A hidden village from a fairy tale, Perca in the Dolomites
During my trip to the Dolomites, I stayed in a small village called Perca. It was a serene place that seemed to have come straight out of a storybook. Unlike the bustling tourist hotspots, this village offered a quiet glimpse into the everyday lives of its residents.
In the morning, the view of the green fields and distant mountains from the window brought a sense of peace, making me think, 'This is what travel is all about.' Walking through the village, I was greeted by a small church, balconies adorned with flowers, and trees swaying in the breeze. Nature’s Sculptures: Earth Pyramids of Ritten
#falladventures
The Earth Pyramids of Ritten are one of South Tyrol’s most fascinating natural wonders. Walking along the scenic trail, I was captivated by these towering clay columns topped with giant stones, each one shaped over centuries by erosion and time. Their unique, almost otherworldly appearance made the landscape feel like a natural art gallery carved by the elements. Surrounded by lush forests and peaceful mountain views, the atmosphere was calming yet awe-inspiring. Standing there, admiring these fragile formations, I felt a deep appreciation for nature’s creativity and patience. The Earth Pyramids are a truly unforgettable stop in the Dolomites.

The earth pyramids are a result of erosion, formed from glacial moraine clay that was deposited during the last Ice Age.
Moraine Clay: The soil, left behind by melting glaciers, becomes rock-hard when dry, but turns into a soft, clayey pulp during rainfall.
Differential Erosion: When large boulders are present in the moraine clay, they act as a protective cap, shielding the earth directly underneath from the rain. The unprotected surrounding soil erodes and is washed away, while the covered portion remains, creating the tall, cone-shaped pillars topped with a rock.

The Earth Pyramids of Ritten (also known as Erdpyramiden am Ritten in German or Piramidi di terra del Renon in Italian) are natural geological formations located on the Ritten plateau near Bolzano in northern Italy. They are considered some of the tallest and most aesthetically pleasing earth pyramids in Europe.
These unique columns are a result of a natural erosion process that began approximately 25,000 years ago from glacial moraine clay left behind by melting glaciers from the last Ice Age. This special moraine clay becomes rock-hard when dry but turns into a mushy slurry when wet and slides down steep hillsides.
