Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Girona (Region) The Torre de las Horas (Tower of Hours) is one of the most iconic and well-preserved structures of Peratallada's medieval defense system. Its historic center is located on a hill, surrounded by plains that were originally marshland. You have to go back to the 9th century - the period to which this castle belongs - to find the first written reference to this town. Constant war confrontations meant that only the castle, a defensive structure, has been preserved over the centuries. It is a round Romanesque tower built between the 11th and 13th centuries. The 15-meter-high tower stands on a natural rock platform, which contains many Visigothic tombs.
