Exploring the Balkan secret, healing a whole day by the Neum seaside
Neum, the only coastal town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, hides 24 kilometers of Adriatic coastline and divides Croatian territory into northern and southern parts, making it unique and off the beaten path.
Instead of taking a direct bus, I chose a more flexible route: Mostar train station is adjacent to the bus station. First, take the train to Čapljina, departing at 9:15 and arriving at 9:40, ticket price 6 marks. This train from Sarajevo often runs late. Then transfer to a bus at Čapljina, departing at 10:50 and arriving in Neum around 12:30, ticket price 24 marks. For the return trip, take the bus directly, departing at 17:30 and arriving back in Mostar at 19:30, ticket price 25 marks. Note that Neum has no official bus station; you need to wait at a simple stop in front of the Konzum supermarket.
Stroll to Plaža Zenit by the sea, then walk along the lake to Neum Beach, watching locals dive, swim, and sunbathe. The town is peaceful and healing. The only downside is that accommodation is relatively expensive, so a same-day round trip from Mostar offers better value.
Strange World Tour
Enjoy a leisurely seaside getaway; Nem offers you both gentle comfort and delicious flavors.
If you have enough time, you must visit Nem, Bosnia and Herzegovina's only seaside town. Here, there are no crowds, only the clear Adriatic Sea and gentle sea breezes. A stroll along the beach will completely relax your mind and body, allowing you to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil retreat.
For dining, check out Restoran Laguna, a highly popular local restaurant with stunning sea views. The must-try is the fresh and abundant seafood platter, made with high-quality ingredients and bursting with flavor; the seafood pizza is thin, crisp, and rich, each bite infused with the sweetness of the sea. Great value for money, a relaxed atmosphere—don't miss this authentic local delicacy when you're in Nem.

Sunset, coastline, and a large plate of seafood | A surprise at the border of Bohemia and Croatia
#JulyDestinations2025
Walking in a small fishing village on the border of Bosnia and Croatia, I gazed upon the tranquil sunset over the harbor on one side, and a piping hot seafood platter—clams, shrimp, grilled fish—was served on the table on the other. A large platter costs just over a dozen euros, and the highlight is that it's incredibly fresh, freshly caught and cooked.
There's no excessive tourist bustle here, only small, well-known and recommended restaurants by locals. Like Restoran Laguna, where I visited this time, sitting outdoors, enjoying the sea breeze and watching the sky turn from orange to pink, was truly the most relaxing moment of my trip.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina coast was a real surprise. It's cheaper than Croatia, but the scenery is just as stunning. It's perfect for a summer trip across the border, where you can stay a few nights and enjoy the food and sights. #BosniaTravel #CroatiaBorder #SeafoodPlatterParadise
