Perfect for meditative photos. 🏜️ The Pinnacles Desert – A slightly surreal park of thousands of limestone pillars sticking out of yellow sand. It looks like the surface of Mars or an ancient city frozen in time. 🌵Umpherston Sinkhole – "Alice's Garden" inside a giant crater. You walk down the stairs into a lush oasis with ivy cascading like a waterfall and flowers that create dreamy shots at sunset. 🪨 Uluru – The legendary red monolith in the heart of the desert. It's not just a rock, it's a sacred site. At sunset, it literally "burns": shifting colors from orange to deep crimson. Which one would you choose for your first trip?

Up close, the Uluru is nothing like what one sees from afar, when the monolith stands as one enormous structure. At the Uluru, one might not readily recognize its color — even the signature rusty red surface felt different — let alone being enclosed within the myriad folds of the rock faces that gives an impression of malleability, like the ruffles of a silky party dress. When viewing the Uluru from within, its morphing rockfaces felt almost feminine. Our first adventure at the Uluru was the Kuniya Walk. Tjukurpa (pronounced “chook-orr-pa”) is a religion-based philosophy encompassing the initial world views, laws and mores for the two aboriginal peoples of Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, together known as the Anangu peoples. It lies at the foundation of Anangu culture. While the westerners call it Dreamtime, the aborigines take offense at the suggestion that the stories are mere myths. For the people hold the Tjukurpa as every bit of their truth as the Bible is for the Christians in the world. At the Kuniya Walk, we learned the details of the aboriginal way of life, seeing some significant rock art, the sacred Mutitjulu Waterhole and hearing fundamental Creation Stories that govern their beliefs. The walk is 1km in distance and there is no climbing at all. On the Kuniya Walk you will be led through many aboriginal rock paintings. A lot of these paintings have survived 5,000 years, but there were also paintings from the 1950s. The science of the durability of the painting is one of age-old practice. The aborigines mix the charcoal and ashes of the desert oak tree, blood, water and oil to make their paintings. The aboriginal children learn at a tender age about the meaning of the paintings, especially how each individual pictorial representation bear what meaning. The paintings often serve as critical indicators that concern survival, especially with regards to water and food sources. Otherwise, they stand as living instructions to the aborigines there. The Anangu peoples express clear disapproval of the word Dreamtime or Dreaming to describe the Tjukurpa. As discussed before, some of these stories have such a sacredness that they cannot be retold to people outside of the tribe. There is explicit instruction on the uluru.gov.au website not to replicate or retell the story of Kuniya, and I shall respect that. Suffice it is to say that Kuniya is a woman that is an Ancestral Being of the Anangu peoples. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest, longest, and most breathtaking coral reef system 🪸. The underwater world is simply unbelievably beautiful! Dive in, and you'll see vibrant corals and colorful tropical fish 🐠, as if entering a colorful dream! Regarded as one of the 8 Wonders of the World, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1981. 3️⃣ Uluru This massive red rock 🪨 is one of Australia's most iconic landmarks. At sunset, its colors continuously shift from orange-red to deep crimson, a sight so beautiful it will take your breath away. At night, the sky is ablaze with stars, making it the ultimate spot for astrophotography. 4️⃣ Whitehaven Beach This dreamy beach is like heaven on earth! This time I want to introduce Uluru, a place in central Australia. I flew from Melbourne to Ayres Rock Airport, and the flight only took about three hours. Seeing the huge rock Uluru on the plane is very different from seeing it on the ground. Only by personal experience can you know how shocking it is. I also can’t imagine how the local indigenous people survived for generations in a vast desert using waterholes and caves under the protection of large rocks formed thousands of years ago. During the three-day trip to Uluru, because I didn’t know how to drive, I rented a car and had a tour guide to explain the whole journey. However, it was the winter off-season, so it became a private tour. The sunrise and sunset scenery at Uluru are very different. The sunrise is orange-red and the sunset is fiery red, which is very special. Unfortunately, Uluru can no longer be climbed due to too many accidents, so we decided to join the Kings Canyon English tour group. Climbing the Valley of the Kings is not easy either. Starting at four in the morning, each person has to carry 2 liters of drinking water up the valley, and has to climb 500 stairs in the desert under the scorching sun before starting the official 4-hour hike. However, the scenery is really unique, and you can see natural rocks and dried fossils, coupled with the beautiful view of the Eden Pool, this trip is especially suitable for those who like mountain climbing. But there are some travel tips I can share with you: 1. It is best to go to Uluru in winter, otherwise you need to wear a mosquito mask to prevent mosquitoes from flying into your mouth 2. You must drink plenty of water and keep it from your body, otherwise you will easily become dehydrated. 3. Some hotels have swimming pools. Don’t make a fuss like me. Although it is a desert, they also have abundant underground water resources. 4. Take adequate sun protection measures, otherwise your skin color will soon become that of the aborigines. 5. The weather is really dry, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is also very large. It is better to apply skin care oil and prepare a coat. 6. Uluru is a place you should definitely visit at least once in your life. I went there without doing any research beforehand, so I'd like to introduce some of my recommended points and things to be careful of. 💐 Recommended! I highly recommend the camel sunrise or sunset tour! ▶︎I took the sunrise tour. The sunrise was fantastic because there was only desert around. ✨ ▶︎When I went, the camel tour included champagne, and after getting off the camel, we moved a little on the bus and enjoyed champagne at a place where you could see Ayers Rock beautifully. 🍾 Cautions ① It's very humid! However, it may have become no different from the midsummer in Japan recently. ▶︎You definitely need 2 liters of water in a plastic bottle! Even if you drink this much, you won't feel like going to the bathroom! It was horribly hot. 💧 💞If you take a tour, there is water under the bus, so you don't have to worry if you run out of water! ▶︎I ran out of water and got heat stroke. 💧 ② Act early! ▶︎I couldn't lock the hotel door, so I had to run and arrive just in time for the tour. It was a lot of trouble, so I should have acted earlier! ③ Don't go to Uluru in the Australian summer! ▶︎I went there without knowing anything, but the moment I got off the plane, there were a ton of flies.
