📸 Fotografiska Shanghai is a museum that, for some reason, flies under the radar. If you're looking to step off the beaten path and add something a bit more intellectual and unique to your trip, you should definitely check out Fotografiska Shanghai. I came here specifically for the exhibition featuring the legendary photographer Vivian Maier. Seeing her work in person has been on my bucket list for a long time, so the slightly steep ticket price didn't deter me. However, if you're planning a visit, make sure to check their schedule beforehand to see what exhibitions are running during your dates. The displays change regularly, and your experience here will heavily depend on the current lineup. What I loved: ✔ Multiple floors of exhibition spaces showcasing contemporary photography projects. ✔ Brilliant spatial design. Even if contemporary photography isn't really your jam, the museum is just a joy to wander through. It’s packed with creative visual elements, playing with light, mirrors, and spatial architecture. Some areas feel like art installations in themselves and are perfect for snapping some unique photos. ✔ A super chic museum shop on the ground floor. It’s not exactly cheap, but it offers a fantastic selection of rare books, home decor, and souvenirs you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. ✔ A highly atmospheric cafe and restaurant. Even if you skip the exhibitions, it's worth dropping by just to soak up the vibe and admire the interior. ✔ The rooftop terrace. Don't skip this! It offers a lovely view of the city and is the perfect spot to kick back with a cup of coffee after a walk. The museum itself is situated right by the Suzhou Creek waterfront. I incorporated it into a massive walking route: 1000 Trees → M50 Art District → Fotografiska. The itinerary was fantastic, but the distances between the spots were way longer than they looked on the map. If I had to do it all over again, I’d definitely grab a bike or hop in a cab between M50 and the museum. The Fotografiska Photography Art Center in Shanghai is a paradise for photography enthusiasts and art lovers. Nestled by the Suzhou River, this new artistic landmark combines industrial-style architecture with Nordic minimalism, making every corner a perfect photo spot with a natural high-end filter. The building exudes a sense of history. The first floor features creative products and a charming café. I visited with my son, and he was so engrossed in looking at fridge magnets and other small items that he didn’t bother me at all. As someone who loves rings, I felt like I had entered a ring paradise! Trust me, it’s impossible to leave empty-handed. While some items are slightly pricey, their quality and texture are truly worth it. On the left side of the first floor is the café, while the right side houses a Western restaurant, both operated by the same company. The atmosphere here is incredibly comfortable, with a touch of artistic flair. The open and bright space makes you want to stay forever once you sit down. 💐The weekend in the Magic City finally cleared up, with bright sunshine, so I went to the citywalk by the Suzhou River. I passed by the Fotografiska Center of Photography and went in for a visit, and it was truly stunning! 🌈On the second floor of the Fotografiska Center of Photography, there's a newly opened retrospective exhibition of the French photography master Elliott Erwitt - 'Adventures in Photography'! It offers a perspective into the soul of the city and explores human emotions! 🌸Under the strong Swedish color scheme, one can fully experience the French romanticism. I spent a few days exploring Shanghai, and here are the places that stood out the most. 📍 Nanjing Road Nanjing Road is one of those famous shopping streets that almost every major city has—a place where people walk around, shop, and enjoy the atmosphere. If you’re already nearby, it’s worth visiting. However, if you only have 4–5 days in Shanghai, I would personally prioritize some of the city’s more unique attractions first. That said, if shopping is on your list, this is a great place to find large malls and authentic international brands. 🌃 The Bund I visited The Bund during the day, but I highly recommend going at night instead. The skyline is absolutely breathtaking once the city lights come on. I’m sharing some of my favorite photos from there because the view truly deserves it. The streets around Nanjing Road were also some of my favorite places for photography. Every corner felt cinematic. If you’ve always dreamed of visiting New York because of its big-city energy, I honestly think Shanghai deserves a place on your list too. It has the same vibrant metropolitan feeling, but with a calmer atmosphere, beautiful parks, countless cafés, and incredible city views. 🏮 Yu Garden I’ll make a separate post about Yu Garden because it deserves one. Around the garden you’ll find beautiful temples, narrow streets filled with local street food, and plenty of traditional Chinese culture. There are also many studios where you can rent traditional Hanfu clothing, have your makeup professionally done, and enjoy a themed photoshoot. You can even take pictures with people dressed in elaborate cosplay costumes. Overall, I definitely recommend visiting Yu Garden. 📸 Fotografiska Shanghai I’ve already shared a separate post about Fotografiska, but it was another highlight of my trip. It’s much more than an art museum—it combines exhibitions, a café, and a restaurant in a beautifully designed space. During my visit there was also a small creative market where local artists and small businesses were selling handmade products, which made the experience even more enjoyable. What surprised me most was how reasonable the prices were, especially considering the location and the quality of the venue. 🌿 The Greenhouse Shanghai This place completely exceeded my expectations. I’ve already posted about it, but I took dozens of photos because every corner looked incredible. The entire venue feels like several different worlds inside one building. With a single ticket, you can explore all of them—from exotic tropical plants to beautifully designed caves and immersive themed spaces. I genuinely spent so much time simply looking around in amazement. 🍸 Rooftop Bars Finally, don’t leave Shanghai without visiting one of its rooftop cocktail bars. Whether it’s on the 35th, 40th, or even the 50th floor, the nighttime views over the city are unforgettable. Watching Shanghai light up from above was one of my favorite experiences of the trip. Recently, I discovered a treasure route from Wutong District brunch to the Suzhou River "Blue Hour," featuring not only delicious food and coffee but also stunning river views and historic buildings. Every step hits my aesthetic point. Today, I’m sharing this route with you all—quickly save it and go check it out! 1. Wei Huang Guangfu and Small Seafood (11:10) First stop, fill your stomach! This place is hidden in an old Western-style house with a super stylish atmosphere. I recommend the signature small seafood platter—fresh and flavorful—paired with a chilled beer to start the perfect day. After eating, you can take some vintage-style photos in the courtyard; the photo quality is amazing! 2. Captain George Flavor Museum (12:20) Just a few minutes’ walk to this uniquely charming museum! It houses various vintage tableware and old items, like stepping back in time. There’s also a coffee area inside—order a hand-brewed coffee, sit by the window, watch people pass by, and feel Shanghai’s slow life. #chinaadventures If you’re visiting Shanghai for two days, I highly recommend making your first day more cultural and artistic. Start your day with an exhibition at Fotografiska Shanghai. It felt very special and touching to me - a great place to slow down and connect with contemporary photography and storytelling. After that, take the metro (MRT) to M50 Art District. This area is full of different galleries showcasing local and international artists. Many galleries are free to enter, and there are also cozy cafés and a canteen where you can take a short break. The whole district has a very relaxed and creative atmosphere. From M50, you can walk to the 1000 Trees Shopping Center. It’s a very picturesque place and perfect for photos. On the 0 floor, you can even get a free printed photo. The only condition is to post photos from the location on TikTok or YouTube and add the hashtag #1000trees . I was also lucky enough to accidentally meet a photographer working there who took photos for free. Later in the day, head to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to take some photos. The embankment (The Bund area) is very close, so you can enjoy a nice walk with great views of the city. Finish your day in Lujiazui District, where you’ll find Shanghai’s iconic skyscrapers: Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center. #September Good Places 2025 I was rushing to the Fotografiska Image Arts Center for the art exhibition, but when I entered the first floor, I was "kept" by the art surroundings! There are so many art selections, even the artist's paintings can be bought. I was dazzled by the selection, and I was itching to take a few home with me The most amazing thing is that it not only has an exhibition, but also a coffee shop, open-air bar and bistro restaurant, and a Gelato ice cream shop 🍦 at the exit! Even if you don't see the exhibition, come here on the weekend to relax, have a cup of coffee, eat a snack, and slowly stroll around. The afternoon will pass quickly and you won't feel bored at all. Other highlights include the Sihang Warehouse and Renmin Café. You can also stop by JK1933 or Suhe Haosi (make sure to check for exhibition updates as some might be temporarily closed). Then, pass through Shen Yu Li and Suhewan MixC World, visit Tianhou Temple and the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce site to feel the historical vibe. At New Art Flower Market, you can buy a bouquet to complement your photos. The Postal Museum’s architecture is incredibly unique.
