A Journey Through Korean Railways with Trip.com

Using Trip.com, I enjoyed a leisurely railway trip through Korea. From Seoul to Gangneung by KTX-EUM. Stayed overnight in Gangneung, then took the morning Nuriro train to Jeongdongjin Station. The scenic ride offered views of a beautiful coastline and imposing barbed wire fences, leading to a picturesque seaside station with magnificent pines and pristine white sandy beaches. I was also able to purchase a commemorative admission ticket. From Jeongdongjin, I took the KTX-EUM to Donghae. With a transfer time of just under an hour, I crossed the wide station premises via an internal crossing. From Donghae, I boarded the Mugunghwa train bound for Dongdaegu, a 4-hour and 10-minute journey by passenger train. The ride offered views of mountains adorned with autumn leaves and beautiful rivers. The train also stopped at Yangwon Station, known as one of Korea's most secluded stations. If you take this train, you can stay for just under an hour and then catch the Mugunghwa train from Busan to Donghae. I would love to visit again. Due to a non-electrified section, the locomotive was switched from electric to diesel at Yeongju. The diesel locomotive sped through the long tunnels of the new line with a roar, an experience not easily found on Japan's narrow-gauge conventional lines. Eventually, the train diverged from the new line and ran through tranquil landscapes, arriving at Hwabong Station. Although there were hardly any passengers getting on or off the train, the platform was crowded with tourists. Nearby, there's a popular tourist spot that repurposes an old school, attracting visitors who come by car. Hwabong Station, known as Korea's most beautiful simple station with its towering water tower, will soon be closed due to the switch to a double-track electrified new line. I'm glad I visited while it was still in operation. I was also able to purchase a commemorative admission ticket. As the sun set and it grew dark, I returned to Seoul on the Mugunghwa train bound for Cheongnyangni. Although it was a short trip, I was able to enjoy a convenient railway journey through Korea. Korean railways can be easily booked through Trip.com, where you can choose your preferred seat and direction using a seat map. It's very convenient. By taking advantage of special offers, you can also cancel reservations without any cost due to sudden changes, making railway travel in Korea, China, and Europe more accessible. (I bought the Nuriro train ticket at the counter.)

It is a magnificent landscape that is hard to find on the Korean coast and has been a representative scenic spot of Geoje City since ancient times, also being the oldest sunrise sightseeing spot. 🛬【Travel Tips】: There are two routes from Haegeumgang Cruise Terminal to Haegeumgang. Route 1 is Oedo-Haegeumgang, and Route 2 is Haegeumgang-Dabido. Due to the large number of people entering Oedo on Route 1, the boat is larger and does not go to every corner of Haegeumgang but just circles around. If you want to truly tour Haegeumgang, the Dabido route is recommended. Gangneung Bawoo-gil is a trekking course with a total length of 350 km, connecting the East Sea from Baekdudaegan centered around the Gangneung area, including Gyeongpo (鏡浦) and Jeongdongjin (正東津). It consists of 16 sections of Gangneung Bawoo-gil, 2 sections of Daegwallyeong Bawoo-gil [Daegwallyeong National Forest Trail, Daegwallyeong Snow Flower Village Trail], Ultra Bawoo-gil, and Valley Bawoo-gil. 'Bawoo' refers to rocks in the Gangwon Province dialect, and thus 'Bawoo-gil' is a term affectionately used to describe the trekking course centered around Gangneung. Additionally, the name 'Bawoo-gil' was inspired by the goddess 'Bau' from Babylonian mythology, who could heal serious illnesses with just a single touch, expressing the hope that everyone who walks this path will become healthy.

There are three places where you can swim at Jeongdongjin: the sea in front of Jeongdongjin Station, the sea in front of the Hourglass Park, and the sea where the Jeongdongjin breakwater is located. The beaches that are wide and easy to use are the one in front of Jeongdongjin Station and the sea in front of Hourglass Park. The Hourglass Park illuminates day and night, and to the south, there is a tourist attraction with the Sculpture (Sunrise) Park and the Hwunhwaro. In particular, in front of Jeongdongjin Station, there are many rocks where you can pick clams, mussels, seaweed, and sea urchins, which is why many people visit. Since the operation of the Jeongdongjin Sunrise Tourist Train in 1997, it has rapidly become popular, and tourists flock there all summer long.

Jeongdongjin Beach

#koreatrip After all the hours of walking and seeing at other sightseeing spots in Korea, naturally, this beach was a breather. For relaxing and unwinding, plus, water playing and taking pictures. Quite a nice place. Otherwise, there's nothing much to do. You can see a ship on the hill! This place can arrives by public transportation but you might have a long wait between Gangneung station and Jeongdongjin station. If you live in other cities like seoul and planning for one day trip then suggest I you have a look on the train schedule or you might back to seoul in the midnight or even no train back to Seoul.

Zhengdongjin Grand Ship Hotel

Zhengdongjin Grand Ship Hotel This is my third visit to Zhengdongjin. Today is overcast, but it still can't hide the beauty of Zhengdongjin. I've seen this grand ship hotel three times now, but never entered. Today, I'm finally going in. The hotel's park environment is very nice, facing the sea and backed by mountains. The air quality is excellent. The balcony is also great. The hotel's restaurant windows are quite dirty, and the food is just so-so. There isn't much to do in the hotel, but it's nice for a relaxing walk or a holiday stroll. The service attitude is just average. The main attractions are the good air quality and the beautiful sea, and that's enough. The luckiest thing today is that I succeeded in tossing a coin into the wishing well haha, so happy. Also, an important point, maybe because the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday is coming up, there are hardly any people here at this time, super quiet.
