When you see photos of Coqueiros in Florianópolis, it's easy to imagine spending the day swimming in these beautiful beaches. But that's not really what this part of the city is about. Coqueiros is on the mainland of Florianópolis and has several beaches along its waterfront, including Praia do Rizzo, Praia da Saudade, Praia do Meio and Itaguaçu. The views are beautiful, but many of these beaches aren't suitable for swimming. So if you're visiting Florianópolis and looking for somewhere to spend the day in the water, this probably isn't the area I'd choose. What I did enjoy was simply walking along the waterfront and discovering the different beaches and landscapes. And Itaguaçu is especially interesting because of its huge granite rocks in the water, which give the area a very different look from the beaches people usually associate with Florianópolis. Most tourists visiting Florianópolis head straight to the island’s famous beaches. I decided to explore Coqueiros instead, a neighborhood on the mainland of Florianópolis, just across the bay from the island. It’s not usually a beach destination for swimming. The small beaches along this part of the coast have bathing restrictions, but that doesn’t make the area any less beautiful. In fact, the waterfront is one of the reasons I loved exploring this side of the city. I didn't have a guide. I didn't have a sightseeing list. I just followed the coastline. 🌊 Praia do Riso 🌿 Praia da Saudade 🌴 Praia do Meio 🪨 Praia de Itaguaçu These beaches are connected by the waterfront, making Coqueiros a great area to explore on foot rather than simply stopping at one beach. The route also has a very different atmosphere from Florianópolis’ famous beach neighborhoods. There are walking areas, restaurants, views across the bay and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery. And then comes Itaguaçu, the most distinctive part of the walk. Dozens of huge granite rocks rise from the water, creating one of the most recognizable landscapes on the mainland. The name itself comes from Tupi and means “big stone.” There’s also a famous Florianópolis legend about these rocks: according to local folklore, they are witches who were turned to stone after a forbidden party. 🧙♀️ Coqueiros also has an interesting history. The area became a popular seaside leisure destination for Florianópolis families in the early 20th century, with piers, clubs, restaurants and bathing areas developing along the coast. Today, you can experience the same waterfront at a much slower pace. A few useful things to know: 📍 Coqueiros is on the mainland of Florianópolis, not on Ilha de Santa Catarina. 🚶 The beaches are close enough to explore as a coastal walk, so you don't need to treat them as separate destinations. 🏊 Don't come here expecting Florianópolis’ typical swimming beach experience. Check the current official bathing-water conditions before entering the water. 🍽️ The waterfront is also known for its restaurants, making it easy to turn the walk into a longer afternoon or evening. 🌅 Itaguaçu is especially worth stopping at for the landscape and the views, even if you're not planning to swim. This wasn't one of the famous “must-see” places I had on my list. I simply followed the sea and ended up discovering a completely different side of Florianópolis. The union between modern attractions and nature, famous characters and animals, varied options for all ages, and amazing shows! Immaculate service and everything is working perfectly! In addition to having your own original identity! It would fit very well in Orlando! It positively surprised me in all respects! Congratulations to the park, the staff, the administration, and everyone who has the luck to visit it! We traveled with family and opted for accommodation in Penha/SC for the ease of picking up an Uber and, in 5 minutes, being in the park. The park is fantastic and has attractions for all ages. Everything was very clean and very organized, with very attentive staff and an impeccable landscape. For the Epic Show Hot Wheels, I recommend arriving at least 1 hour in advance; however, the wait is well worth it. A must-see show is also "The Dream of the Cowboy," which tells a very nice story with the protagonist and founder, Beto Carrero. The park is beautiful, the stunning shows, the surreal toys, the permanent exhibition with objects and artifact of Beto Carrero, it is exciting, dealing... As for the values of food and drink, somewhat "salted". Could have drinks spread out to serve those who are lacking, and also more places to recharge the cell phones, only found 2 (with towers included), however insufficient for the quantity of tourists present. (and we went in 2 days).The park staff, wonderful, excellent service, and I would like to highlight the staff of ATENDIMENTO DE GRUPOS, MILLENA and VALÉRIA, which EXCEPCIONAL ATENDIMENTO, in the two days we were in the park with our pax. And to close with a golden key, the ENCERRAMENTO at 19:00h, gave me the feeling that the Beto Carrero Park is our Brazilian Disney!! We'll be back next year.
