"Hot pot" brings new surprises @HAKATA NABE Hakata hot pot
Although I often hang out, eat, and have fun with a large group of friends! Sometimes I crave a smaller gathering or just some "Me Time." The currently trendy personal hot pot fits my needs perfectly. So, I asked a good friend out to enjoy an individual hot pot this day.
We chose HAKATA NABE located on Tang Lung Street in Causeway Bay, which has an exquisite and eye-catching storefront.
Since seating is limited, remember to book a table if you really want to try it.
The restaurant features highly cost-effective individual shabu-shabu and sukiyaki! It's absolutely insane that you can savor Kagoshima Satsuma Wagyu and Japanese rice-fed pork delivered straight from Kyushu farms in Japan without breaking the bank.
Follow the shop's social media platforms and upload a food photo to get a free drink! As a frugal housewife, I certainly wouldn't miss such a great opportunity haha.
I picked a cold Oolong tea worth $20, which was the perfect match for the steaming hot pot.
I opted for the Hokkaido Rice-fed Pork Set at $168! For the soup base, I chose the Hakata Signature Spicy Soup for an extra $15. This set is incredibly generous, including pork belly, appetizers, a vegetable basket, udon, and dessert.
The restaurant's brand-new culinary team is led by a crew apprenticed to a Hokkaido ramen head chef! They've infused the ramen artisans' ultimate pursuit of soup into the individual shabu-shabu, creating 4 brand-new, rich soup bases that are drinkable on their own. My Hakata Signature Spicy Soup had a vibrant orange-red color that looked amazing. It's made by slowly stir-frying a variety of chili sauces and chili powders to bring out the aroma, then combined with a clear broth made from fresh chicken and kelp. The spiciness is rich in layers and wonderfully satisfying, making it a perfect match for both the fatty wagyu and the pork.
The appetizer was a sour and crisp pickled cucumber that instantly whetted the appetite.
This plate of pork belly was a full 180g—even a big eater like me couldn't finish it all!
The vegetable basket was colorful and exceptionally fresh! It included baby cabbage, mizuna, pumpkin, radish, baby corn, shiitake mushrooms, and tofu. The mix of meat and vegetables offered a very well-balanced nutritional profile.
For the staple, you can choose from white rice, ramen, or udon! I chose udon to pair with the spicy soup.
First, toss all the vegetables into the spicy soup! Savor the veggies that have soaked up the fragrant and spicy broth, and then slowly enjoy the premium pork.
The pork belly had a tender pink hue with a beautiful balance of fat and lean meat—so tempting! The Hokkaido rice-fed pork was fluffy and soft, and the meat tasted incredibly sweet, savory, and truly captivating.
Additionally, ponzu sauce and sesame dressing were provided for dipping! Personally, I loved the tart and fragrant flavor of the ponzu sauce, which brought out the pork's aroma even more wonderfully.
Finally, use the essence of the soup base to cook the chewy udon! The layers of spiciness combined with the sweetness of the meat made this bite of udon incredibly satisfying.
The restaurant also provides a clear kelp broth for refills! You don't have to worry about diluting the soup base; it just gets more flavorful as you eat.
The tofu in the vegetable basket was so delicious at $22! I couldn't resist ordering an extra portion to satisfy my craving. The tofu's texture was silky smooth and full of soy flavor—an absolute must-try.
My friend opted for the daily limited Rich Chicken Paitan Wagyu Tsukemen Set at $168! You can choose different weights and cuts of wagyu, and my friend picked 130g of lean meat, plus an extra $38 for Japanese ramen.
The Rich Chicken Paitan (white broth) is simmered for 12 hours, tasting incredibly thick and leaving a sticky, lip-smacking sensation! The rich chicken soup flavor is super sweet—remember to drink a bowl of soup before starting the hot pot.
The marbling on this plate of lean meat was absolutely beautiful! My friend praised the intense meaty flavor, saying it paired flawlessly with the chicken paitan.
The Japanese ramen had a wonderfully chewy texture and held the chicken paitan perfectly—so delicious! Highly recommended for fans of chicken paitan ramen.
Another friend ordered the Sukiyaki Pot for $168! He also chose 130g of lean wagyu. The ritualistic sukiyaki pot starts with beef fat and scallions to grease the pan, followed by pouring in the exclusive sweet sukiyaki sauce. Immediately, a mouthwatering aroma enveloped the restaurant.
My thoughtful friend let me be the first to taste the sukiyaki pot with some pork! The rich, fatty pork belly paired with the sweet sukiyaki flavor was absolutely exquisite.
They also ordered an extra A5 Premium Wagyu at $65/50g! The marbling on this beef was even more spectacular. I heard the texture was smoother than the lean meat, and paired with the sweetness and rich egg flavor, it was magnificent. It’s perfect for friends who love a rich, fatty sensation.
Actually, there were mini cake rolls for dessert, but sadly we were too full and had to give up! Starting at just $168/person, you can enjoy a top-quality hot pot, and with no service charge 365 days a year, it's definitely an outstanding value-for-money choice.
