The first meal upon arriving in Okinawa was a visit to... Toritama (鳥と卵の専門店), a well-known Japanese rice bowl restaurant with several branches in Okinawa. This time, we went to the Nakagusuku branch, which is less touristy compared to Kokusai Street, with 90% of the patrons being locals! The restaurant has its own chicken farm, and the eggs are of raw consumption grade 🤩. The menu mainly features rice bowls and chicken dishes, offering a wide variety of choices at very reasonable prices. We ordered tamagoyaki, nanban chicken, and grilled beef. The golden egg yolk on the rice bowl, when pierced, mixes with the white rice, filling your mouth with the fresh flavor of eggs without any hint of fishiness. Combined with the chewy texture of Japanese rice, every bite is pure bliss. The thick tamagoyaki is smooth and tender in texture.

I've been to Okinawa three times and have already tried most of the food recommended by the internet😛 So, we decided to explore the more rural side of Okinawa, specifically Nishihara Town, located just east of Naha! We didn't rent a car, but there's a direct bus from Naha straight to Nishihara Town🥳 It's a very local market—we didn't spot a single tourist besides ourselves, just locals shopping for groceries and fresh produce. The farm produce here is way more diverse than what you usually find in the city. There's a ton of fresh fruit and, of course, plenty of snacks😍 We tried the fruit sandwiches, which had way more flavor options than the ones at convenience stores, and the strawberries were incredibly sweet😋 We also picked up a bag of purple sweet potato pancake mix. When we cooked it later, the pancakes turned out super fluffy with a really nice texture, absolutely bursting with that purple sweet potato aroma✌🏻 After grabbing your snacks, there's an outdoor seating area where you can sit back and enjoy your food, or you can just stock up on fruit to take back to your hotel🥳 Taking in the beautiful natural scenery made me feel so incredibly relaxed😛 I highly recommend checking out this local farmers' market—you might just stumble upon some unexpected surprises😆 🌽🥬Farmers' Market: Nishihara Sawafuji Marche 西原さわふじマルシェ
