Tonkatsu Azuma This is the restaurant we most want to recommend in Nikko! The standout here is the tonkatsu batter. It’s light and delicate, yet wonderfully crispy—honestly, it tastes great with everything! If you want coating this good, you’d normally have to go to Narikura, the country’s top-ranked shop. The shrimp is amazinggg, the pork is delicious, the chicken is delicious, and the croquettes are absolutely fantastic. That said, this place is very local, so it doesn’t offer premium rare-breed pork like the expensive restaurants in the country’s top 1–5 tier. Because of that, the richness and flavor of the pork are slightly less intense—but that definitely doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. It’s still incredibly tasty. This is a long-established local restaurant. There are lots of local customers, and parking is limited to about 4–5 cars in front of the shop. If you go a bit later in the evening, there’s usually no line. If I had to compare it to places in Thailand (hot take!), it’s 10 times better than Aoki or Wako lol

Starting March 4th, 2026 ✈️ Flight from BKK-NRT, 11 PM to 8 AM (Thai Airways). 🌸 March 5th, 2026: Morning, go into the city to drop off luggage at the hostel. Yes, I stayed in a hostel because it's cheaper than a hotel when traveling alone. First day's sightseeing in Tokyo: - Senso-Ji Shrine: Walk in and out, take pictures, and visit the shrine. - Tokyo Skytree / Sumida River: Stunning, many cherry blossom trees blooming along the river, beautiful view. - DisneySea Weeknight Pass: Buy a ticket for the 5 PM entrance to get a cool vibe, take pictures, walk around, and then leave. - TAKEYA: Souvenirs, cheap and good stuff, this is the place to go. 🗼 March 6th, 2026: Second day's sightseeing: - Tokyo Disneyland: Only half a day in the morning because the main rides are under maintenance. Not bothered because I checked in, went for a walk, ate snacks - Tokyo Station: Saw Western architecture and walked around. Went during rush hour, so it was very crowded. - Tokyo Skytree: Just walked around and went up to see the night view, which was beautiful in its own way. - Ameyayokocho: A pedestrian street, I think? 5555 I don't know, it's near Ueno, very crowded, lots of food and shopping. 🗻 March 7th, 2026: Third day, bought a 1-Day Tour to Fuji. Great because I thought if I went alone I wouldn't be able to see everything and might get too lazy to go back before finishing. - Yamanaka Lake - Oshino - Hakkai (the clear water village with a million Thai people) - Oishi Park - Kawaguchi Lake - Lawson - Fuji Walking Park (the red pagoda on the mountain with a view of Fuji, woof woof) - Hikawa Clock. It was a very good bus tour, didn't stop at shops, just let me enjoy myself. No tips. In the evening after the trip: - Shinjuku: Walked around and saw the building with Godzilla. - Don Quijote: Lots of goods at very cheap prices. It's commonplace, but you might go bankrupt 🚃 March 8th, 2026. Fourth day of sightseeing: Kamakura area. Bought a One Day Pass for the Enoden train, unlimited rides, stopping at these highlight stations that people review: -6 Enoshima Station: Walk along the path, there's a delicious pudding and ice cream shop. -8 Kamakurakoko-Mae Station: The illuminated intersection is perfect for taking beautiful photos. -9 Shichigahama Station: This spot on the beach offers a stunning view of Mount Fuji. -12 Hase Station: The large Daibutsu Buddha statue, especially in the evening. -Meiji Shrine: Stroll around and see the shrine, very natural in the middle of the city. -Shibuya Crossing: A bustling intersection with lots of people. World Heritage site: -Shinkyo Bridge: The amazing red bridge. -Nikko-zan Rinno-Ji Temple: This one is located on a mountain, magnificent. Arrived just in time for the midday prayers - Nikko Toshogu Shrine is stunningly beautiful with its golden shrine and dogs, breathtaking! - Nikko Futarasan-Jinjya Shrine - Nikko-zan Rinno-Ji Taiyuin Masoleum, with its golden rabbit statue, a great spot. In the evening, returned to Tokyo - Don Quijote in Asakusa for souvenir shopping - Senso-Ji for an evening stroll. Started and ended here. 🇨🇳 March 10, 2026 ✈️ NRT-PVG-BKK Flight at 10 am, arriving at 2 pm. Chose a connecting flight to save money and allow for sightseeing (China Eastern). Traveling to Tokyo on your own with a budget under 40K is absolutely possible ✈️🇯🇵 This trip focuses on good planning, choosing accommodations in convenient locations near train stations, and making the most of travel passes. We managed to visit all the famous landmarks like Tokyo Skytree, Senso-ji, and enjoyed leisurely strolls in urban areas. Ate well, explored thoroughly, shopped moderately, and still stayed within budget. In summary, "You can enjoy a quality trip to Japan without breaking the bank." Just a little careful planning is all it takes.

Start by visiting the official NIKKO website, where you'll find details about various passes. Since we were only going for a day trip, we opted for just a train ticket instead. We chose the Limited Express Tobu-Nikko line, starting from Asakusa station. The journey takes almost 2 hours, and we picked the early morning train at 6:30 AM, arriving in Nikko around 8:25 AM—perfect for a full day of exploration! This direct train takes you straight to Tobu-Nikko station without any transfers. (Alternatively, if you have a JR Wide Pass, you can use it, but it requires a transfer and is better suited for those visiting multiple cities. We didn’t go for this option 😂). 💴 The ticket price is ¥1,650 per trip per person (round trip costs ¥3,300, approximately 660 THB). After booking the ticket and selecting your seat, you can present the online ticket to the staff at the station. We traveled on the Revaty Kegon train, which is modern and sporty in design. The train is equipped with restrooms, making the journey quite comfortable. Upon arriving at Tobu-Nikko station, you'll find restaurants and a community area to explore right away.

Just about a 2-hour journey from Tokyo, but it feels like stepping into another world. 🍁 The iconic landmark of Nikko during the autumn foliage season has to be the Shinkyo Bridge. This distinctive red bridge contrasts beautifully with the vibrant autumn colors, making it the perfect spot to capture the essence of Nikko. Even though it can get crowded during this time, trust me, the trip is absolutely worth it.

The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko 🌲 A Surprise Hidden in the Forest To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations before going, thinking it might just be a "standard luxury hotel." But when the car drove into that tree-lined path, I knew I was wrong. The air was filled with the scent of trees, and I could hear the sound of a stream in the distance. Instantly, I felt pulled away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The lobby isn’t large, but the high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows framed the greenery outside like a painting. When checking in, the front desk didn’t offer ordinary tea but locally produced yuzu tea, perfectly balanced in sweet and sour. After drinking it, I realized—this is really the start of the vacation. 🛁 "Slow Time" in the Room I stayed in a room with an open-air furo bath. Opening the door, I first smelled the faint scent of cypress wood. There was no harsh partition between the bathroom and bedroom. Room Experience: The ultimate enjoyment of Japanese aesthetics🏡 The room design is simple yet full of traditional Japanese charm. Each room has a private balcony with views of Lake Chuzenji or Mount Nantai. The interior decor is exquisite, using plenty of natural materials like wood and stone, giving a warm and rustic feel. What I loved most was the engawa-style design of the room, like a semi-outdoor lounge area where you feel one with nature.
