Puncak Tanawan, Negros Oriental A day trip to the mountains for a cup of native coffee or a freshly picked mint tea? It sounds a little bit crazy. The place was so serene, I suggest to go there on weekdays to avoid sharing the video with so many people. There's no cottage in the area but there's an eatery there. The road's quite rough as it's not concrete. This is just an abandoned building with graffiti all over. However, this is the place if you want to dive the clear waters atop a cliff. Be sure lang to check the tide chart and be there where the tide is the highest. Manjuyod is named as the Maldives in the Philippines for its magestic blue water and long white sandbar. I am proud that I was able to come here. we experienced the Dolphin Watching, Mini Sand Bar, and Manjuyod Sand Bar (Maldives of the Ph) The distance between Dumaguete and Manjuyod is 45 km. The road distance is 59.6 km. This attraction is only available in the morning where dolphins could be seen swimming and jumping out of the water. #bucketlistdestinations Most people climb Mount Kanlaon for the bragging rights, but I went for the Mambucal Hot Spring Park at its base, and it turned out to be the real bucket-list item. Located about 30 kilometers southwest of Bacolod City, the park sits at 1,200 meters, acting as the last civilized outpost before the mossy forest takes over. Entry is a humble 50 PHP (about $1 USD), paid in cash at the gate—card payments are a no-go in these highlands. The "Seven Falls" trail is the main draw, but I spent my morning in the sulfuric hot pools. After a humid 4 AM hike through the lower mossy forest—where the air smells like wet earth and the trees drip with old man’s beard lichen—soaking in 40°C water while steam rose around me felt like a religious experience. The park is strict about its "no alcohol in the pools" rule, and for good reason; the mineral balance is delicate. My mistake? I wore brand-new waterproof boots. The limestone and moss made them slicker than socks on tile. Bring a pair of sturdy, broken-in trail shoes or even camp sandals for the poolside. I also didn’t bring enough small bills; the sari-sari stores outside sell cold soda for 20 PHP, but they rarely have change for a 500-peso note. A local guide, Kuya Joel, pointed to a specific pool near the bamboo grove, whispering, "That one is for the bones; the others are for the skin." He was right—the temperature gradient is real. I flew Manila→Dumaguete (₱2,600), habal from San Jose (₱400 return), paid ₱100 foreigner entry at the info centre (₱50 nationals), added a guide ₱300/2 pax for the eco-trail. The mossy cliff is the northeast rim between Lake Balinsasayao and the smaller Danao: Hymenophyllum filmy fern on every tree fern, Sphagnum in the seep above the boat dock, and the Cuernos de Negros wall behind. I walked the 1.5 km rim trail to the watchtower (06:30, no one), then paddled the ₱250 boat (4 pax) across Balinsasayao—pitcher plants (Nepenthes) on the bank, a spotted dove calling. No swimming in Balinsasayao (it's a water source), Danao side is quieter. Mistake: I came Sunday 13:00 and the habal queue was 40 min—weekday 07:00 or 15:00. Another: I wore trail runners and the rim trail was clay-slick after rain; approach shoes. Would you pair Balinsasayao rim walk with a Casaroro Falls side trip, or just boat the lake and watch birds from the tower?

I went to Mt. Hermit in Biao, Negros Occidental looking for a different kind of adventure, and the trip was worth it. What I enjoyed was the journey itself. Getting there meant passing through quiet countryside and roads far from the usual busy tourist spots. Once we reached Mt. Hermit, the surroundings felt peaceful and untouched, making the hike feel more like an escape from the usual routine. It’s not one of those places that feels overly commercialized. You’re there mainly to enjoy the mountain, the scenery, and the experience of being outdoors. I honestly think Negros has a lot of places like this that deserve more attention. If you’re already exploring Negros Occidental and want something beyond the usual tourist destinations, Mt. Hermit is a place worth putting on your list. ⛰️🌿

I went to Jollibee, a fast-food restaurant that's incredibly popular in the Philippines. Jollibee is said to be even more popular than McDonald's in the Philippines, and like KFC, it mainly serves chicken-based food. There are so many Jollibee locations in the city that there seem to be more than convenience stores, and like this one, many of them seem to be open 24 hours. The interior is not much different from fast-food restaurants in Japan, and they even have the self-ordering machines with large monitors that are popular these days. There was no line at the manned registers, so I placed my order there and waited, but it was lunchtime and there were a lot of students, so I waited for about 15 minutes. It's really incredibly popular! This time, it was full and it didn't look like a seat would become available anytime soon, so I decided to get takeout and eat at the hotel. I bought the "Chickenjoy PERFECT PAIRS" set. It includes chicken, rice, fries, and a drink for 147 pesos (about 380 yen). That's cheap, right? The rice was the usual dry rice, but the gravy sauce that came with it made it surprisingly delicious. The chicken had a great aroma of spices and was incredibly juicy and tender. Honestly, I think it's even better than KFC chicken! No wonder it's so popular! I usually never go to fast food restaurants, so I never expected to find one in the Philippines. If you will visit Bacolod City don’t forget also to dropby at the ruins is just a 4 to 5 kilometers from bacolod. Formally known as the Taj Mahal of the Philippines, the ruins is and ancestral mansion situated in Talisay, just outside of Bacolod City. The mansion was built in the early 1900’s by the wealthy sugar baron Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson in memory of his wife. Maria Braga Lacson died during the birth of her 11th child. The Ruins Bacolod are now open to the public as a tourist destination. The grounds surrounding The Ruins are beautifully decorated with lanes, gardens and arches making it a popular venue for weddings. Scenic attraction with a waterfall over red rocks, a natural swimming pool below & a hanging bridge. Pulangbato Falls is located in the Ocoy Valley in the town of Valencia Negros Oriental. It is aptly named so because of the waterfall's seemingly red river water which is caused by the presence of natural reddish rocks found in the area. Pulangbato Falls is located within a place locals call Red River Valley. It is 30-45 minutes of motorcycle ride from the town proper of Valencia and if you aren’t into trekking for a few good minutes then fret not as you don’t need to just to see this beguiling waterfall. From the registration point, you can already hear her waters calling you out singing to you like soulful sirens. After registration, all you have to do is walk for a good 15 steps and there she lies, a priceless luxury you can indulge in. Pulangbato falls speaks true to its name. She will enchant you in her crimson world. Her color may be resembling that of blood but she is as enticing as a red velvet. Her cool pristine waters running over red limestone rocks is one of the few things in this world one can call perfect. She is a tempest. Seductive. Irresistible. She will remind you of strong women.
