Mayo travel guide and discussion

It's hard for photos to fully capture the beauty of Ireland. What moved me wasn’t the deliberately crafted landscapes, but a castle that suddenly appeared at the end of a coastal road, the sea breeze at the cliff’s edge that almost knocks you off your feet, and the deep blue Atlantic under the overcast sky. This place feels like the edge of Europe, and also like the beginning of a story. If I had to pick the few places in Ireland that I can’t stop thinking about, they would be: 📍 Classiebawn Castle The most beautiful castle in Ireland in my heart. It stands alone on a seaside meadow, with Ben Bulben mountain behind it and the wild Atlantic Ocean in front. When the weather is good, it looks like a fairy tale; on cloudy days, it feels like the North in Game of Thrones. The most magical thing is, you don’t even need to enter the castle. Just standing by the coastal road from afar, watching the castle, mountains, and ocean all in one frame is already breathtaking. 📍 Giant's Causeway Hexagonal basalt columns stretch into the sea like giant footprints. Standing in the sea breeze, it’s easy to believe those ancient legends are true. 📍 The Dark Hedges (Kingsroad) The Kingsroad from Game of Thrones. The branches intertwine overhead forming an archway, especially on cloudy days, giving a strong illusion of stepping back into the Middle Ages. 📍 Cliffs of Moher One of Europe’s most stunning coastlines. The 214-meter-high cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic Ocean, the wind is strong, and the world suddenly feels vast. 📍 Saltee Islands Starting in May, you can see thousands of puffins here! 📍 Dingle Peninsula & Colorful Town One of the most beautiful roads in Ireland in my heart. Cliffs, pastures, stone walls, and the Atlantic Ocean alternate constantly, and every turn is worth stopping for. 📍 Downpatrick Head A sea stack standing alone in the ocean, surrounded by waves for thousands of years. Desolate, magnificent, and carrying a loneliness like the end of the world. 📍 Adare A town that looks like it walked out of a fairy tale book. Thatched cottages, flowers, and quiet streets make time slow down. 📍 Doolin One of the birthplaces of traditional Irish music. Visit the Cliffs of Moher during the day, then dive into a pub for a live performance at night—this is the right way to experience Ireland.

Introduction: On the west coast of Ireland, there's a hidden corner few people know about. 70-meter-high cliffs plunge straight into the Atlantic, a 45-meter sea stack stands alone in the ocean, and the wind is strong enough to blow all your worries away. There are no railings, no ticket offices, and no commercial areas. Standing there, you'll feel the world suddenly go quiet. ✨ What's worth seeing Dún Briste sea stack A giant stone pillar that separated from the mainland around the 14th century, standing lonely in the sea for hundreds of years. Stand on the cliff edge and watch the giant waves crash against it, white foam splashing—you don't need to think about anything. When the afternoon sun hits it at an angle, the rock layers turn golden red, looking better than any artificial filter. Blowhole by the cliff Seawater rushes into rock crevices and sprays out from a crack in the ground with a booming sound. I've been to so many coasts, but this is the first time I've seen this landform. When the waves are big, water mist sprays over 10 meters high—be careful not to stand too close. WWII-era "ÉIRE 64" A huge concrete number on the grass, built in the 1940s for WWII pilots to see—"This is Ireland, don't bomb." The abandoned lookout post next to it is still standing there, weathered by wind and sun for decades. Taking photos there gives you a surreal feeling of traveling through time. Church ruins at the end of the cliff Legend has it that St. Patrick visited this place. Only a few low walls and an old cross remain. It's very simple, but standing there facing the sea, it feels like the echo of prayers is truly in the wind. 🗺️ How to plan Departing from Westport, it's about a 40-minute drive north, and the coastal road is already beautiful. It's a few minutes' walk from the parking lot to the cliff edge. I suggest taking photos of the sea stack first, as it looks completely different from different angles. Then, walk north along the coastline to find the Blowhole—you can find it by the sound, it goes boom, boom. Afterward, you'll see the big concrete number on the ground, with the abandoned lookout post next to it. Finally, you can walk to the church ruins and sit for a while. The whole trip takes 2–3 hours. It's not tiring, but the wind is very strong, so walk a bit slower. 🥢 Dining back in town There's a small shop at Westport harbor. Seafood chowder with brown bread—a hot bowl of it will bring you back to life. The oysters and smoked salmon are also worth trying, as they're caught fresh in this coastal town that day. 📌 Practical tips · Free, no tickets or gates · Must go on a sunny day. It's gray and hazy on cloudy days, and you won't see anything · The wind is strong enough to knock you off balance, so wear a windbreaker and don't wear a skirt · There are no railings on the cliffs, so stay away from the edge when taking photos · Signal is very poor, so download maps in advance · It's inconvenient without a car, so I recommend renting one or joining a local half-day tour

Stepping through the stone archways of Ashford Castle felt like being magically transported right into the pages of a classic Irish legend. The estate in County Mayo sits right on the edge of Lough Corrib, surrounded by ancient woodland and emerald lawns that look almost too perfect to be real. As soon as I arrived, the warmth of Irish hospitality set the tone, with staff welcoming me like long lost nobility beneath grand crystal chandeliers and rich wood paneled ceilings. My favourite moment of the entire trip was taking a morning Hawk Walk through Ireland's School of Falconry right on the grounds. Walking through the quiet forest as a Harris's Hawk swooped down from the canopy to land gently on my leather glove was a thrilling, surreal connection with nature that I will never forget. In the afternoon, I relaxed by a tall window overlooking the lake with a hot cup of tea, taking in the serene waters while watching traditional wooden boats drift past the estate shore. While staying inside a medieval castle is undeniably a splurge, the entire experience is worth every single penny. Nightly room rates generally start around 750 EUR during the quieter shoulder season, though luxury suites can go higher. If you want to experience the magic without committing to an overnight stay, my top local tip is to book a private Hawk Walk for 140 EUR or reserve traditional afternoon tea in the Connaught Room. Another fantastic secret is taking a short ten minute stroll into the quaint village of Cong, where you can grab a pint of Guinness at a local pub and explore the historic 12th century abbey ruins for free before heading back to the grand estate grounds. #AshfordCastle #IrelandTravel #VisitIreland #CountyMayo #CastleStay #LuxuryTravel #HawkWalk #DiscoverIreland #TravelDiaries

Who would understand! To find a place where I could truly clear my mind, I flew to the west coast of Ireland. When the car stopped at the cliff edge of Downpatrick Head and I watched the Atlantic waves crash below my feet, I really thought I had reached the end of the world😭 Why Mayo County It’s not on the usual Ireland tour routes, but it’s the most spectacular section of the wild Atlantic Way. Here you’ll find one of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, stunning fjords and islands, and ruins that look like they’re straight out of Silent Hill. The entire route is 2,500 km long, but this part in Mayo feels most like the “end of the world”🌍 4 must-see spots (don’t miss any) · Downpatrick Head (sea arch wonder): At the northern tip of Mayo, this is a signature spot on the wild Atlantic Way. A 70-meter-high sea arch stands in the Atlantic. Standing at the cliff edge looking down at the huge waves crashing against the rocks, the feeling of solitude is overwhelming. The ruins of a WWII lookout post are right at the cliff edge, perfect for movie-poster-worthy photos. Free and open all day. · Achill Island (Ireland’s largest island): Just cross the bridge to get there. Recommended is Keem Bay—a crescent-shaped white sand beach surrounded on three sides by cliffs, with water as blue as jelly, known as “Ireland’s emerald coast.” Atlantic Drive is a scenic loop road around the island, with cliffs, moorland, and blue sea alternating along the way. The abandoned villages on the island were filming locations for Silent Hill, and the ruins on the moorland have a strong post-apocalyptic vibe🚗 · Croagh Patrick (Ireland’s holy mountain): At 764 meters high, it’s one of Ireland’s most important pilgrimage sites. Legend says Saint Patrick fasted here for 40 days. Every year on the last Sunday of July, tens of thousands of people climb barefoot for pilgrimage. On a regular visit, the cross at the summit and the 360° panoramic view are stunning enough. The climb takes about 2–2.5 hours on a scree slope, so hiking boots are recommended. · Killary Harbour (Ireland’s only fjord): Surrounded by lush mountains on both sides, the water is mirror-like. You can take a boat tour through it. At dusk, the water reflects the mountains, like stepping into a painting. The mussel farms along the fjord offer fresh catch-and-eat oysters🦪 Hidden gems · Westport town: Mayo’s most beautiful town, with colorful houses and exquisite gardens, perfect for relaxing and daydreaming · Cong town: Filming location for The Quiet Man, with ancient abbey ruins and forest trails great for photos · The Lost Valley: A forgotten valley for experiencing true Irish wilderness hiking 3 days 2 nights itinerary (leisurely pace) · Day 1: Arrive in Westport → check in to town → evening visit Westport House estate and gardens · Day 2: Morning climb Croagh Patrick (reserve half a day) → afternoon boat tour of Killary Harbour fjord → overnight in Leenane · Day 3: Morning visit Downpatrick Head sea arch → afternoon loop Achill Island (Keem Bay + abandoned villages) → return trip Self-driving is the most convenient. If not driving, it’s recommended to join a day tour from Westport🚙 Photo spots & what to wear · Downpatrick Head: Shoot the sea arch from the cliff edge with a wide-angle lens to include the Atlantic · Keem Bay: Shoot the crescent beach and blue-green water from the hillside · Croagh Patrick summit: On a clear day, you can see over 100 islands in Clew Bay · What to wear: Waterproof jacket + hiking boots are essential! Ireland’s weather changes quickly, and the sea breeze can be intense. Bright-colored outerwear stands out beautifully against the moody background What to eat (15–30 euros per person) · Seafood chowder: Ireland’s national soup, available at every restaurant in Westport harbor · Oysters: Mussels and oysters from Killary Harbour are specialties, freshly caught and shucked · Irish stew: Lamb stewed with potatoes and carrots, warm and comforting · Guinness stout: Ireland’s soul drink, Westport’s pubs have even better atmosphere than Dublin · Recommended: The Creel seafood restaurant in Westport, The Sheep and Wool Centre Cafe in Leenane Where to stay (female-friendly) · Westport (top choice): Colorful town with concentrated restaurants and bars. Recommended are Westport Coast Hotel (sea view rooms) or The Wyatt Hotel (town center) · Leenane: Quiet town by the fjord, Killary Lodge offers fjord views from the window · Achill Island: Hostels and guesthouses on the island, ideal for those wanting to deeply experience the solitude of the moorland Solo female traveler tips (must read) · Best time: May–September, long daylight hours (in summer it stays light until 10 PM), relatively stable weather · Transportation: Strongly recommend self-driving! Public transport is almost nonexistent. About 3 hours’ drive from Dublin, heading west via M4/M6 · Weather: Four seasons in one day, with random sun and rain. Waterproof jacket + rain pants + hiking boots are lifesavers · Sunscreen: Don’t be fooled by Ireland’s frequent rain; UV rays are strong · Cash: Most places accept cards, but bring some euros for small villages · Safety: Ireland is very safe, solo female travelers can feel completely secure. But there are no guardrails on sea cliffs, so stay away from edges when taking photos · Signal: Some remote areas have weak signal, download offline maps in advance Closing Standing alone at the cliff edge of Downpatrick Head, watching the Atlantic waves crash into white foam 70 meters below. At that moment, I felt the end of the world was really just like this🌊

In the afternoon, take a leisurely drive back. 🏨 Stay in a Celtic dream · Westport: The top choice for your base. Wear comfortable hiking shoes. ✅ Cash: Most places accept cards, but it’s advisable to carry some euros for remote shops or street vendors. Standing on the cliffs of Downpatrick Head, watching the giant Atlantic waves crash repeatedly against the lonely ancient stone pillar, the wind is so strong you can’t hear anything else—you’ll feel like the world truly stops here. 🌍

Downpatrick Head, located in County Mayo in western Ireland, is one of the iconic spots along the famous Wild Atlantic Way. This place is free from bustling crowds and commercial streets, known instead for its magnificent sea-eroded cliffs, stunning sea stacks, and pristine Atlantic scenery. Many travelers praise it as "one of Ireland's most breathtaking coastlines." The most awe-inspiring landmark is Dún Briste (meaning "Broken Fortress"), a sea stack standing about 50 meters tall. It was separated from the mainland millions of years ago due to continuous wave erosion and now stands alone amidst the raging waves. When the sunset casts golden light on the layered cliffs, accompanied by rolling white waves, the solitary and majestic scene is unforgettable. Besides the sea stack, Downpatrick Head also features a natural blowhole. When waves surge into the underground sea cave, seawater and sea air violently spout out from cracks on the surface, producing thunderous sounds that showcase the power of nature’s craftsmanship. The spectacle is especially impressive on windy and rough sea days. This place not only boasts magnificent natural scenery but also carries deep historical and religious significance. It is said that Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, once established a church here and spread Christianity to the local people. Today, you can still see the ruins of the ancient church, stone crosses, and statues of the saint. Every summer, pilgrimages are held here, adding a solemn and sacred atmosphere to this headland. During World War II, this was also an important coastal lookout point. The lookout buildings and the large "ÉIRE 64" ground marker remain preserved, reminding pilots that they have entered Irish airspace. These are important relics for history enthusiasts to explore. For photography lovers, it is recommended to visit early in the morning or before dusk. The slanting sunlight on the dark cliffs combined with the constantly rolling Atlantic waves creates a dramatic scene. This is also a paradise for seabirds, where puffins, terns, and other birds can often be seen soaring between the cliffs. ⸻ How to make the most of your visit? Plan for 2 to 4 hours. First stop: Admire the Dún Briste sea stack · Walk along the trail to the viewing platform. · Capture the sea stack from different angles, each offering a unique sense of awe. · Sunset is the golden hour for photography when golden sunlight illuminates the cliffs. Second stop: Watch the Blowhole · When waves are strong, seawater sprays out from cracks on the ground with a loud roaring sound. · The blowhole is most spectacular in winter and on windy, rough sea days, but always keep a safe distance from the cliffs. Third stop: Visit the Saint Patrick site · Ancient church ruins · Stone crosses · Statue of Saint Patrick · Experience the historical atmosphere of Ireland’s Christian culture. Fourth stop: Find World War II relics · The large "ÉIRE 64" ground marker · Coastal lookout station ruins · Perfect for travelers interested in history and military culture. ⸻ What other attractions can you combine? If you have enough time, consider a full-day itinerary: Morning · Downpatrick Head Noon · Head to a nearby town for a seafood lunch. Afternoon · Céide Fields · One of the world’s oldest Neolithic farming sites. · Overlooks the Atlantic cliffs. Or visit · Ballina · Stroll along the riverside. · Taste traditional Irish cuisine. · Experience the relaxed small-town life. ⸻ Accommodation recommendations 1. Ballina (Highly recommended) About a 35-minute drive away. Advantages: · Most hotel options. · Plenty of restaurants. · Convenient supermarkets and gas stations. · Ideal base for exploring North Mayo. ⸻ 2. Ballycastle (Closest) About 10 minutes away. Features: · Quiet fishing village. · Cozy bed and breakfast atmosphere. · Almost no light pollution at night, perfect for stargazing. ⸻ 3. Belmullet About 40 minutes away. Suitable for: · Photography enthusiasts. · Sea views. · Deep exploration of the Wild Atlantic Way. ⸻ What to eat? On the west coast, fresh local seafood is highly recommended. Recommended dishes: · Irish oysters · Atlantic smoked salmon · Fish & Chips · Seafood chowder · Mussels · Irish stew · Soda bread Pair with a hot coffee or Irish tea and enjoy slowly by the sea to fully feel the local leisurely lifestyle. ⸻ Travel tips · ✔ Self-driving is recommended for convenience; public transport is limited. · ✔ Strong coastal winds mean a windbreaker is advised even in summer. · ✔ Wear non-slip shoes and avoid getting too close to cliff edges. · ✔ The hour before sunset is the best time for photography. · ✔ Weather changes quickly; bring rain gear and warm clothing. Moher Cliffs

If I had to pick the best region for self-driving, Ireland would definitely be on my list 🇮🇪 Every single view here, if placed in another country, would be worth a special trip just to see. I’ve always preferred places that are more natural and not overly polished. Irish cities are very modern, but less than an hour outside the urban areas, the wind blowing over the grasslands and coast makes you feel like the world has returned to its most primitive state. That summer, we drove around the island, and the whole island was covered in hydrangeas. 🐧 On the Saltee Islands south of Wexford, I saw thousands of puffins for the first time. They wobbled as they stood on the cliff edges, absolutely adorable. This is also one of the most stunning seabird habitats I’ve seen in Europe. 🌿 Continuing west, we arrived at the Ring of Kerry. It’s all pastures, stone walls, and the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes after driving for half an hour, you realize you haven’t visited any attractions, just kept stopping by the roadside. 🏡 Passing through Adare, it felt like stepping into a fairy tale book. Thatched cottages, flowers, and quiet little streets, time seemed to slow down. 🌊 If Kerry represents Ireland, then the Dingle Peninsula is the most romantic side of Ireland. The Atlantic wind constantly blows toward the coast, and the road winds through the hills, never getting boring no matter how many times you drive it. 🍺 Arriving in Doolin at dusk, there aren’t many attractions here, but it’s one of the most important hubs for traditional Irish music. Watch the sea during the day, then dive into a pub at night for a live performance— this is the right way to experience Ireland. 🏔️ The next day, we came to the Cliffs of Moher. The 214-meter-high cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic. The wind is strong, and the world suddenly feels vast. 🏰 My favorite castle, actually, is Classiebawn Castle near Sligo. Behind it is Benbulben Mountain, in front is the sea. Standing there all alone, it has a kind of isolated beauty. 🌊 Continuing north, we reached Downpatrick Head. Compared to the Cliffs of Moher, there are far fewer tourists here. But when the Dun Briste sea stack appears before your eyes, it’s both magical and breathtaking. 🌳 After entering Northern Ireland, we first visited the Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones. The shadows of the trees intertwine, like a scene from a movie. Finally, we arrived at the Giant's Causeway. Tens of thousands of hexagonal basalt columns stretch into the sea, and even after seeing countless photos, standing here in person still amazes with its beauty.

The secret magical spot is here! 🪄🐉✨ If you want a real-life Diagon Alley vibe where Muggles can actually walk through, you've got to pin The Shambles in York! This alley totally gives off the vibe of stepping right into the world of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone! ✨ Even though it wasn't an actual filming location, many believe it was the inspiration for Diagon Alley because of its narrow, ancient cobblestone street and overhanging timber-framed buildings just like in the movies. ⸻ 🪄 The vibe you just can't miss Walking in feels like you've literally wandered into "Diagon Alley." · 🏚️ Medieval timber-framed buildings that are over 600 years old. · 🪟 Classic slanted windows. · 🪄 Wand shops / potion stores / wizarding collectibles. · 🐉 Photo spots that make you feel like you're in the series. The famous shops that Potterheads love to visit are The Shop That Must Not Be Named and The Potions Cauldron. ⸻ 📸 Must-capture photo spots · Shoot from the end of the street looking back to see the overhanging timber buildings on both sides. · The corner in front of the wand shop 🪄 · The orange glow in the evening is incredibly magical. ⸻ ☕ Travel tips I highly recommend going in the morning before 10 AM, because it gets super crowded later in the day, especially on weekends. Even the locals say that lately, it's been as packed as an amusement park queue! 😆 ⸻ 💫 If you're exploring more of York, I recommend this route: The Shambles → York Minster → English tea cafe → Walk the City Walls It's the ultimate vintage British vibe! 🇬🇧🖤

Hiking in Ireland Summer is ideal for hiking. 📍Location: Croagh Patrick #tripbestfreeaccommodation #tripfreeaccommodation

✨✨✨A castle trip in Ireland is like stepping into a fantasy novel!✨✨✨ Did you know? Last time I took my little one to Ireland, we had a fantastic time, staying at Ashford Castle Hotel. It felt like traveling through time, back to medieval Europe. Stepping into this ancient castle, it was as if we could hear the echoes of history; every stone seemed to tell a story of the past. 😍 🌟【Lakeside Residence】🌟 Standing on the hotel's balcony, you're greeted by the shimmering lake and the rolling mountains in the distance—a breathtaking scene. At night, a thin mist floats on the lake, and moonlight spills across the water, making the whole world quiet and mysterious. Such evenings are perfect for a family stroll, enjoying this rare tranquility. 🌿【Green Paradise】🌿 The hotel is not only magnificent on the outside, but its interior is also extremely luxurious, yet still warm and inviting. Especially the spa—it's a true sanctuary for relaxation! There, you can enjoy professional massages, various body and facial treatments, and completely unwind. Plus, the hotel is surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air—a natural oxygen bar! 🏰【Historical Imprint】🏰 What attracts me most about Ashford Castle Hotel is its rich historical heritage. Every brick, every door, every window is filled with stories. Walking through the hotel corridors, you can almost hear the ancient sounds and feel the pulse of history. The hotel's interior is also exquisitely decorated, with many antique pieces that invite careful appreciation. 🎈【Family Comfort】🎈 For families traveling with children, there are many thoughtful services. For example, the hotel offers babysitting services, allowing parents to enjoy their free time with peace of mind. In addition, there are many places suitable for children around the hotel, such as Corn Abbey, which not only boasts beautiful scenery but also offers many interesting historical stories for children to explore. #cityplaybook #stunningview Rising majestically above Clew Bay in County Mayo, Croagh Patrick is not just a mountain — it’s a spiritual journey. Known as “Ireland’s Holy Mountain,” it attracts thousands of pilgrims and hikers every year, drawn by its breathtaking views and deep historical roots. According to legend, Saint Patrick fasted on the summit for 40 days in 441 AD, and ever since, it has been a sacred site. On the last Sunday of July, known as “Reek Sunday,” pilgrims from around the world climb the steep 764-meter peak, many even barefoot, in honor of this tradition. The climb itself is a test of endurance and reward. Starting from the base in Murrisk, the trail winds through rocky terrain, with every step offering sweeping vistas of Clew Bay’s 365 islands and the wild beauty of the Mayo landscape. At the summit, a small white chapel awaits — simple, serene, and surrounded by clouds on misty days. But you don’t need to be religious to appreciate Croagh Patrick. It’s a place where nature, history, and Irish spirit meet. Whether you’re seeking a moment of reflection or a challenging hike, the journey up Croagh Patrick is one you won’t forget. #CroaghPatrick #IrelandHikes #SacredMountain #ClewBayViews #PilgrimageIreland #MayoMagic #VisitIreland #ReekSunday

Being in Lough Mahon feels like stepping into a serene painting, with waves gently lapping at the shore, bringing a refreshing salty breeze. Every house here exudes a sense of history, as if whispering stories of the past. This place is truly a nostalgic time machine! The soothing music in the small café instantly lifts your spirits, as if all worries are blown away by the sea breeze. Savoring the fresh local seafood at the seaside restaurant, the flavors are so delightful that I can't help but think, 'The chefs here are truly magicians of the sea!' Just as I was indulging in the delicious food, I spotted a mischievous little seagull and thought, 'This little guy is the town's comedic angel!' It snatched food right in front of me, making me burst into laughter.

#europetrip I had read alot of articles that this beach was a true gem, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I was not dissapppointed, the water was clear the sand was clean and sparkled. There is also small cafe food vans in the main parking lot. If you have a big vehicle I would recommend parking up the top section as space is tight at the very end and you also get the bonus of walking down to the beach and seeing the stunning views. You also have a lovely cliff walk you can do as well

I took some time off and went for a road trip along Ireland's west coast on the "Wild Atlantic Way." The most memorable stop for me was Downpatrick Head. Just a short walk from the parking lot, sheer cliffs and a massive sea stack (Dún Briste) standing alone in the ocean suddenly appear before your eyes. Carved out by the rough waves of the Atlantic, the landscape is so rugged and desolate that it really made me feel like I’d reached the edge of the world. There were barely any other tourists around, and having nothing but the crashing waves for company felt incredibly luxurious. The site also features the ruins of a WWII lookout post and the remains of an old church, which is an absolute treat for anyone who loves a nostalgic, historical vibe. A leisurely stroll around the entire area took just over two hours. Be warned, though: the ocean breeze was way stronger than I expected and it got pretty freezing, so you definitely need to bring a warm jacket. That night, I stayed in a nearby little town called Ballina and grabbed some fish and chips with a pint of Guinness at a local pub. It hit the spot perfectly after being out in the cold. If you're someone who loves to quietly soak in nature, I can't recommend this place enough!

especially for beach lovers. i prefer Keel Beach, it is located in Achill Island in small County Mayo, is located actually on the north west side of Achill Island at the foot of Achill Head. It can also be found on the edge of the village of Keel and stretches over 3.5kms eastwards to the cliffs of Minaun. Keel Beach, Achill Island in County Mayo is also known as Trawmore Strand.
