Molde, Møre Romsdal County, Norway
Molde is a city in Møre-Lømsdal county, Norway. The city is located on the Molde Fjord and the Molde River. It is the largest city and commercial center in the Lømsdal region and the administrative center of Molde City and Møre-Lømsdal County. The Church of Norway's Diocese of Molde is also based in Molde Cathedral.
Molde is an old settlement that became a trading post in the late Middle Ages. Formal trading rights as a shipping port were granted in 1614, and town status was established by royal charter in 1742. Molde Municipality was established on 1 January 1838.
Molde continued to develop throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming the centre of Norway's textile and clothing industry, as well as the region's administrative centre and a major tourist destination, passing through the Atlantic Coast Road.
Molde Airport in the north of the city may be the closest airport to a road in the world, and "close" is really not an adjective to describe this airport. #Overseas travel #Norway travel #Norway tourism #Norway scenery #Norway fjords #I miss Norway so much #Ferry #Outdoor activities #Airplane #norway #molde

The City of Roses: Molde
Molde, located on Norway's west coast and nestled along the magnificent Romsdal Fjord, is known as the City of Roses. Serving as the gateway to the Atlantic Ocean Road, we only stayed here for an hour.
With mountains at its back and the fjord at its front, the city offers stunning views. If you have time, you can hike to the mountaintop to enjoy the panoramic view of 222 snow-capped peaks across the fjord, famously known as the Molde Panorama.

Molde – The City of Roses with a View to Remember

Molde took me by surprise in the best way possible. Nestled along the Romsdal Fjord, this quiet coastal city is known as the “City of Roses,” and during the summer, it truly lives up to its name. But even beyond its blooming gardens, Molde offers breathtaking views, cozy vibes, and a strong sense of Norwegian serenity.
I arrived just in time for a golden sunset, and my first stop was Varden Viewpoint, about a 10-minute drive (or scenic hike) from the city center. From there, I counted over 200 snow-capped peaks stretching across the horizon—it’s a view that lingers in your memory long after you leave.
The town itself is calm and friendly, with a charming waterfront and parks lined with roses. A highlight of my trip was strolling along Molde’s harbor promenade, grabbing a coffee, and watching ferries and sailboats glide through the fjord.
If you’re visiting in July, don’t miss the Moldejazz Festival—one of Europe’s oldest jazz events. The city comes alive with music, energy, and an international crowd, making it the perfect time to experience local culture in full swing.
Best Time to Visit:
Late spring to early autumn (May–September) for clear skies, blooming roses, and fjord views.
July for the vibrant Moldejazz atmosphere.
Helpful Tips:
Take a fjord cruise or drive the scenic Atlantic Road, just a short trip from Molde.
Try fresh seafood at one of the harborside restaurants—cod and shrimp here are local favorites.
The weather can be unpredictable—pack layers and a light rain jacket.
