Nagano Prefecture is absolutely packed with incredible sights, so we highly recommend giving yourself plenty of days to fully enjoy everything it has to offer!

Dinner at Obusedo Main Branch is available exclusively to guests staying at Masuichi Kyakuden in Obuse. Reservations are required. Evening meals are available only to guests, and even then seating is limited. You can enjoy a quiet atmosphere. When I mentioned it was my birthday, they served me a complimentary chestnut cake and decorations at the end of dinner ♥ The chestnut flavor was incredibly rich and delicious. We also went during chestnut season for dinner, so we made our own chestnuts. We had chestnut tempura, chestnut kohan, and pureed chestnuts with a sweet bean paste containing lily bulbs. You can enjoy a variety of delicious Nagano delicacies. This area is bustling with tourist buses during the day, but at night you can enjoy a quiet, sophisticated meal in the evening. We recommend the autumn season! Reservations open six months in advance. If you visit in September, reservations open as early as March. It's a popular spot, so make your reservation early.

From Nagano Station, take a local bus to Zenkoji Temple. After visiting the temple, enjoy oyaki (Japanese dumplings). At Irohado, try the autumn-limited chestnut-filled oyaki, as well as the sweet potato version, also a seasonal specialty. Then, take the Nagano Electric Railway from Nagano Station to Obuse Station, a journey of about 30 minutes. From the station, walk approximately 10 minutes to Masuichi Kyakuden. At the pop-up event, I enjoyed chestnut shaved ice, which was absolutely delightful! After checking out of the hotel at noon, I strolled around visiting various chestnut confectionery shops. There are many to explore, and some even sell fresh chestnuts. Autumn is also grape season, and I found Shinano Purple and Muscat grapes sold everywhere. Obuse also has grape vineyards. Later, I visited Sakurai Kanseido to enjoy chestnut oshiruko (sweet red bean soup with chestnuts). I purchased plenty of autumn delicacies, including chestnut yokan, fresh chestnuts, grapes, and apple jam, before heading back to Nagano Station by train. At the station, I had soba with walnut dipping sauce at Kusabue, a soba restaurant, before taking the 5 PM bus from Nagano Station back home. Obuse is a town of chestnuts. This time, I went on a running trip to see Obuse and take part in a half marathon. It's a very enjoyable event and I recommend it. We didn't compete for speed, and the lunch consisted of ice cream, matcha, gelato, etc. We enjoyed the scenery, food, and costumes in the town of Obuse. We visited the Hokusai Museum and bought chestnut yokan as a souvenir. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit the wine cellar this time. It's a town that you'll want to visit in various seasons, such as grape harvest season and autumn foliage season. In autumn, it might be nice to go around eating chestnut desserts.
