2026 Oki District Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

This is my fourth time in Osaka, and it's different from what I imagined. Before, when I thought of Osaka, I always pictured Universal Studios Japan, Shinsaibashi, and crowds of people. But this time, on a three-day, two-night solo trip, I deliberately slowed down and stayed in Kitahama. The same city can feel different depending on the time and your state of mind. This time, I'm sharing nine places I actually visited, including Nakanoshima and Umeda... I've included my most genuine feelings. During my trip to the Oki Islands, I stayed at: Entô It's just about a 5-minute walk from Hishiura Port on Nakanoshima Island. The location is super convenient for getting around by ferry. The sunrise viewed through the massive guest room windows was absolutely stunning. During my stay, I woke up at 5 AM every morning to start my day watching the morning glow. Watching the ferries glide across the calm sea was also a deeply memorable sight 🥹 Inside the hotel, there are exhibition rooms and fossil displays where you can learn about the geological origins and history of the Oki Islands. The whole space feels like an art museum floating on the ocean. I also joined a geo-tour led by a resident curator, which gave me a great opportunity to learn about the local nature and the Oki Islands Geopark. The evening bonfire events and the slow, relaxing pace of island time were incredibly soothing. To be honest, staying at this accommodation was the main purpose of this trip. It’s a hotel I’ve wanted to visit for the longest time. It truly is a place that makes you want to come back 🌿

Breathtaking views at the Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark Even though I visited right in the middle of Golden Week, there were hardly any crowds. It was the ultimate relaxing island getaway! First, let me share some of the incredibly scenic spots I explored on this trip♪ 🏝️ Nakanoshima (Ama Town) This is the island where "Ento" (the hotel I stayed at for 2 nights) is located.

A white sandy beach just a few minutes' walk from Ento.
The water is crystal clear, just like Okinawa, yet I was amazed by how empty it was 🥹 🏝️ Nishinoshima Most of the Oki Islands' most scenic spots are over here.
You can get here in about 10 minutes on the "Isokaze" ferry from Hishiura Port♪ 📍 Matengai Cliff
Horses × Cliffs × Ocean × Grasslands
This was hands down my favorite spot in Oki. The horses roam free, so you'll spot them in different places depending on what time you visit! That was so much fun that I ended up going three times during my stay 🐎 Late afternoon to evening is especially recommended. 📍 Yurahime Shrine

A spectacular vantage point where you can look out over the giant natural arch, "Tsutenkyo."
This epic scenery is the textbook definition of the Oki Islands. 📍 Sotohama Beach The crystal-clear blue water is stunning. It's also way more spacious than Rainbow Beach! Tourist spots have free parking ◎
Having a rental car makes getting around super easy 🚗

#naratrip Beautiful waterfall that's definitely worth a visit. If you are driving, You can park your car at Diamon zaka steps and hike to Kumano Nachi Tanisha then to Nachi Falls. You need to be reasonably fit and will take about an hour or more. Then take a bus back to Diamon zaka Alternatively, park at Nachi Falls carpark. Since Nachi Falls is quite close to Kumano Nachi Tanisha, you can also visit Kumano Nachi Taisha. Just walk down the road to the entrance of the shrine n loop back via the hiking route
