An Art Island Perfect for a Day Trip from Nagoya.
🌊🎨 [Find Healing in Art and the Sea at Saku Island, Aichi's Little Remote Getaway] 🏝️✨
Floating in Aichi Prefecture's Mikawa Bay, Saku Island is a relaxing destination known as the "Island of Art," making it the perfect spot for a day trip 😊🎨
The symbol of the island is the famous "Ohirune House" (Nap House), an art installation sitting right by the beach 🏠🌊. If you sit inside the black box-like structure and snap a photo against the backdrop of the blue sea and sky, it will look like a scene straight out of a picture book 📸✨ Unique contemporary art installations are scattered all over the island, so you can enjoy strolling around as if you're on a treasure hunt 🚶♀️🎨
🍀 Getting there is super easy!
From the Nagoya area, take the Meitetsu line to Isshiki Port, then hop on a high-speed ferry for about a 20-minute ride ⛴️💨. The boat trip is short, letting you easily experience that remote island vibe.
🚲 Exploring the island on foot or by renting a bicycle is highly recommended. Cycling through laid-back fishing villages, spotting local cats 🐈, and feeling the ocean breeze is simply the best. There are distinct settlements on the east and west sides, each offering a totally different vibe.
🍤 Don't miss out on the fresh seafood for lunch! The famous giant clams, whitebait (shirasu) rice bowls, and seafood combo meals are absolutely delicious 😋✨
🌅 Spring and fall are the best seasons to visit. However, the summer ocean breeze feels amazing, and the clear winter views are stunning, so it truly holds its charm year-round.
It's the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a special day finding peace in art and nature 💙🏝️📷✨

Nagoya's nearby seaside café with a refreshing ocean view🩵
Located in a quiet countryside village about an hour's drive from Nagoya.
The terrace seating offers a stunning view of the ocean while dining, and the sunset view during dusk is truly breathtaking, making it a romantic spot for couples😊.
The interior of the building is stylish and cozy, with a comfortable atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal while appreciating the ocean and nature under the cool air conditioning.
Their signature dishes include special curry rice and a trio of cakes, which are the most popular items. During summer, seasonal drinks and shaved ice are also a hit✨. The ginger ale here has a strong spicy ginger flavor and carbonation, making it the most refreshing and delicious ginger ale I've ever tasted!
This café is perfect for those looking to escape the city and spend some quiet time, or for those seeking unique destinations beyond the usual tourist spots👏🏻👏🏻.

Sakushima - Art tour, suitable for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle ✨
Sakushima - a small island full of artworks✨
The first thing to do is of course to rent a bicycle and go on a self-driving tour🚲
Going in April, the weather is super comfortable, but of course you have to do a good job of sun protection~~
There are basically no tourists on the island, maybe I was the only one that day😆
Very quiet and leisurely
You can only hear the sound of bicycles, birds, and waves
Very suitable for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle
There are map brochures available at the pier, introducing the locations of all the dozens of artworks on the island
You can go according to your preferences
Recommend to everyone✨✨

A large lantern shining against the blue sky
#AichiTrip
This festival at Mikawa Isshiki Suwa Shrine boasts over 450 years of history and is also designated as a tangible folk cultural property of the prefecture.
There were 6 sets of 12 giant lanterns, each 6-10m long, and the lighting of the candles at night was also a spectacular sight.
The blue sky during the day was reflected in the veil of night. ✨️✨️
The fantastical pictures on the large lanterns were elegant and evoked a sense of the times.
Held on 8/26-27

This cafe was renovated from an old house in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture! The interior has a very calming atmosphere, making it perfect for when you want to relax alone☕️
Also, there are no large seating spaces, so it's best to go with just one or two people!
The menu includes several types of sweets and drinks, including puddings and jellies. They're simple, but all of them are very delicious😋

[Louisiana Mama Nishio Branch]
I went to this popular Italian restaurant in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, loved by locals.
The lunch course comes with an appetizer buffet and free drinks.
On weekdays, it's a hangout spot for chatty housewives lol
For an extra 429 yen, you get 3 handmade dolce, which are brought to your table after the meal and cut for you to choose on the spot.

Today is Setsubun.
Ehomaki is eaten on Setsubun, the day before the beginning of spring.
Beans are scattered to ward off bad luck, and holly sardines are decorated at the entrance to ward off evil spirits.
The lucky direction for Setsubun in 2023 is...
"South-southeast" (more details... "slightly south of south-southeast").
We rolled a lot of kimbap again this year.
And for dessert, we had the usual Setsubun donuts from "Zou Meshiya"

Located in Japan🇯🇵 Nishio City, the Farmer's Market is really worth visiting. It has a large area. In addition to locals who usually come to buy fresh vegetables, it is also a good place for tourists to buy souvenirs!
Its most special feature will be to list the vegetables, fruits, fishery, etc. directly sent from various farms in Aichi Prefecture 🚜, and there will also be detailed cultivation records, so you can buy and eat with confidence! 👍🏻
There is also a lot of variety in this market, especially the variety of vegetables and fruits than the average supermarket, and the prices are also more reasonable! 🏷In addition to fruits and vegetables, there are also cakes🍰 pastries, flowers, food, etc., and corner selling Nishio specialty matcha🍵, and Aichi Prefecture shrimp cake🦐, very attractive! Japanese summer, Japanese festivals, fantastic giant lanterns✨
Mikawa Isshiki Suwa Shrine
I went to the Great Lantern Festival.
The number of lanterns and the pictures on them were impressive.
I was also impressed to see the large candles being lit.
The candles are huge 🕯, apparently 1.2m long and weighing 80kg.
The fantastic light of the large lanterns after the candles are in is a must-see.
Six groups of lanterns will be offering two lanterns each.

Unveiling the World of Matcha on Sensoji Street 🍵✨
Ever wondered where matcha really comes from and how it's made? The origins and secrets of this vibrant green goodness are on full display at most matcha shops along Sensoji Street in Asakusa, Tokyo. Here’s the tea—literally! 🍵
First up, matcha is made from shade-grown green tea leaves (called tencha), which give it that rich, umami flavor we all crave. The plants are cultivated mainly in Japan, with Uji (Kyoto) and Nishio (Aichi) being the absolute GOATs for premium matcha.
The process is wild! After picking, the leaves are steamed, dried, then stone-ground into that ultra-fine powder we love. All the deets, from the plant’s origin story to the mind-blowing ceremony of making matcha, can usually be discovered right in these shops. Most even have demos or explainer boards in English—super helpful if you're a matcha newbie or just obsessed with learning new things.
Must-visit area: Sensoji Street (Nakamise Shopping Street), Asakusa, Tokyo
Open: Most matcha shops here are open 10:00–18:00 daily
Pro tip: Watch the matcha masters IRL as they whip up the perfect bowl and give it a try yourself (selfie with matcha, anyone? 📸). If you’re craving the real Japanese experience, Sensoji Street is basically matcha heaven.

My day trip to Sakushima was 3 times better than I expected.
Right after arriving on the very first ferry of the morning,
I was like, "What is up with this island... it's literally nothing but art..."😳🎨
The first thing I stumbled upon was this black cube art piece🖤
From a distance, it looks super imposing,
but when you get closer, there's a little ladder just sitting there,
giving off a cute, secret-base kind of vibe🪜lol
On the opposite side, there's also a pure white cube object🤍
Taking a pic with the ocean in the background literally makes it look *too* picturesque📸
And what got me the most hyped on this trip was...
the rows of seagull cutouts lined up all along the rocks🐦🐦🐦
They stretched so far back it completely messed with my depth perception,
and they were so realistic I genuinely thought they were real birds at first😂
The fact that each one has a slightly different expression is a low-key obsess-worthy detail.
Down by the water, the contrast between the white sandy beach and the moss-covered rocks
was so aesthetic that I lost track of time snapping photos🌿🌊
Between the sound of the waves and the salty ocean breeze, I feel totally refreshed~
Heading back into town,
where a mermaid, an octopus, and a Jizo statue(?) mysteriously co-star,
I also found this surreal monument🐙🧜♀️
Maybe it's because the island heavily promotes seafood,
but there were tons of food-themed bronze statues, so you never get bored🍤
The stray cats along the road were incredibly friendly too.
One randomly popped out of the bushes and completely melted my heart🐈⬛🧡
The wildflowers were in full bloom, and it felt like the whole island was wrapped in a laid-back vibe.
It's totally doable as a day trip,
so for anyone looking for an easy, casual island getaway from Nagoya or Aichi,
I highly recommend it!🏝️📍

Found a Paradise Cafe in Sakushima!
Attention, Aichi residents! 🙋♀️💕
Did you know there's an incredibly cute cafe on Sakushima,
an island you can easily visit for a day trip...? 🥹✨
It's called "Cafe Uru"! ☕️🌺
With navy blue exterior walls that look just like a surf shop,
and an array of adorable surfboard-shaped signs lined up outside 🏄♀️🎨
My excitement was through the roof before I even stepped inside! ↑↑↑📈💗
When I slid the door open,
I was instantly transported to an underwater world! 🌊🐬
Featuring a seashell motif and mermaid-inspired interior,
it's photogenic from every single angle! 😭📸💓
If you love taking pictures, you'll absolutely go wild here. 🫶
🍳 Loco Moco Bowl (¥1,000)
Slicing into the gooey soft-boiled egg with a knife →
The moment the savory meat juices oozed out, I was in absolute heaven! 😳💦🔥
It pairs perfectly with the demi-glace sauce...
🐟 Shirasu (Whitebait) Bowl (¥1,000)
Generously topped with fresh shirasu caught right here in Sakushima! 🌊
The aroma of the seaweed and the rich egg yolk create the ultimate combo. 🥚✨
It's so simple, yet so deliciously addictive! 🙌
🍨 Snow Ice (Oreo Chocolate)
The fluffy texture of the thinly shaved ice is a whole new experience! 😳❄️
The crunch of the Oreos adds the perfect touch.
If you have a sweet tooth, this dessert is an absolute must-order! 🍫🤍
Honestly, isn't finding this level of quality on a remote island almost unfair...? 🥹🙏
A relaxing lunch with an ocean view → dessert.
It was the absolute best way to spend the day! 🌅💕
If you're planning a trip to Sakushima,
this is one spot you definitely need to check out! 🚢🏝️
Highly recommend saving this post! 📌✨
