Northern Goa has proven to be the most popular destination for Russian tourists, although I would also consider the southern part of the state. But let's start with the northernmost. Arambol – there are a lot of Russians and Russian-speaking people here. Yoga, retreats, meditation, enlightenment – ​​it's all here. The beach is nice, but like many northern Goa beaches, Arambol has gray sand. Inside the town, there are many shops and cafes, as well as trash. Mandrem, Ashvem, and Morjim – all within walking distance south of Arambol. I liked the first two for their picturesque views and great hotels on the beachfront, where mostly tourists from European countries, particularly Germany (according to my notes), vacation. Morjim didn't impress me – it felt like I was in the middle of nowhere, even though there are many Russian tourists here too. All three are small villages. Vagator and Anjuna are located very close, I couldn't even tell where the line was. Vagator Beach is deserted, followed immediately by the classic Vagator with cafes and sun loungers, and then further on is picturesque Ozran Beach, a small bay with virtually no waves. This beach is equally accessible from Vagator and Anjuna. I didn't like Anjuna Beach at all. Inside the villages, there's all the necessary amenities: cafes, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, and pharmacies. Baga is a nice place, quite cozy, I think. Lots of Indians vacation here. Calangute - there are even more Indians here than in Baga, and it has everything; it's almost a metropolis compared to all of the above. 😂. Souvenir prices are low, there's a wide selection of everything, and there are markets right there. Overall, the beach is a good spot between Baga and Calangute. Candolim is quieter, but Indians love it too. European retirees also love it; we saw a lot of them. Women aren't common, but they do sunbathe topless. We liked the beach from the central beach to the left, towards Sinquerim Beach and the fort, where you can walk along the shore for some great photos. The sand here is beautiful, golden, not gray. Among the southern beaches, we visited Colva, Majorda, and Utorda. The first was fine, the other two were a bit dull. Unlike the northern beaches, the sand here is whiter. The Portuguese, who had held the Bardez taluka since 1543, built a fort here on top of the remains of Adil Shah's old outpost to protect the colony's northern border. The fortress was captured twice by the Marathas—in 1684 under Sambhaji and in 1739; in 1717, the Portuguese rebuilt it and dug underground passages for supply and escape. In 1741, having annexed Pernem, they deprived the fort of any military value, and in 1892 they finally abandoned it. There is also a legend: Sambhaji's men supposedly scaled the walls clinging to five-foot-tall monitor lizards, and the commandant surrendered without firing a shot—but that's just a legend. Don't come here for the architecture: there are no halls, carvings, or exhibits. Almost nothing remains of St. Anthony's Church or the barracks, with only the mouths of underground passages and bastions with cannon embrasures visible. The view is worth the visit—the plateau overlooks the Chapora River estuary, the beaches of Vagator and Anjuna, and the open sea to the west. Arpora is the most wonderful town for a vacation in Goa, in my opinion! We came here before traveling through the mainland of India to get our bearings and fell in love 💗 The people here are incredibly friendly, the prices are reasonable, and transportation is very comfortable 🤍 Getting there from the airport: Air-conditioned buses cost 150 rupees per person to Mapusa. They depart every half hour starting at 8:00 AM. You can pay by card. From there, take a city bus to Arpora. Foreigners pay 50 rupees in cash. Alternatively, take a taxi to the hotel. We had 500 rupees, and I think we could have gone even cheaper. We stayed at a hotel away from the beach, which allowed us to have a quieter stay and take leisurely strolls in the evenings. Our favorite places to eat: Hartman - incredibly delicious vegetarian food for 220-250 rupees per serving (cash only) Oceana - near the beach. They offer fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes. We shared 2-3 dishes and rice for less than 1,000 rupees. You can pay by card. There aren't many supermarkets in the traditional sense here, but there's a Norm market near Oceana. The dogs and cows here deserve special attention 😍 The cows are kings. The best time to visit Calangute Beach is early in the morning, around 6:00 AM. At this time, the beach is almost empty, free of crowds of tourists and pushy vendors, and the atmosphere is incredibly calm and relaxing. You can stroll along the ocean, watch the sunrise, and enjoy the silence. The water is calmer in the morning, and the sun is still gentle, not too hot. During the day, the vibe is completely different—it's noisy and crowded, so morning is the perfect time to experience the real Goa.

We got in using a premium bank card, but even if we hadn't, it's worth every rupee. It's very quiet and clean, with comfortable seating and a huge selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. They have delicious chicken, fish, paneer, vegetable dishes, and unlimited fresh coffee. The food isn't too spicy, by the way. The staff is very attentive. There's also a bar where you can order drinks outside the standard menu. But the included options were more than enough for us. Our 2-hour wait for the flight flew by in an instant ❤️

At the airport, they gave us tips on how to pay on the spot with Sberbank (we didn't find any Sberbank employees, but more patient guys were able to wait and connect us. So, theoretically, it's possible). We withdrew money from a Kazakh card at an ATM and went to get cash. The exchange rate is 1 rupee = 80 kopecks. ATM commission is 200-235 rupees per amount. Travel to the city by taxi (booked from the counter on site) or air-conditioned buses for 1,500-250 rupees, depending on the destination. We took a bus part of the way from the airport to Mapusa, then a taxi the rest of the way to Arpora. Frankly, I was expecting a lot of noise, chaos, and stress. But, as the saying goes, no way. Goa is a good entry point to gently adapt and move on to the REAL India 😄
