Akame Shijuhachitaki, Mie Prefecture A tourist spot where you can see many waterfalls, with well-maintained walking trails, where you can enjoy a stroll while soaking up plenty of negative ions. It takes about three hours round trip to see all of Akame Shijuhachitaki, but depending on your time, it's a good idea to turn back halfway. It's especially recommended during the autumn foliage season, but it's also cool in the summer. There is an entrance fee of 500 yen. This is great for a hike up a trail with tons of stairs and fantastic for photography, located at Akamecho, Nabari, Mie pefecture, Japan. Beautiful water falls and Ninja training experience. Fantastic place not far from Kyoto and Osaka.

On my way to my parents' house, I passed through Tsu City, so I decided to try "Takatora Dog," a place I'd been told about before. Takatora Dog I wondered what "Takatora" meant, and it turns out it's the name of a samurai who contributed to the construction of Iga Ueno Castle in Nabari City. Hearing this name two days in a row... it must be a local favorite. Order Counter This is a popular shop with long lines, and there were several people waiting even on this day. It's a sister store to "Kurama Sand" in Suzuka City, which I visited previously, and it also boasts 50 different variations. They're broadly divided into three categories: vegetable-based, savory, and sweet, and there are seasonal and limited-time offerings, so you could go every day and never get bored. White Room After ordering and heading to my seat, to my left was a bright room with white walls. Black Room To my right was a chic room with red walls. I don't quite understand the concept, but it's interesting. So, I'll be having my food here this time. Tsu Marina from the Window I could see Tsu Yacht Harbor from the window. Blue sky and white yachts. What a great view! Marina Set The "Marina Set" (price of the hot dog alone + 180 yen), which includes one type of hot dog, a drink, and dessert, is a good deal, so I chose the smoked salmon and mozzarella cheese hot dog (780 yen). Smoked Salmon and Mozzarella A generous amount of smoked salmon, lettuce, tomato, and mozzarella cheese is sandwiched between soft, slightly sweet bread, overflowing from the bun. The salty flavor of the moist, thick smoked salmon and the chewy texture of the mozzarella cheese are a great combination. However, the amount of filling was so generous it was a little difficult to eat (lol). But that's a good thing! They had a Mont Blanc sweet hot dog available at the time, but unfortunately it was sold out. I'm curious about it. The sweet hot dogs would probably make great souvenirs. Actually, I was in Mie Prefecture the other day on business. I had an errand in Nabari, a place I usually just pass through, and it turned out we were meeting at a tofu restaurant. I initially thought, "Tofu won't fill me up..." Dengakuza Wakaya The designated restaurant was "Dengakuza Wakaya," located just below Iga Ueno Castle. The building, with its charming facade, is said to have been built during the Edo period. Inside The interior was also impressive. A large, open hall featured thick, jet-black beams that exuded a sense of history. Fresh Yuba Sashimi First up was fresh yuba sashimi. The chewy, creamy yuba melted in my mouth. Ah, I wish I had some delicious sake! (laughs) But I was drinking non-alcoholic beverages that day... So disappointing. Grilled over charcoal In the back of the shop, the owner was grilling tofu dengaku over charcoal. Tofu croquettes While the tofu was being grilled, I had a tofu croquette. I had imagined something with a simpler appearance, but I was surprised by its more Western-style look. It was incredibly fluffy and delicious. The acidity of the tomato sauce went well with it too. Agedashi tofu This is agedashi tofu. It's a little different from the agedashi tofu you often find in izakayas; the texture and flavor of the tofu are firm and delicious. This is deep-fried tofu. The firm tofu is coated in a fragrant soy sauce-based sauce. Tofu Dengaku The tofu dengaku has arrived. This is one serving. The aroma of grilled miso is wonderful! Tofu Dengaku Set When you put the sweet and fragrant tofu dengaku on rice, it tastes so good you'll want to exclaim, "Is this grilled eel?!" It's so delicious, you'll be completely satisfied with just tofu dengaku. When it was served, I wondered if I could eat 16 pieces, but I thought, "Well, it's tofu..." However, I was very satisfied with both the taste and the volume. On April 27th, a tragic fire broke out at Urufushine Shrine, a revered Shikinaisha (a shrine listed in early Japanese records) situated along the Nabari River in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture. The blaze completely destroyed the main hall and partially damaged the worship hall. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Sadly, similar incidents have been occurring at shrines and temples across the country recently. We'd like to share the story of this shrine, both to raise awareness and to show our support for its restoration. Urufushine Shrine is dedicated to Unane-no-Mikoto as its principal deity. It also honors a host of other deities, including Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto, Futsunushi-no-Mikoto, Hime-no-Okami, Omononushi-no-Mikoto, Hinokagutsuchi-no-Mikoto, Ukanomitama-no-Mikoto, Takehayasusanowo-no-Mikoto, Amenokoyane-no-Mikoto, Emperor Ojin, and Emperor Nintoku. The main deity, Unane-no-Mikoto, is the god of water and grain. The name "Unane" is said to originate from the word "uneru" (to undulate or wind), as the original sacred object (a red rock) was located near a bend in the Nabari River ✍️ Following this theme, it's also said that the name "Urufushine" is derived from the phrase "uruou fushi-mizu," meaning "nourishing underground water." Both the look and sound of the name give off a rather cool vibe ✨️ Regarding its origins, all historical records were lost to fire during the Tensho Iga War in 1580. However, the shrine is mentioned in the Engishiki, a rule book from the Heian period, proving it boasts a rich history spanning over a millennium. During the era of Tsutsui Sadatsugu, Matsukura Katsushige—who ruled over Nabari—and later Todo Takayoshi, the first head of the Nabari-Todo clan during the Edo period, donated lands to the shrine. Ever since, it has been deeply revered as the local guardian deity of Nabari 🙏 Among its sacred treasures are three divine swords and 45 Noh masks (designated as prefectural cultural properties) inherited from the Iga-Todo clan. The shrine's torii gate and stone water basin are also recognized as city cultural properties. Thankfully, none of these precious items were affected by the recent fire 😌 I fondly remember receiving a goshuin (shrine stamp) here in the past. The chief priest told me, "The character '志' (kokorozashi, meaning ambition or resolve) sits right in the middle of the name 'Urufushine Shrine,' so I intentionally write it a little larger than the rest." He explained that this carries a profound message: "Live with great ambition at the center of your heart." I visited the Akame 48 Waterfalls 😊 Nestled in a lush valley, you'll find waterfalls of all sizes scattered throughout. I had lunch at Dining Kitchen Kuma in Nabari, Mie Prefecture. This is a dining house with a large tatami-style private room. You have to take off your shoes before entering the tatami room. It is often used for gatherings such as memorial services, so we recommend making a reservation just in case. The lunch is so filling that you can enjoy creative Japanese cuisine.
