Gives Off Major Overseas Vibes! But Moganshan Isn't Switzerland.
That’s right, right here in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area! No visa required, just a 2-hour direct high-speed rail ride, and you can totally fake a vacation abroad! Known as the "No. 1 Mountain in Jiangnan" and the "Little Switzerland of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai," Moganshan features endless bamboo forests paired with retro villas—every random snap looks straight out of a movie. I discovered some insanely gorgeous photo spots this time, and I'm kicking myself for not coming sooner!
🗺️【Epic Photo Spots】:
❶ Yucun Cultural Market (Free): The clock tower, vintage locomotive, and white dove square bring out extreme Republic of China-era aesthetics. At dusk, as doves circle the clock tower and sunlight cascades over the vintage buildings, it feels like stepping right into the vibrant mortal realm penned by the writer Yu Dafu.
❷ Biwu Dragon Pool (Super hidden gem & free): A secret realm hidden deep inside! Hike for half an hour through the bamboo groves, and the glass observation deck offers breathtaking views over acres of bamboo sea. It’s absolutely therapeutic.
❸ Dadouwu Reservoir (Free): Turquoise waters are nestled in the mountains like an emerald. Heavily shaded in summer, it’s basically the real-life "Little Jiuzhaigou," perfect for a cool summer getaway.
❹ Sword Pond (A top must-visit): The legendary site where master smiths Gan Jiang and Mo Ye forged their swords. The four-tiered waterfall is magnificent and comes with its own natural cooling buff. Standing next to it, you're hit with a refreshing blast of cool mist.
❺ Distant View of Naked Castle: A retro European castle tucked away in the forest. Standing at the prime viewing deck makes you feel like you've been teleported straight to the Alps!
❻ Eros Valley Cave Cafe: A cave cafe hidden right by a waterfall. Order a coffee, listen to the rushing water, and your photos will totally give off sunny beach vacation vibes.
⛰️【Hiking & Nature Breathing】:
If you truly want to unplug, remember to get up early! Hike through the bamboo sea at the crack of dawn to take deep breaths and clear your lungs. Without the crowds, all you hear is the rustling of wind through the bamboo leaves and the crisp chirping of birds. You can also just zone out by a stream or waterfall. Highly recommend the free, easy-to-walk trails at Xiantan Village and Biwu Dragon Pool.
😋【Foodie Recommendations】:
When in the mountains, you absolutely must try the Bamboo Forest Chicken Hot Pot (the golden broth is insanely savory) and the oil-braised bamboo shoots. Don't forget the freshly baked, crispy flatbreads from Yucun. For just a few dozen RMB per person, you'll leave incredibly satisfied.
🚗【Transit TIPS】:
Take the high-speed rail to Deqing Station, then hop on the Y1 shuttle bus straight there for 2 RMB, or take a 30-minute taxi ride. If you're driving, navigate to "Yucun Transfer Center" to park and catch the shuttle.
Walking through the grand lawns or bamboo groves in a light-colored flowy dress gives off immaculate vibes! Take advantage of the weekend and come be a "runaway princess" for a day 👗~
