Travel often brings unexpected encounters. I thought I had missed the misty Xiaodong River at 4:30 AM, but to my surprise, I saw it at 10 AM on a rainy day. Chenzhou is a beautiful city with many scenic spots. Besides the popular Gaoyiling, Xiaodong River Scenic Area is also a must-visit. To help visitors better enjoy the riverside scenery, the scenic area has several walking trails. The most classic route is from Station 3 to Station 4. Walking along the path, you can enjoy the fresh air and the mist floating on the water, creating a dreamy atmosphere. Occasionally, you might even spot some butterflies 🦋 and small animals. Dongjiang Lake is a huge area with tons of things to see, do and explore. When entering you can buy tickets which include bus and boat and rafting tickets. The bus takes you past a dam and to the main area with restaurants and shops. You can then walk to some of the waterfalls and shorter paths. The boat from there takes you to the island after a 20 min cruise where you can do more walks or go into the huge limestone karst cave which you can see in my pictures is truly spectacular. There is an option of white water rafting on the other side of the lake which I didn't try. The cave was the biggest highlight for me, it was cool and damp and the paths lead you up and down and around the maze like cave for about a 20-30 minute walk. There are bats on the ceiling and huge limestone features everywhere lit up by multicoloured lights. It's like an alien world and something that no pictures do justice. The cave is very large and at the end of the path you can buy souvenirs. In dongjiang lake I would recommend trying some local small spicy fish snacks. #mountainview #staycation

It is located downstream of Dongjiang Lake, from the entrance of the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area to the Dongjiang Dam, with a total length of about 12 km. The water temperature of the Xiaodong River remains at 8–10°C all year round. From April to October, the temperature difference creates layers of mist on the river, making it look like a fairyland! It's the best place to take pictures, sometimes they cast nets every 15 minutes, sometimes every 30 minutes. Then you can walk along the river to the next viewing platform, the air is very good, and the environment is also refreshing. The last viewing point also has waterfalls, but they are all small waterfalls, if you like, you can walk around and take pictures, the last viewing point has a lot of food shops, but there is nothing particularly amazing, the grilled fish is not bad.
