerid & Tozeur** We ventured further south. The Chott el Djerid salt lake is absolutely surreal. It’s an endless, arid expanse that looks like an icy wasteland, yet it's baking hot. Make sure to pack some quality sunglasses; the glare from the salt is blinding. We crashed at a modest hotel in Tozeur for around €35 a night. Thankfully, dinner here was a steal: a local stuffed pastry (brik), some couscous, and a large bottle of water set me back less than 12 TND. · *Day 5: Matmata & El Jem** In Matmata, I checked out the troglodyte homes (underground cave dwellings). As a film geek, this was the absolute highlight of the trip: it’s the actual set for Luke Skywalker's childhood home on the planet Tatooine. It felt totally surreal to actually walk around there. Afterwards, we drove to the amphitheater of El Jem. Entrance fee: 12 TND (plus an extra 1 TND if you want to use a camera). This structure is almost as awe-inspiring as the Colosseum in Rome, just without the massive queues. I climbed all the way up to the top tier (another 140 steps in the heat), and the view overlooking the city was fantastic. · *Day 6: Sousse & the Journey Home** We spent our final day wandering through the medina of Sousse to pick up a few souvenirs and strolling along the harbor before heading back to the airport. · *Handy Practical Tips:** · **Money:** You can exchange Euros for Tunisian Dinars (TND) locally. Just do it at the airport; the exchange rates are government-regulated and practically the same everywhere. Keep your receipt, as you are not allowed to take Dinars back out of the country. · **SIM Card:** Grab a prepaid SIM card from Ooredoo or Orange right when you land. For roughly 25 TND (around €7.50), you'll get 25 GB of data. It’s ideal for navigation. · **Plugs:** They use Type C and E power outlets here. My Dutch charger fit perfectly everywhere without an adapter, but bringing a power bank is essential since the heat drains your phone battery much faster. Tunisia was a delightful surprise. It gets intensely hot in the summer, but if you can handle the heat and have a passion for history and film, it’s a fantastic, surprisingly affordable destination.

Matt Mata (Matmata, Arabic)

I arrived at a magical destination while traveling in Tunisia.

Mattema, also the location of the movie "Star Wars", is the location of the alien disco scene in the "First Star Wars" film. It is said that when George Lucas was shooting this Star Wars, he stayed in Matema for two months, and together with his entire shooting team ~ at the shooting location, you can still see a lot of Star Wars's record ~ Matema, is a small village in southern Tunisia, populated by Berbers, and some local Berber residents still live in traditional underground cave dwellings. The typical structure of a burrow is to first dig a very large pit from the ground, and then manually dig the artificial cave from the side of the pit as a room, and there will be connecting passages between some rooms.

When the off-road vehicle turns over one sand dune again! After the person who was shaken in the car turned up and felt particularly energetic, our team stopped on a large sand dune, and the shooting of the Star Wars was in front of us! House Mjiamai! finally reached! Here is the pilgrimage site for the global Star Wars fans! George Lucas's "Star Wars Prequel" has now become a hot spot. In the desert of the desert, when you see the "extraordinary castle" in the shape of a circular arc in the white sand, there will be a sense of time and space. Put on a wizard's cloak or robes here, you can really cross the movie scene in the ruins. Of course, if you wear the sunglasses and masks with the perfect force, like Kidd, then There is a sense of scene~
