West District Intangible Cultural Heritage Alley. ✅Atlas Silk Workshop|A Thousand-Year-Old Rainbow Intangible Cultural Heritage Hidden in the Old Town✨ Atlas silk, meaning tie-dyed silk in Uyghur, is one of the three treasures of Hotan, a national intangible cultural heritage, and is known as a "living fossil of the Silk Road." Its production process is completely opposite to ordinary silk: the silk threads are dyed first, then the fabric is woven, resulting in unique gradient patterns; no two pieces of fabric are exactly alike. Visiting the entire production process and interacting with the master craftsmen is both interesting and meaningful. ✅Hotan Night Market Hotan has an old night market and a new night market. The old night market, located next to Quanhu Park on Renmin West Road, retains the authentic Western Region atmosphere. Many locals come to check it out. The Western Region snacks are very complete; the most memorable item is the ostrich egg, which is enormous. The new night market is located on Achardong Road, behind the Kunlun Lake Park. It's twice the size of the old night market and features exciting song and dance performances and various talent shows every night, attracting many visitors. The Taklamakan Desert is China's largest desert and the world's second-largest shifting sand desert, covering 330,000 square kilometers, equivalent to the size of Italy. In Uyghur, it means "you can go in, but you can't come out." When the ancient Silk Road passed through it, countless caravans and monks perished in its sands. But now, with the Tarim Desert Highway fully open, ordinary people can cross the Sea of Death in a single day. 🛣️ 1. Tarim Desert Highway China's first desert highway, completed and opened to traffic in 1995, is 522 kilometers long. It runs from Luntai in the north to Minfeng in the south, traversing the heart of the Taklamakan Desert. Reed grid sand barriers line both sides of the highway, specifically designed to fix the sand. Every 4 kilometers, there is a "water well house" where forest rangers are stationed year-round to water the populus euphratica trees. The full drive takes 10–12 hours, and can be completed in one day. 🏜️ 2. Tazhong Oilfield "Tazhong," located in the middle section of the desert highway, is the lowest-altitude oilfield in China (-1,100 meters) and also the most isolated. There is a desert service area here where you can refuel, stay at a desert hotel, and watch the desert sunset. The Tazhong monument features large red characters spelling "Tazhong" and is a popular photo spot for many self-drivers. The best time for photos is after 7 PM, when the light dyes the sand golden red. 🌅 3. Taklamakan sunset A desert sunset is more breathtaking than anywhere else. The sun seems stuck to the horizon, unmoving, and the entire process takes 40 minutes. The sky transforms from golden yellow to orange-red, then to purple-red, and finally to deep blue. The shadows of the dunes continuously lengthen, creating a different scene from every angle. We recommend visiting the dunes near Tazhong; the sense of solitude will make you forget time. 🐪 4. Desert camel riding You can sign up for desert camel riding at the Tazhong service area for CNY 200 per person, lasting about 2 hours. Riding slowly on a camel's back, you won't feel bumpy as a camel's gait is steadier than a horse's. The camel team will take you deep into the desert. The riders are Uyghur uncles who will tell you stories and rules of the desert, such as not stepping on populus euphratica trees or pointing at the sky. 🌳 5. Luntai Populus Euphratica Forest Park The Luntai Populus Euphratica Forest, located by the Tarim River, is the world's largest, with 400,000 mu of primeval populus euphratica trees forming a continuous expanse. The best time to visit is mid-to-late October, when all the leaves turn yellow and the river resembles a golden ribbon. Admission is CNY 50 + scenic shuttle CNY 50. Stop crowding into popular cities; these small cities are the hidden gems from July to September—low prices, fewer tourists, and a richer experience. 01 Panjin | Liaoning ⏰ At 4:00 PM, the Red Beach has just been sun-kissed into a warm orange, and the color of the Suaeda salsa truly pops after the tide recedes. 📍 Enter through the main gate of the scenic area, take the electric shuttle directly to the "Delta" station, get off, and walk back 500 meters. There will be fewer people and good photo spots. 🍜 Find a "Liu Family Roast Chicken" in the city. It's 50 yuan for one, still steaming when torn open.
