Middlesex County travel guide and discussion

Accidentally stumbled upon Walden Pond nearby, just a 40-minute drive away, so I immediately asked my friend to plan a visit haha. 🚗 Guide 🅿️: Navigate directly to Walden Pond Visitor Center, where there’s a dedicated parking lot (but it’s quite mean—$8 for Massachusetts license plates, $30 for others 🥲). 👣: After parking, you can first check out the replica of the small cabin at the Visitor Center, which also has a museum and nearby shops. Then, follow the main road across the street to reach the lakeside. It’s recommended to spend some time walking along the trail around the lake, taking photos and enjoying the scenery. A leisurely walk around the lake takes about an hour. After walking for approximately 20 minutes, you’ll reach the actual site of Thoreau’s cabin. If you’re not in a hurry, you can sit by the lake and take in the fresh air. The lake is small—not as stunning as Tahoe—but still very pleasant. Boston

#photovsrealitytravel If you are planning a walk along the Charles River Esplanade, here is what to expect: 📸 The Photo (Expectation)Serene, silent pathways winding through lush green grass, framed by pink cherry blossoms or brilliant fall foliage. You picture yourself sitting peacefully on a wooden dock, listening to the gentle lapping of the water as sailboats drift by in total tranquility. 🚦 The Reality The Storrow Drive Noise: The Charles River Esplanade sits directly next to Storrow Drive, a major, fast-moving multi-lane highway. While the views of the water are beautiful, your walk will be accompanied by a constant hum of city traffic rather than absolute quiet. The "Goose Poop" Obstacle Course: The grassy areas and docks are heavily populated by local Canada geese. While the state parks department does their best to vacuum it up, a summer or fall stroll often requires strategically dodging a significant amount of goose droppings on both the grass and the pavement. Fast-Moving Traffic on the Path: The paths are shared. While you are trying to take a leisurely stroll, you will need to stay alert for fast-moving joggers, rollerbladers, and intense cyclists zipping past you on the Dr. Paul Dudley White Path. The Water Itself: From a distance, the river reflects a gorgeous blue skyline. Up close, the Charles River has a historic reputation for being "dirty water". While it is vastly cleaner today than it was decades ago, it is still an urban river—you will see murky water and occasional floating debris near the banks.

Now I finally understand why the Boston Marathon has such a high repeat participation rate. Whether it's the six major marathons, seven, or even nine, I used to think people joined these events simply out of a desire to "collect" experiences. But after running the Boston Marathon, I truly regret not doing it sooner. I had previously received two brand-invited entries before the pandemic, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I missed both opportunities. After the pandemic, I ran the Berlin Marathon first, but with school and a Gobi Desert run taking up my time, it wasn't until this year that I could finally participate in Boston. This time, I was running back-to-back marathons in Boston and London. Given Boston's unpredictable weather in recent years and its notoriously challenging course, my goal was simply to finish safely. Without high expectations or pressure to achieve a specific time, I arrived in Boston feeling relaxed but not particularly excited. However, on race day morning, the magic began the moment I opened my eyes. The Boston Marathon course starts in Hopkinton and ends at Copley Square. It's a point-to-point route along rolling county roads, passing through one small town after another, with the cheers from the crowd growing louder and louder. Unlike races in China, where participants usually make their own way to the starting line and check their bags, with the organizers transporting the bags to the finish line, Boston does things differently. On race day morning, runners first go to Boston Common near the finish line to check their bags. Then, based on their assigned wave times, they queue up to board school buses that take them to the Athlete's Village near the starting line—a temporary tent area set up on a school field. The bus ride takes about an hour. From boarding the bus to the start of the race, there's typically a 2-3 hour wait, so most runners bring small bags with snacks like cookies, bananas, and drinks for energy. Of course, there are always little hiccups, like bus drivers getting lost and needing to switch buses, which adds a bit of unexpected charm to the experience. From the Athlete's Village, it's about a one-kilometer walk to the starting line. Along the way, runners shed their warm-up clothes, which are collected by staff. There are also sunscreen stations along the route—a thoughtful detail that domestic races could learn from. This year, I heard there were over 4,000 Chinese participants. While I haven't verified this number, it certainly felt like it, as I frequently heard Chinese being spoken. Among tens of thousands of runners, I often looked up to see familiar faces. The race announcements even included Chinese, and many people who recognized me from social media came up to say hello. What can 130 years of history bring to a marathon? Perfect organization, well-balanced staffing, enthusiastic spectator participation, global inclusivity, and deep cultural resonance. The Boston Marathon is the best marathon I've participated in so far, hands down. Of course, I haven't run that many yet, but I'll keep updating my personal rankings as I go.

By the Charles River lies a land full of inspiration. This is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology—MIT, a pilgrimage site for top scientists and engineers worldwide, and the birthplace of countless world-changing ideas. Standing under the Great Dome of the main building, you’ll notice the air carries a hint of “rationality.” The corridor stretches straight ahead—the endless hallway known as the Infinite Corridor—connecting classrooms, labs, and libraries. It is said that twice a year in spring and autumn, when the angle of the sunset aligns perfectly, light pierces through the entire corridor from end to end. Students call this phenomenon “MIThenge,” as if science and the universe align at that moment. I didn’t get to see the legendary light. But the sunlight still spreads at the corridor’s end, reflecting off the glass walls, shimmering with the warmth of reason. The romance of science is not just a fleeting coincidence of light, but an unquenchable curiosity. Walking east from the main building, you’ll see the futuristic Stata Center. It is the work of architectural genius Frank Gehry—tilted walls, slanting towers, exaggerated angles, like a three-dimensional storm of ideas. Sunlight flows and reflects off the metal exterior, like flashes of inspiration in a genius’s mind; even the shadows have sharp edges of thought. Some say this building “looks like a buggy program,” but MIT people believe “this is what creativity looks like.” Right next to it is the McGovern Institute for Brain Research—a quiet, futuristic glass building. Approaching its silver facade, you can feel another kind of power: an exploration trying to understand “what makes us human,” a convergence of reason and humanity. MIT has no walls; its boundary is the extension of thought. Crossing the Harvard Bridge leads to downtown Boston—on one side is rational Cambridge, on the other, romantic Boston. This bridge is like an invisible link between knowledge and life, experiment and humanities. Perhaps geniuses aren’t far away; they’re discussing quantum physics in classrooms, debugging robotic arms in labs, sketching formulas on napkins in cafes. The charm of MIT lies in its ability to make people believe—the power to change the world begins with a single thought. 📌 Practical Information|MIT Visit Guide 📍 Location: 77 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA Located by the Charles River, with Boston just across the river. It shares Cambridge with Harvard University, so you can plan visits to both in one day. 🚇 Transportation: Take the Boston Red Line subway to Kendall/MIT Station. Just touched down in Massachusetts, USA—aka the spot that secretly gives off serious European vibes! 😍 For real, strolling through this place had me feeling like I’d teleported to a chill little town on Italy’s coast. Sun on my face, endless ocean views…the whole scene was pure magic. ☀️🌊 From the charming streets to seaside cafés, everything here screams “vacay goals.” If you want that classic, breezy Mediterranean feel—but without actually hopping on a flight to Europe—this Massachusetts gem totally delivers. You can spend the afternoon wandering adorable local shops or catching golden hour with epic waterfront views (don’t skip it, trust me 🌅). Explore Gloucester's waterfront (Main St, Gloucester, MA 01930), or cruise through Rockport’s art-lined Bearskin Neck (Open year-round, most shops 10am–5pm). These towns legit give you a dreamy slice of Italy, right in New England. Bookmark this spot for your next sunny escape. The vibes are sooo good—and you’ll def be snapping pics all day! 📸✨

Summary: This is my third visit to this Brazilian BBQ restaurant with friends. Their meat is really amazing, tender, flavorful, and juicy! Honestly, $20 is quite a bargain, and we always leave stuffed. For those with a normal appetite, I recommend choosing the pay-by-weight option instead of all you can eat. ⚠️ Important tips below to avoid unnecessary charges. 💰 The restaurant offers two pricing options: 👉🏻 all you can eat 👉🏻 pay-by-weight 📍 All you can eat (suitable for David Wong) costs $50 per person. Servers bring large skewers to each table and carve various cuts of beef, lamb, chicken, sausage, etc. 📍 Pay-by-weight (highly recommended) costs $20-30 per person. I usually choose the pay-by-weight option because a plate costing around $15-17 is already very filling. 🍴 Highly recommended: ✨ Chicken hearts, cheese balls, grilled bananas, grilled pineapples. Pineapple is a must! It helps to cleanse the palate, allowing you to continue enjoying the meat. p2,3,4: Freshly grilled and sliced meat. Inform the staff about your preferred doneness and fat content. p5,6: Self-service area: various salads, cooked dishes, pasta, desserts, etc. p7: Cheese balls! A must-try! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. p8: Fried bananas, highly recommended. p9,10: Self-service area food. p11: My first pay-by-weight plate. I lost out... You need to get half meat and half other ingredients to be charged at $12.99 per pound. Here, it was charged at $17.99 per pound. p12: My second pay-by-weight plate, charged at $12.99 per pound, costing around $17. p13,14,15: 🥩, cuts of meat. p16: Pay-by-weight price list ⚠️ very important! ⚠️ Remember to get half meat and half other ingredients. You can get a plate with 50% meat + cheese balls + grilled bananas + pineapples (essential for cleansing the palate) for $12.99 per pound. 💬 The first time I chose all you can eat, and two people spent over $100. The second time, I learned my lesson and chose the pay-by-weight option, costing less than $20 per person, and we were very full. ⚠️ Cakes in the dessert area are charged separately, avoid this pitfall. 💰 Average cost per person: $20 📍 Mineirão Steakhouse 📍 Address: 100 Ferry St, Malden, MA 02148, United States 🅿️ Plenty of parking spaces outside the restaurant.

MIT can plan an One Day Trip ! You can start from MIT Chapel because it has limited opening schedules. MIT Chapel was built by famous architect and the skylight shines in it very beautiful, deserves to have a look ! Besides of it, outside the campus also has a famous sculpture by Jaume Plensa! #MIT 32 is an interesting building and MIT Media Lab both deserve to take a walk !#MIT campus tour

#Boston #castle I wish I could go back in time to when I was a college student, and I would have loved to study here at Boston College. It's a stunning place, one of the most beautiful colleges I've ever seen in my life. It felt like stepping into the world of Harry Potter or something. The students who study here must be so happy. I swear I would study really hard if I had the chance. Just walking around, I was impressed by the design of each area of the college; all the buildings and gardens are also really beautiful. We've lived in Boston for years and never knew this beautiful place existed nearby. So, we spent hours around the college capturing the charm of this atmosphere. We highly recommend visiting this place if you come to Boston.
