Romantic and Cultural Scenery of Spanish Harbors
Pilgrimage Along Spain's Atlantic Coast - Gipuzkoa Region
The harbor is beautifully situated, nestled between the old town and the beach. In the distance, a majestic medieval church and a lighthouse perched on a rocky cape overlook the harbor. Along the edge of the harbor is a long stone-paved promenade, offering a unique charm when strolling on a sunny day.
This harbor changes rapidly with the tide. When we arrived, the tide was low, but after lunch, with a gust of wind, the water level rose quickly. The harbor and the restaurants were bustling with people, filled with lively music and a vibrant atmosphere.

Kids love natural swimming pools and diving areas 🏊♂️
A Pilgrimage to the Spanish Atlantic Coast – Gipuzkoa Region
This tranquil swimming spot features diving boards, but be careful with the log poles in the head-down jumping and standing area. Very cool areas, especially suitable for children, are only available at high tide; they resemble natural pools beside a promenade. When the tide recedes, they become shallow. Teenagers seemed to be having a great time. It's also a great spot for taking photos.

Stroll along the coastal cobblestone path and explore century-old buildings 🏡
Spain Atlantic Coastal Pilgrimage - Gipsqua Region
A 16th-century mansion where Isabel II and others lived. It is located at the entrance of the town, close to the sea. Its main significance lies in a legend revived in 1912 by Father Coloma, who was also a guest of the palace: a Huguenot fled France on St. Bartholomew's Day, was shipwrecked near Zaruas, and was welcomed in the palace's "blue room." Soon after, he died mysteriously, and his screams and cries could be heard every August 23, while the furniture and paintings came to life. The theme applies to the popular game "Escape Room".

A Serene Journey to the Sacred Church ✨
A Pilgrimage Along the Spanish Atlantic Coast – Gipuzkoa Region
First, upon entering the Church of Santa Maria in Zarujas, you are greeted by the incredibly beautiful image of the Mourning Virgin Mary. The altar and septa (possibly used before the Vatican's Second Palace) showcase the majesty and craftsmanship of the artists who created these masterpieces of sacred art. Located in Camino del Norte, the church is a wonderful sanctuary for those seeking God's presence and the silence of thick walls, allowing you to feel intimate prayer and the voice of the Holy Spirit – a sacred stillness.

Atlantic Coast Historic Town Tour
Spain's Atlantic Coast Pilgrimage - Guipúzcoa
This small town in the province of Guipúzcoa boasts excellent beaches and a fascinating historical district. Its local cuisine is among the most refined and celebrated in the Basque Country.
This ancient whaler's settlement developed into a major tourist village in the 19th century. It boasts the longest, most elegant beach in the province, a tranquil promenade dotted with avant-garde sculptures along the Cantabrian coast. Zarautz's waves make it a surfer's paradise. The city center boasts some surprising features, such as the Gothic Torre Luzea, the medieval Church of Santa María la Real, and the Renaissance Palace of Narrows. The city also boasts numerous ancestral houses, as well as the 16th-century Port Palace, situated on the Cantabrian coast. Other cultural activities include visits to the Basque Museum of Photography and the Zarautz Museum of Art and History. Any trip through this city should include sampling some of the local cuisine. Nothing beats pintxos (tapas) and fresh fish casseroles, which pair beautifully with wine from the Chacolí de Guetaria-Guetariako-Txakolina Designation of Origin.

The largest underground labyrinth in Guipúzcoa
Spain's Atlantic Coast Pilgrimage ~ Guipúzcoa
This is the largest cave in Guipúzcoa. It offers stunning views of the Ezcori Mountains.
The municipality of Oñate boasts a magnificent limestone karst landscape, rich in speleology and home to the Aricruz Cave. The diverse and massive formations formed by dissolution and sedimentation create a captivating landscape system featuring massive flowstone formations, stalagmites, and underground waterways. The cave is located on the road between Oñate and the Aranzazú Reserve, at an altitude of approximately 400 meters. Open to the public since June 2007, the cave lasts 60 minutes and covers a 500-meter walkway with a 35-meter descent. The tour follows a suspended walkway equipped with a modern dynamic lighting system.

Best Spiritual Healing Spot for a Morning Beach Walk
Pilgrimage Along the Spanish Atlantic Coast - Gipuzkoa Region
I've visited many beaches, and this one undoubtedly ranks in my top five. There are two pools that remain filled with water even during low tide. One pool is shallower, making it perfect for children, while the other is much deeper, attracting noisy teenagers and more serious adult swimmers. But what I love most is the sand. The tidal differences are so distinct, and the water quality is excellent. The sand is soft and delightful.

The most representative neoclassical building in Guipúzcoa
Spain's Atlantic Coast Pilgrimage ~ Guipúzcoa
The building's exterior is rectangular, with a centrally arranged interior. Its Greek temple-style portico is particularly striking. It houses a painting of the Crucifixion by painter Francisco de Zurbarán. This Andalusian School work dates back to 1630-1635 and was donated to the Diocese of Mutriku by canons of Seville Cathedral's Ibarburú.

Gipuzkoa Leisure Trail: Suitable for All Ages
A Pilgrimage Along Spain's Atlantic Coast - Gipuzkoa Region
This is an excellent route leading to a hilltop with a historic building adorned with decorative flags. Starting from the port, you can reach it via a short and gentle slope, with several pleasant rest stops and scenic viewpoints along the way. The trail is suitable for all ages and offers stunning views of the coastal area between Zarautz and Zumaia, including beaches, the port, and the historic center of Getaria.

European Gothic-style towers are great spots for photos.
Pilgrimage along the Atlantic coast of Spain - Gipuzkoa region
These stunning Gothic or Neo-Gothic buildings were originally located in the center of San Sebastián but were moved (yes, literally relocated). To preserve these architectural gems, they were dismantled and then reassembled like a puzzle. Today, these beautiful towers are situated in scenic locations, offering breathtaking views of San Sebastián city.

Daily stroll in a French manor 🌿
Spain's Atlantic Coast Pilgrimage ~ Guipúzcoa
Want to visit an authentic French estate from the late 19th century? This is it! It looks stunning, like something out of a movie. It's such a charming place. I loved exploring it. The hiking is fantastic, exploring every nook and cranny to admire the waterfalls, natural scenery, and flora. You can sit back and savor every moment, admiring the lush greenery and meticulously maintained lawns. I fell in love with this wonderful place.

Encountering a Moment of Summer Splendor at the City Park Pavilion
A Pilgrimage Along the Spanish Atlantic Coast: Gipuzkoa Region
The tree-lined avenue is very close to the old town of San Sebastián. It serves as a lively gathering spot for locals, always filled with joy and excitement. On its ice cream shops and terraces, visitors can cool off during the hot summer afternoons. The avenue acts as a dividing axis between two parts of the city: the old town and Ensanche Cortázar. This expansive urban space stretches from the Kursaal Bridge to the City Hall building.

Ultimate Coastal Hiking Route in San Sebastián
Pilgrimage Along Spain's Atlantic Coast - Gipuzkoa Region
One of my favorite hiking trails in San Sebastián circles halfway around Mount Urgull, offering a complete seaside path. Along this trail, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Cantabrian Sea, hear the crashing waves, and witness the rolling surf—all in about 40 minutes. You can start either from the area opposite Kursaal or from the terrace above the aquarium near the port, depending on your chosen direction. Eventually, you'll reach the other side. There is a paid parking lot available, where you can stay longer to better appreciate the city.
The trail features several viewpoints overlooking La Concha Bay, Santa Clara Island, Zurriola Beach, and Kursaal, depending on your location along the path. During high tide, the splashing waves create a stunning scene, but caution is advised. The sculpture by Jorge Otaiza, located opposite the Wind Comb (Peine de los Vientos), marks the starting point of the trail on the La Concha Bay side. You can also opt to climb to the summit of Mount Urgull from the trail. This route is a must-visit in San Sebastián.

The Most Stunning San Sebastián Coastline in Gipuzkoa Province
A pilgrimage along Spain's Atlantic coast ~ Gipuzkoa region
The history of the viewpoint dates back to the 16th century when it was initially a fortress. It offers a panoramic view of the San Sebastián coastline, including La Concha Bay, Zurriola Beach, and the surrounding cityscape. You can reach it from the San Telmo Museum via a moderately steep path that is inaccessible by car. The walk takes about 15 minutes, and the breathtaking scenery is well worth the effort!

A charming and historic little corner
Pilgrimage along the Atlantic coast of Spain ~ Gipuzkoa region
Another must-visit spot to explore the beautiful attractions of the area. Perfect for hiking through the mountains. The old aqueduct is somewhat dilapidated, but inherently intriguing. Crossing it is dangerous, but with caution, you can make your way through. I hope they repair it and maintain it well in the future. Not far ahead, there is a natural water source and a place for a lunch break. The water flow is abundant, making it great during summer.

Spain's Atlantic Coast Pilgrimage ~ Guipúzcoa
Plaza de Santiago truly feels like the soul of Pasayonibán—a picture-perfect fishing village brimming with character. The square faces the water and is surrounded by colorful old houses and a few charming bars and restaurants. We visited over Easter weekend and were fortunate to witness a solemn procession through the narrow streets—drums echoing, incense filling the air, and locals walking in silence. It was an unforgettable moment that brought the village's rich traditions to life.

Spanish Fashion Museum: A Hidden Treasure
Pilgrimage Along Spain's Atlantic Coast ~ Gipuzkoa Region
One of those hidden gems. We stumbled upon it and absolutely loved it. Though small, this place houses some truly remarkable items. The costumes are exquisite, and there are many fascinating pieces. The exhibition we saw featured garments designed by some of the greatest designers in fashion history. On the top floor, there's a wardrobe filled with suits and hats you can actually try on. It was such a delightful surprise, and we will definitely return!

A day trip to San Sebastián: highlights
San Sebastián 🏖️ Although we only stayed for 24 hours, we've already left with so many wonderful memories.
It has a stunning beach (though the water is a bit chilly for Asians in September 😂), and the pintxos and Basque cakes in the old town, La Viña, are incredibly delicious 🍰—I absolutely fell in love with them!
📍 Accommodation Tips:
🚉 If you're taking the train or bus, stay in the old town, so you're within walking distance of the food scene.
🚗 If you're driving, stay near Monte Igueldo for a great view of the bay.
🌅 The most beautiful view of La Concha (Bay of Shells) → Monte Igueldo Viewpoint!
You can take the Funicular de Igueldo cable car or drive up the mountain. At the top, you'll find a vintage amusement park and sweeping views of the bay—it's definitely worth it!
San Sebastián, a short but unforgettable trip 💙✨

[Watching Real Sociedad in San Sebastian]
I went to watch a match of "Real Sociedad", based in the Basque Country, Spain⚽️
The purpose of this trip was to see Takefusa Kubo play with my very own eyes.
The match was held at the team's home stadium, Anoeta, and since it was during Golden Week, there were a few Japanese supporters in attendance.
⸻
🎫【Match Scene】
・Kubo started on the bench
・Only played for about 5 minutes at the end of the match
・Although his playing time was short, being able to cheer on the team in person was a valuable experience
The enthusiasm and atmosphere of stadiums overseas are powerful in a different way than in Japan.
The singing of the supporters, the sense of unity in the local community, and above all, the atmosphere of "soccer being deeply rooted in culture" were impressive.
⸻
📍【Real Sociedad viewing information】
・Stadium: Reale Arena (Anoeta)
・Access: Accessible by foot or tram from San Sebastian city center
・There is no Japanese support, so you can use the official app or Google Translate to smoothly arrange tickets
⸻
⚽️Kubo played few games, but
it was only when I came to the site that I realized for the first time that "he is loved in this area."
I would like to try again if I have the opportunity.

My dream city of San Sebastian!
San Sebastian on the Spanish side of the Basque Country is famous for its many Michelin-starred restaurants! If you go there, there's nothing to do but eat! Lol There is a beach 🏖️ though lol
There are also bars that are open from the morning lol I start my morning with Basque cheesecake! This is the birthplace of Basque cheese! Of course, it goes well with sparkling wine lol
Bar hopping both day and night! There are many small tapas, so it's perfect for eating and drinking!
I definitely want to go back and recommend this place!

Real Sociedad's home stadium.
Reale Arena
The stadium has a capacity of 32,000 and is the home stadium of Real Sociedad. There are a lot of Japanese tourists because Takefusa Kubo is a member of the team.
The stadium is very large, and on game days, the cheers of the fans echo not only inside the stadium but also outside.
The most common way to get to the stadium from the center of San Sebastian is by bus. You can also walk there.

Gipuzkoa Plaza @San Sebastian🦢
Gipuzkoa Plaza is a square in San Sebastian, Basque Country, northern Spain! It seems to be a park designed by a French gardener. I was surprised to see swans in the pond. It is a place of relaxation for locals and is very quiet and comfortable! There is a bus to the neighboring town of Hondarribia from the bus stop right in front of the square, so if you have the chance, please stop by the square.
