2026 Osoyoos Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in July)

From July 1 to July 5, starting from 🇨🇦 Vancouver, crossing 🇺🇸 Washington, Idaho, Montana, then returning to BC through Alberta, Canada. The total distance is about 2800 kilometers. Day 1 Richmond → Leavenworth → Steptoe Butte → Spokane Valley First visit the German-themed town of Leavenworth, then head to Steptoe Butte to overlook Washington State’s iconic wheat fields. Stay overnight in Spokane Valley. Day 2 Spokane Valley → Coeur d’Alene → Sandpoint → Kootenai Falls → Whitefish Cross three states in one day: Washington, Idaho, and Montana, accompanied by beautiful lakes and mountains. Stay overnight in Whitefish. Day 3 Whitefish → Glacier National Park → 🇨🇦 Alberta → Rossland Enter from the west gate early in the morning and drive along Going-to-the-Sun Road, stopping at The Loop, Weeping Wall, Big Bend, Logan Pass, Jackson Glacier Overlook, Wild Goose Island Overlook, and St. Mary. We were lucky to see deer, mountain goats, and black bears. After leaving the national park, enter Alberta, Canada via Chief Mountain Highway, then return to BC along Highway 3. Stay overnight in Rossland. Day 4 Rossland → Champion Lakes → Nelson → Balfour → Kootenay Bay → Rossland Experience the free sightseeing Train No. 23 and the Kootenay Lake Ferry in Nelson. Day 5 Rossland → Anarchist Mountain Lookout → Spotted Lake → Peach King Orchards → Chilliwack → Richmond 🚗 Tips ✅ Going-to-the-Sun Road is the only road crossing Glacier National Park from east to west. Most sections are two-way single lanes with many curves, so drive cautiously and slowly. On the way to Logan Pass, there was a collision with an oncoming vehicle ahead. Fortunately, kind locals directed alternating traffic flow, so the delay was not long. ✅ We arrived at Logan Pass at noon on July 3 (National Park free admission day). There were still plenty of parking spaces available, contrary to online claims of difficulty parking. This is a self-drive loop at the US-Canada border that offers a rich experience of wheat fields, glaciers, snow-capped mountains, lakes, ferries, and wildlife.

Everything was great! The trip was a success! I loved absolutely everything!

On the evening we arrived in Osoyoos, the sun shone brightly, and the lake shimmered with golden light. Wanting to experience one of the most representative local restaurants, we chose this highly-rated one with the most unique name – The Bear, The Fish, The Root & The Berry. The name is quite romantic, derived from the "Four Chief Foods" of the local Aboriginal culture: bear, fish, root, and berry, symbolizing nature and symbiosis. Just hearing it evokes a rich story. 🍷 The restaurant is located in the Spirit Ridge Resort, with vineyard and lake views outside the windows, which was a huge plus. It was incredibly popular; we got the last table. As for the taste – above average for Western food, but nothing amazing. The steak was a bit overcooked, not tender enough, and lacked flavor; the other main courses and side dishes were much better. Overall, it was just average. 💰The prices are quite "stunning"—each dish is basically over 40 Canadian dollars, and with tax and tip, a meal here is comparable to a high-end restaurant in downtown Vancouver. This restaurant is better suited for its scenery and atmosphere than specifically for the food. Sitting by the lake, sipping a drink, chatting, and experiencing that "slow vacation" atmosphere—its story is more captivating than the taste.

I drove 4 hours to Osoyoos from Vancouver. Osoyoos is known to be the dessert of BC. There is a quaint central street busy with shops, cafes and restaurants. It is a few blocks from the serene Osoyoos lake. There are also trails you can walk endlessly and wineries to visit. Upon my return to Vancouver, there are plenty of farms selling their fruits. In the month of June, cherries are in season and I bought a large box as souvenirs. #Osoyoos

📅 Itinerary We visited Osoyoos in early June, the weather was quite warm and we could relax like we were on a seaside town.We spent 4 days relaxing in Osoyoos, lounging on the lake, doing beach activities and visiting Spotted Lake, picnicking in the park and walking around town shopping and eating ice cream in town.
