Nishio travel guide and discussion

Here are 5 must-visit spots in the southern part of Aichi Prefecture. [Mikawa Glass Art Museum] An interactive museum showcasing various glass art pieces, including a Guinness World Record-certified giant kaleidoscope. With its magical space woven from light and colors, visitors of all ages—from kids to adults—can enjoy the wondrous world of glass. [Isshiki Sakana Hiroba] A popular market packed with fresh seafood caught in Mikawa Bay and Ise Bay. Not only can you buy local marine delicacies and specialty products, but you can also savor seasonal flavors right on the spot. The whole grilled squid was absolutely delicious! [Black Thunder Wakuzaku Factory] A facility where you can tour the manufacturing process of "Black Thunder," the wildly popular chocolate bar born in Aichi Prefecture. Packed with limited-edition items and exclusive souvenirs, it's a massive hit with families. The all-you-can-stuff Black Thunder challenge is guaranteed fun, so be sure to give it a try! [Hii no Sekimon (Hii Stone Gate)] A natural rock arch carved by the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. Forged over countless years, this spectacular natural wonder draws crowds as one of the most iconic scenic spots on the Atsumi Peninsula. [Cape Irago Lighthouse] A pristine white lighthouse standing at the very tip of the Atsumi Peninsula. Its beautiful silhouette against the blue sea and sky is cherished as the symbol of Koijigahama (Lovers' Beach). It's the perfect spot to take in the majestic views and enjoy the soothing ocean breeze.

🌊🎨 [Find Healing in Art and the Sea at Saku Island, Aichi's Little Remote Getaway] 🏝️✨ Floating in Aichi Prefecture's Mikawa Bay, Saku Island is a relaxing destination known as the "Island of Art," making it the perfect spot for a day trip 😊🎨 The symbol of the island is the famous "Ohirune House" (Nap House), an art installation sitting right by the beach 🏠🌊. If you sit inside the black box-like structure and snap a photo against the backdrop of the blue sea and sky, it will look like a scene straight out of a picture book 📸✨ Unique contemporary art installations are scattered all over the island, so you can enjoy strolling around as if you're on a treasure hunt 🚶‍♀️🎨 🍀 Getting there is super easy! From the Nagoya area, take the Meitetsu line to Isshiki Port, then hop on a high-speed ferry for about a 20-minute ride ⛴️💨. The boat trip is short, letting you easily experience that remote island vibe. 🚲 Exploring the island on foot or by renting a bicycle is highly recommended. Cycling through laid-back fishing villages, spotting local cats 🐈, and feeling the ocean breeze is simply the best. There are distinct settlements on the east and west sides, each offering a totally different vibe. 🍤 Don't miss out on the fresh seafood for lunch! The famous giant clams, whitebait (shirasu) rice bowls, and seafood combo meals are absolutely delicious 😋✨ 🌅 Spring and fall are the best seasons to visit. However, the summer ocean breeze feels amazing, and the clear winter views are stunning, so it truly holds its charm year-round. It's the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a special day finding peace in art and nature 💙🏝️📷✨

#AichiTrip This festival at Mikawa Isshiki Suwa Shrine boasts over 450 years of history and is also designated as a tangible folk cultural property of the prefecture. There were 6 sets of 12 giant lanterns, each 6-10m long, and the lighting of the candles at night was also a spectacular sight. The blue sky during the day was reflected in the veil of night. ✨️✨️ The fantastical pictures on the large lanterns were elegant and evoked a sense of the times. Held on 8/26-27 #Tourism #Shrine

After going to the beach and the mountains, we went to the island to play 👅 The trip was also extremely simple, take the train, get on the bus, get on the boat, get on the bike and do a tour around the island 🤟🏼 That's the end of the day.

Mikawa Isshiki Suwa Shrine I went to the Great Lantern Festival. The number of lanterns and the pictures on them were impressive. I was also impressed to see the large candles being lit. The candles are huge 🕯, apparently 1.2m long and weighing 80kg. The fantastic light of the large lanterns after the candles are in is a must-see. Six groups of lanterns will be offering two lanterns each. In 2022, Saturday, August 27th Sunday, August 28th #JapaneseSummer #SummerWeekendTrip #CoupleTrip

#photovsrealitytravel When people talk about Japan’s famous art islands, Naoshima usually comes to mind. But in Aichi Prefecture, there’s a quieter artistic escape waiting across the Mikawa Bay. ✨ Sakushima (佐久島) is a tiny island where contemporary art blends naturally into the landscape. Instead of traditional galleries, you’ll discover artworks scattered along coastal paths, tucked among old fishing villages, fields and forests. One of the most charming parts is simply walking or cycling around the island and stumbling upon artworks unexpectedly. 🖼️🚲🌿 Some installations interact with the surrounding sea and scenery, while others have become iconic photo spots. The island also has a wonderfully slow atmosphere — old wooden houses, cats wandering through quiet lanes, seafood restaurants and the sound of the sea in the background. It’s less about checking off famous attractions and more about exploring slowly and letting the island surprise you. 📍 Sakushima, Aichi, Japan 🎨 Contemporary art + seaside scenery + traditional island life #travel2026 #japantrip

Matcha and Japanese sweet set. I visited the Ninomaru Keep ruins at Nishio Castle in Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, where you can enjoy matcha along with traditional Japanese sweets. A set of matcha and Japanese sweets is available for just 650 yen 🍵. It was so peaceful and relaxing to look out over the beautiful garden 🏯. Nishio Castle is right next door, so I highly recommend visiting both ✨.

I finally visited "subaco" in Nishio, a spot I've been curious about for ages. It's quietly tucked away in the middle of farm fields. You might get a little lost trying to find it, but that just adds to the fun, secret-hideaway vibe ☺️ I tried their shaved ice this time. The ice is incredibly fluffy, generously drizzled with homemade syrups that really let the natural flavors shine. Beyond the usual fruit flavors, they even have unique options like sweet corn and zunda (sweet edamame paste) that make you think, "Wait, does that actually work with shaved ice?" Choosing what to get was half the fun! It wasn’t overly sweet, letting you really appreciate the authentic taste of the ingredients—absolutely perfect for a hot day. Plus, it looks so cute you can't help but snap a few photos 📷 If you're ever driving through Nishio, this is a shaved ice shop definitely worth going out of your way for ♡
