The Shwesandaw Pagoda is an ancient stupa situated in the heart of Pyay. Built in 589 BE (making it nearly 2,000 years old), it enshrines the sacred hair relics of Gautama Buddha. The main pagoda rises 39 meters from its base and is surrounded by 64 smaller satellite stupas. Perched on a gentle hill, its total height reaches an impressive 88 meters from ground level to the pinnacle. This elevated position allows the magnificent Shwesandaw Pagoda to stand out gracefully, making it visible from every corner of the city. Historically, the Shwesandaw Pagoda was revered as one of the Five Great Pilgrimage Sites according to traditional Burmese beliefs. It held the same level of prestige as the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the Shwemawdaw Pagoda in Bago, and the Shwezigon Pagoda in Bagan. In modern times, however, its prominence has somewhat faded, with its revered status eventually being overshadowed by the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (the Golden Rock). Interestingly, because Kyaiktiyo is located in Mon territory, it did not hold as much significance for the Bamar people during ancient times. There is also a museum-like building on the premises offering free admission, where you can admire stunning antique Buddha statues and breathtaking intricate carvings.

Akauk Taung, also known as Customs Cliff, historically served as the dividing line between northern and southern Myanmar. After the British took control of southern Myanmar, they established a tax checkpoint here, restricting boats from traveling further south. Fearing harm from British soldiers, boatmen carved Buddha images into the cliff face for moral support and protection, as well as to ward off evil spirits. "Akauk Taung" features Buddha carvings along the cliffs of the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady) River, located in the Bago Region between the towns of Pandaung and Pyay. Scholars estimate that these carvings began around 443 to 1383 BE (approx. 100 BC – 840 AD) during the Pyu city-states period (Sri Ksetra Kingdom) and continued through the Bagan, Taungoo, Inwa, and Mandalay eras. Today, Akauk Taung is a popular tourist destination in Pyay. Legend has it that the British collected massive amounts of taxes but couldn't take all the treasure with them because the spirits of the deceased fiercely protected it. This has given rise to a modern-day belief that anyone who prays for good fortune at this golden rock will be blessed with wealth.

Pyay (PYAY), or Prome, is a city in the Bago (Hanthawaddy) Region of Myanmar. Located on the alluvial plains of the Irrawaddy River, it lies 260 kilometers northwest of Yangon. Historically, Pyay has been the center of the Pyu people's Sri Ksetra Kingdom since the 1st century AD. It served as a major commercial hub due to its easy access to the sea. The Sri Ksetra Kingdom (Sri Ksetra or Thayekhittaya) is an ancient Pyu kingdom dating back around 1,200 years. "Sri Ksetra" is a Pyu name that translates to "The Land of Good Fortune." The Sri Ksetra Ancient City Museum is located in Hmawza Village, approximately 8 kilometers southeast of downtown Pyay. It exhibits over 265 artifacts from the ancient city of Sri Ksetra, recognized by UNESCO as one of the three Pyu Ancient Cities World Heritage sites. The museum showcases Buddha statues, coins, and pottery, reflecting a magnificent and prosperous Buddhist civilization of the past.

This ancient archaeological site was once the settlement of the Pyu Civilization, one of the earliest kingdoms in Myanmar (earlier than Bagan). The site is recognized by UNESCO. From what I have observed from the architecture of the temples in this site, I can guess that Bagan architects had borrowed the styles from this ancient civilization. There aren’t as many temples as you would find in Bagan, but each place has its own distinctions. For instance, there aren’t a lot of tourists at this place, and very few people know about this place. Literally, you might be the only wanderer on the site at any given time, which can get creepy sometimes, because there are ancient burial sites too. There is a museum showcasing Artifacts from the archaeological site. They are very well preserved and equally interesting. You can find burial urns, sculptures of gods, and jewelry. If you are on a river cruise from Yangon to Mandalay, or vice versa. Be sure to stop by this place. If not, you might consider visiting the more popular Bagan. Transportation/Accommodation - the closest city is Pyay. There are pretty good hotels and worthy attractions in Pyay. 2 days/one 1night would be perfect to visit both places. Across the Ayeyarwaddy River on the western bank near Htone-Bo, there is a place of attraction called Akauk Taung (a toll-hill). At the end of the Second Anglo-Burmese war, Myanmar and British toll-posts were situated on Akauk Taung, a toll-hill in the Myanmar language side by side. All boatmen had to pay tax to both posts. All sailing boats anchored close by the hill and waited till, occasionally, a week-long whirlpool ceased. The sailors prayed to God by carving Buddha images on the cliffside during that period. The mountain was named for the crafty toll-takers from the mid-19th Century. This trip will reveal one of the world's heritage sites of Myanmar and the spectacular site of countless Buddha Images on the wall of the Ayeyarwaddy River bank. Shundao Village is located more than ten kilometers away from the suburbs of Beifang. In the village next to the town, there are several scenic countryside and a beautiful Buddhist temple. Here, the flow of time is particularly slow. A vivid and interesting picture of the countryside, spread out around the town of Shundao.

Walk into Cinda, walk into the bleak beautiful village and walk into the long river of Myanmar's history. Cinda is an open, oval-shaped city that was once ruled by the mysterious country of 1500 years ago. The only means of transportation here is to take a cart or walk. People here live a simple and happy life, always filled with endless joy.

Among the several sites in Cinda, the 46-meter-long cylindrical stupa baby jade is the most attractive attraction. Looking up at the tall stupa and the plains behind it, it is like entering the long history of Myanmar. Into this stupa, you can also see the glorious history of the ancient Shu Kingdom, which is awe-inspiring.

In the village of Cindaya, there is a very interesting Wanfo Village. The villagers use their endless imagination to create clay sculptures of different shapes and forms. The piety of these Buddhists and the wisdom of the working people are extremely admirable. Here, you can feel the great power from faith and the good wishes people want to live with peace.

You are the messenger of peace, marrying the bridge of friendship between the Burmese and the Mon people; you are the great Ruishan Tuo, the fireworks that will never be annihilated in people's hearts. Compared to the famous Yangon Shwedagon Pagoda, the name of Ruishan Tu is rarely known. However, this stupa is actually one meter higher than the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. The two golden umbrellas at the top of the stupa symbolize the peace between the Burmese and Mon people.
