#citybreakvsnatureescape Honestly, I don’t think you have to choose between a city break and a nature escape — Ireland is perfect for combining both. 💚 You can spend a few days in Dublin exploring colorful streets, historic buildings, cafés, parks and lively neighborhoods, and then easily escape into completely different scenery. That’s one of the things I loved about Ireland. You can have your city days — walking around Dublin, exploring places like Merrion Square or Phoenix Park, stopping for coffee and seeing the city life — and then switch things up with quiet towns, lakes, mountains and green countryside. And you don’t necessarily need a long trip to do it. Even if you’re visiting Ireland for just a few days, you can use Dublin as a starting point and add a day trip or a couple of nights somewhere quieter. For me, that combination is what makes a trip feel more complete. I love cities, but after a few days I’m always ready for some greenery and a slower pace. 🌿 So if you’re planning Ireland, don’t make yourself choose between city and nature — build a trip that gives you both. 🇮🇪 #Ireland #Dublin #IrelandTravel #VisitIreland #IrelandTrip #travel #traveltips #travel2026

Dublin is a great starting point for Ireland, but there’s so much more to see once you head outside the capital. And you don’t necessarily need a car to do it. A lot of this route can be explored by train or bus, while places like Connemara and Cong can also be visited as day trips or tours. On my trip, I got to see a mix of colorful towns, everyday local streets, historic places and the dramatic landscapes of the west. These are five stops that gave me a different side of Ireland: 1. Ballinasloe 🌿 A quieter stop that gave me a glimpse of everyday Ireland away from the major tourist centers. Colorful buildings, local streets and a slower pace made it feel very different from Dublin. 2. Athlone 🏰 Right in the heart of Ireland, Athlone is a historic town on the River Shannon. I mostly wandered around and stopped at the shopping centre, but even with a simple visit, it was a nice place to experience a more local side of Ireland. 3. Galway 🎶 Galway has a completely different energy. Colorful streets, pubs, cafés, music and plenty of character make it one of those places where wandering around is part of the experience. The Latin Quarter was one of my favorite areas to explore. 4. Connemara 🏔️ This was where the scenery really changed. Mountains, lakes, open landscapes and Kylemore Abbey make Connemara feel like another world compared with the cities and towns further east. 5. Cong 🌸 A tiny village with colorful buildings, little shops and a peaceful atmosphere. Cong is also famous as one of the filming locations for The Quiet Man—although I have to admit I was too tired to make it to the actual filming locations on my visit 😂. What I liked most about this route is that not every stop felt like a major tourist attraction. Some were simply places to walk around, look at the buildings, grab something to eat or see what everyday Ireland feels like. If you're planning a trip beyond Dublin, these kinds of stops are worth leaving a little room for. 🍀 #Travel2026 #Ireland #IrelandTravel #IrelandTrip #VisitIreland #IrelandBeyondDublin #Galway #Connemara #Cong #Athlone #Ballinasloe #TravelEurope #EuropeTravel #IrishTravel #TravelInspiration

If you’re planning a trip to Ireland and want to see more than Dublin’s city streets, Connemara & Cong is a day trip worth knowing about. This route takes you into a completely different side of Ireland — dramatic mountains, quiet lakes, gardens, historic estates and tiny villages that feel like they belong in a storybook. 🌿🏰 One of the highlights is Kylemore Abbey, sitting beside a peaceful lake beneath the mountains. The setting alone makes the journey worthwhile. Then there’s Cong, a charming little village surrounded by greenery and stone buildings, with a fascinating connection to Irish history and the filming of The Quiet Man. 🎬 What I like about this tour is the contrast. 🏔️ Wild Connemara landscapes 🌊 Mountain lakes and peaceful views 🌸 Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden 🏡 The charming village of Cong 🎬 A little piece of Irish film history And you don't necessarily need a car to experience it. There are several tour companies offering Connemara & Cong day trips from both Dublin and Galway, making it an easy way to see this part of Ireland without planning the route yourself. If you're staying in Galway, it's an especially natural day trip. If you're based in Dublin, it makes for a much longer day, but gives you the chance to experience a completely different side of the country. Ireland is one of those places where the journey can be just as memorable as the destination. 💚 Would you add Connemara & Cong to your Ireland itinerary? #Connemara #Cong #KylemoreAbbey #Ireland #IrelandTravel #Galway #Dublin #IrishCountryside #IrelandRoadTrip #TravelEurope #travel2026

Ireland, a place whose very name carries 30% romance and 70% desolation. Before I went, I had the most unrealistic fantasies about it: emerald landscapes, crashing waves against cliffs, and medieval castles. Now that I'm back, I still think it's breathtakingly beautiful, but I have to be honest with you: Ireland is great, but I won't be coming back, because it's just too expensive... 💸 If you're planning a trip, this note will help you avoid pitfalls, save money, and spend your budget where it counts. 👇 🚗 Itinerary (8 days, 7 nights road trip) Day 1: Dublin Arrive at Dublin Airport and pick up your car. Your first stop is the Guinness Storehouse. Head to the Gravity Bar on the top floor for a view of the city's red brick rooftops; it includes a pint of stout and is beautiful at sunset. In the evening, head to the Temple Bar area to listen to traditional Irish music. Note: Drinks here aren't cheap, so just enjoy the music. Day 2: Dublin – Cliffs of Moher – Galway Take the N18 highway, about a 3-hour drive. The Cliffs of Moher are a must-visit, but the wind is strong enough to blow you away, so I recommend wearing a windbreaker. Arrive in Galway in the afternoon. The atmosphere in this town of colorful houses is amazing in the evening. Stroll down Quay Street; you can walk into any pub along the way for live music. Day 3: Galway – Kylemore Abbey – Westport Kylemore Abbey is in Connemara National Park. The Victorian-style Gothic architecture reflected on the lake is beautiful and less crowded; it's worth spending more time here than at the Cliffs of Moher. Day 4: Westport – Sligo The hometown of Yeats. Visit the Drumcliffe churchyard to see Yeats' grave—simple but moving. Glencar Waterfall is a filming location for "The Secret of Kells"; it's free and uncrowded. Day 5: Sligo – Donegal The northernmost part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Slieve League cliffs are higher and more dramatic than Moher, with far fewer tourists. Donegal Castle is free to visit, and the town is so quiet it feels like it was forgotten by time. Day 6: Donegal – Giant's Causeway – Belfast You need to book a time slot for the Giant's Causeway in advance; the basalt columns are truly spectacular. Arrive in Belfast in the afternoon; the Titanic Belfast museum is a must-visit, and the building itself is a work of art. Day 7: Belfast – The Dark Hedges – Dublin Go to The Dark Hedges (a "Game of Thrones" filming location) early in the morning to avoid crowds; the light filtering through the branches is magical. Return to Dublin in the afternoon to return the car. Day 8: Departure from Dublin St. Patrick's Cathedral, Trinity College Old Library (book in advance to see the "Book of Kells"), and finally, go to Avoca to buy wool scarves—cheaper than the airport duty-free shops. ✨ Highlights (must-visit list) 🌊 Cliffs of Moher: The highest sea cliffs in Europe. The sound of waves crashing against the shore is like the heartbeat of the earth, but the wind is strong enough to make you question everything—remember to hold onto your hat. 🎸 Galway street music: No tickets or plans needed. Just walk into any pub, and you're guaranteed a night of fun. 🏰 Kylemore Abbey: A specimen of Victorian romance. The garden and forest hiking trails are super healing; I recommend setting aside half a day. 🧱 Giant's Causeway: A gift from 40,000 years of volcanic activity. Hexagonal stone columns extend into the sea like a giant's staircase. 🥃 Guinness Storehouse: More than just beer, it's a cultural symbol of Dublin. Learn to pour the perfect pint to take home. 🍴 Food recommendations (simple version) 🦪 Irish oysters: Oysters from Galway Bay are plump, fresh, and sweet. Pair them with a glass of white wine. You can get them at small seaside stalls for about €15 per person. 🥩 Irish stew: Lamb + root vegetables + stout, slow-cooked. It's warming and comforting. You can't go wrong ordering this at any pub. 🥔 Boxty: Irish potato pancake. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, filled with smoked salmon or bacon. A breakfast staple. 🍺 Guinness: Bittersweet and addictive, but don't buy it at Temple Bar—the price is double what it is elsewhere. ⚠️ Travel tips (hard-learned lessons) 💰 Budget: Double it. This is the most important reminder in this post. The cost of living in Ireland is among the highest in Europe. An average dinner is €30–50 per person, accommodation starts at €150 per night, and car rental + gas + tolls are higher than you'd expect. Booking accommodation 3 months in advance can save you over 30%. 🌧️ Weather: More fickle than an ex's heart. Experiencing four seasons in one day is normal. Use the layering method: base layer (quick-dry) + mid-layer (fleece) + outer layer (windbreaker). Umbrellas are useless; the wind will just blow them inside out. 🚙 Driving: A necessity. Public transport is infrequent and expensive; you need to drive to complete the Wild Atlantic Way. Note: Ireland drives on the left. Yield to traffic from the right at roundabouts, and be careful when passing on narrow roads. 📱 Internet: Rent a portable WiFi device at the airport or buy a Three Ireland SIM card. Signal is weak in remote areas, so download offline maps in advance. 💶 Cash: You can pay by card in most places, but some small rural shops only accept cash. Keep €50–100 for emergencies. Ireland's beauty is the kind of desolate grandeur that etches itself into your bones the moment you see it. It doesn't cater to you or accommodate you; it just stands there. The wind is strong, the rain is cold, but the moment the sun breaks through the clouds, you'll feel it's all worth it. Next time, though, I might wait until prices drop a bit before coming back. 😂

Already seen the main tourist attractions in Ireland? Ready to see some new places? These are some of my favorite places I’ve been able to visit in Ireland. Some are close to major cities so can easily be added on to your itinerary. You are all recommending I go to Donegal so that’s next! Where else should I go? #irelandtravel #irelanditinerary #solofemaletravel #irelandtrip #irelandbucketlist #irelandtraveltips

#worthitomot #Roundstone #Connemara I drove the N59 from Galway (1h20) and parked in Roundstone's stone quay lot (free, fills by 11 am) at 8 am. The village is 30 cottages, a fiddle-maker's workshop, and the Roundstone Musical Instruments shop (no entry fee). I walked the old Bog Road west toward Gorteen Bay — 2.5 km of boreen past dried turf stacks stacked like small sod houses, then a white-sand crescent where Atlantic peel breaks left. No facilities, no ticket. The "fishing lane" is the quay itself: a few currachs pulled up, one smoked-salmon stall (€6 for a roll, cash only, 10 am–4 pm weather permitting). Mistake: I came once in August at noon — midges off the bog were savage and the bay wind dropped, so no surf and no peace. Dawn or 5 pm is the play. Another mistake: ordering "lunch" in Roundstone on a Monday — half the cafés close; the pub (O'Dowd's) does chowder at €12 but only from 12:30. Carry a banana and water. Turf stacks are private property — don't climb them for photos; shoot from the road. Worth it? Unquestionably. Connemara's bog-and-bay combo is free, raw, and Roundstone keeps the theme-park gloss off. Spend petrol, not tickets. Question: is a free turf-stack lane with a currach harbor better than a €15 guided Connemara loop bus, or do you need the bus to reach the deeper bog?

#itinerarycheck Letterfrack is the base; the Connemara NP visitor centre car park is free, entry free, coffee at the centre €3.50. I did the Upper Diamond Hill red route: 3.7 km loop, 442 m summit, 2h30 with long stops, graded strenuous only because the top quartzite ridge is exposed and the boardwalk-to-stone transition surprises people. The lower blue loop (3 km) is the family version and misses the summit entirely — do not confuse the two. From the top you get Kylemore Abbey dead ahead north, the Twelve Bens walling the east, Tully Mountain west, and on a clear day Inishbofin out to sea. I hit cloud at the col and lost the abbey completely, then the wind ripped the mist sideways at the summit and it reappeared like a stage set — that ten-second reveal was the highlight of my week in Galway. Trail ethics here matter: the boardwalk exists because the old path eroded to bare peat in the early 2000s. Step off it and you are damaging blanket bog that took 4,000 years to build. No bikes, no drones, no dogs off-lead — ponies and sheep graze the lower grazing. Bus from Galway city is the 431, 1h40, €12 single; driving the N59 is prettier but slower. Bring midge repellent May–August, they are vicious at the visitor centre dusk. Question: should Ireland cap daily walker numbers on Diamond Hill the way Skye is discussing for the Old Man, or would a booking system kill the spontaneous feel?

Galway is pure Irish magic – cobbled lanes, wild coastlines, live music, and local seafood? Yes, please! Here’s my 5-day guide to squeezing every last drop out of a trip to this vibrant harbor city. Day 1: Galway City Core Vibes Kick off at Eyre Square (9am–10pm), perfect for people-watching and feeling the city’s pulse. Stroll down Shop Street—epic buskers plus cute local shops. Don’t miss the Spanish Arch (open 24/7); sunset views here are low-key legendary. Pro tip: Tight on cash? Many city museums are totally free! The vibe is surreal and Galway locals are super friendly! Actually everyone is sup nice! Day 2: Arts & History Day Start with Galway City Museum (Spanish Parade, 10am–5pm), packed with fun local stories. Across the river, hit St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church (Lombard St, 9am–5pm) for history plus chill vibes under 700-year-old arches. Hungry? Grab fish and chips at McDonagh’s (22 Quay St — it’s famous for a reason). Day 3: Wild Atlantic Way Excursion Book a trip.com tour to the Cliffs of Moher—those cliff-edge views truly are jaw-dropping! Bring layers; weather loves to change. Don’t sleep on nearby Doolin for fresh scones and Irish coffee. The bus picks you from near Eyre Square! You could also travel to Aran Islands by cruise. Pick one. Not both. Hahaha Unless you got enough time Day 4: Salthill & Coastal Walks Hit Salthill Promenade, a 2km stroll along the sea (sunsets are unreal). Pop into O’Connor’s pub for live trad music (Salthill Rd). I lived literally 3 minutes from the beach and lots of people jog almost throughout the day and night. I recommend it highly. Day 5: Foodie & Market Finds Saturday? The Galway Market (Church Lane, 8am–6pm) is a local legend. Try BoyChik Doughnuts or work your way through cheese stalls—bring cash, not everywhere takes cards! Getting Around: The city’s totally walkable. Buses hit outlying spots like Salthill (use a TFI Leap Card). Or just carry loose cash. Day trips? Pre-book on trip.com for solid deals. Btw: If you got some time, visit University of Galway! So beautiful and green (Ireland is green everywhere) #GalwayGuide #WildAtlanticWay #GalwayFoodies #IrelandTravel #TripcomCeltic

When exploring the Connemara region—a premier destination in western Ireland—Kylemore Abbey is an absolute must-see. This breathtaking Gothic-style estate sits right on the edge of a lake, making you feel like you've wandered straight into a fairytale or a classic storybook. No car? No problem! You can get there directly by hopping on the Irish Citylink Route 923 bus from the Galway Coach Station! Sit back and take in the rugged, untamed beauty of the Connemara wilderness from your window during the scenic 1.5 to 2-hour ride. The abbey boasts a beautifully tragic history—it was originally built by a prominent politician as a romantic gesture for his beloved wife. Today, it serves as a home for Benedictine nuns, and visitors are welcome to tour some of the stunning, lavishly decorated rooms. The estate grounds are massive, way bigger than you'd expect! Don't miss the spectacular Victorian Walled Garden, which you can easily reach via the free shuttle bus included with your ticket. After a lovely stroll through the immaculately manicured greenery, grabbing some of their famous homemade scones at the garden cafe is practically mandatory. Just a walk along the serene lakeshore is enough to refresh your soul, making this Ireland's most romantic and picturesque spot. If you're basing yourself in Galway, it’s 100% worth the extra trip out here! 🏰 Getting There: Take the Irish Citylink bus (Route 923) from Galway and get off directly at Kylemore Abbey, or just before it at Letterfrack. 🏰 Admission Fee (Latest for 2026): Adults €18 (This covers access to the abbey interior, the Neo-Gothic Church, the Victorian Walled Garden, and the on-site shuttle bus). Book ahead on their official website, as you might score a sweet discount! 🏰 Time Needed: Since the estate is so sprawling, we highly recommend carving out at least 2.5 to 3 hours to truly soak it all in without rushing. 🏰 Best Photo Spot: Want that iconic shot of the "castle reflected in the lake"? You can capture it perfectly right from the parking lot (a free-access area) just before you hit the ticket booths!

Traveling solo without a car? No problem! Hop on the Irish Citylink Route 923 bus (bound for Cleggan) from Galway, and enjoy the roughly 2-hour ride. Hop off at Letterfrack, and you'll find the entrance to Connemara National Park right in front of you. The absolute highlight here is undoubtedly the hike up Diamond Hill. The trails are well-maintained and divided into two routes: the Lower Trail (about 3 km) for beginners, and the Upper Trail (about 7 km in total) for more experienced hikers aiming for the summit. This time, I took on the Upper Trail! After making your way up the wooden boardwalks and stone steps, you'll reach the summit at an elevation of 442 meters. From the top, a sweeping 360-degree panorama unfolds before you. You can take in Ireland's rugged mountains, the islands scattered across the Atlantic Ocean, and even catch a glimpse of the castle-like Kylemore Abbey. It gets extremely windy near the summit, so warm clothing like a windbreaker is an absolute must. After descending, treating yourself to a hot cup of coffee at the visitor center's cafe is the ultimate reward. It was an incredible experience that really let me feel the "wild heart" of Ireland! ⛰️ Access: A round trip on the Irish Citylink bus from Galway Coach Station costs €22.50. Buses are limited, so booking your round-trip tickets online in advance is essential. ⛰️ Duration: About 2 to 3 hours for the round-trip hike to the summit. ⛰️ Cost: Admission to Connemara National Park and hiking Diamond Hill are completely free. ⛰️ What to Wear: The weather can change in an instant, so a waterproof jacket and comfortable hiking boots are highly recommended.
