Rabat offers an incredibly laid-back contrast to the chaos of Marrakech or Fes. Walking down the massive stone stairways along the fortified walls or looking out over the Atlantic Ocean and the Bou Regreg river with traditional fishing boats floating below, you get a perfect mix of ancient imperial history, coastal breeze, and serene street art vibes. If you're planning a trip here, local insight makes all the difference! First off, ditch the rush and wander through the Kasbah on foot early in the morning or near sunset when the warm light hits the sandstone ramparts. Pop into a traditional cliffside café for fresh mint tea and local almond pastries while taking in views of the river mouth. Unlike other Moroccan destinations, Rabat’s UNESCO-listed Old Medina is remarkably relaxed and authentic, meaning shopkeepers won't aggressively push you to buy rugs or leather goods, though friendly bargaining is still welcome if you do. For a quiet escape right in the middle of the city, wander into the Andalusian Gardens hidden inside the Kasbah walls. When it comes to your travel wallet, Rabat is wonderfully budget-friendly and gives you serious bang for your buck! Major iconic sites like the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas with its gardens are completely free to enter. If you want to check out paid historical sites like the Chellah Necropolis or the National Jewellery Museum, expect ticket fees around 60 to 70 MAD (~$6–$7 USD). Daily expenses stay low too: cozy traditional riads or budget hotels cost around $40–$70 USD a night, street snacks like fresh orange juice or warm makouda cost under $2 USD, and a full tagine dinner at a local spot sits around $8–$15 USD. Getting around is equally cheap—trams and local red petit taxis around town usually cost just $1–$3 USD per ride. #Rabat #VisitMorocco #KasbahOfTheUdayas #HassanTower #TravelMorocco #ExploreMorocco #MoroccanArchitecture #HiddenGems #CulturalTravel #Wanderlust

Some destinations are like durian—those who love it, really love it, and those who don't, stay as far away as possible—North Africa seems to be just that kind of place! Sasha spent ten days road-tripping through Morocco and unexpectedly discovered that this North African kaleidoscope was truly surprising, shattering many of my prejudices. Starting with the French-style old dreams of Casablanca, we drove clockwise, from the capital Rabat to Tangier, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea; then heading south, we experienced the charm of the White City, Tétouan, and felt the blue fantasy in the Blue City, Chefchaouen; we saw the 2,000-year-old Roman ruins at the Volubilis site; in Fes, we caught a whiff of the "stinky city's" unique scent; and finally, in Marrakech, we got lost in the artistic atmosphere of the Red City. After watching these three minutes, leave a comment and tell us if this is your cup of tea!

Picture this: narrow winding alleys, snow-white walls, sky-blue doors, the scent of fresh mint, and the boundless Atlantic Ocean stretching out beyond the walls of an ancient fortress… 🌊💙 Welcome to the Kasbah of the Udayas—one of Rabat’s most atmospheric spots and a true Moroccan gem. 🏰 The Kasbah of the Udayas is a historic fortress built on the shores of the Atlantic. Today, it’s a picturesque labyrinth of streets where you’ll want to stop and take it all in at every single step. 💙 The blue and white houses are the signature of the Kasbah. It’s almost impossible to take a bad photo here: the blue doors, vibrant flowers, and whitewashed walls create the ultimate Moroccan backdrop 📸 🌊 The observation decks offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Bou Regreg River. It’s particularly magical at sunset when the whole area is bathed in golden hues. 🌿 The Andalusian Garden is a small green oasis inside the Kasbah, providing a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. ☕ And, of course, you must try the traditional Moroccan mint tea. Sitting back with a hot cup, gazing at the ocean, and listening to the sound of the waves is easily one of the best ways to soak up the vibe of Rabat. 📸 Pro tip: Arrive in the morning if you want to wander the streets in peace and snap photos without the crowds. For a romantic atmosphere, head there just before sunset 🌅 ✨ The Kasbah of the Udayas is the kind of place where you’ll want to get lost. Don’t be in a rush to find the exit—just wander the blue-hued streets, peek into the courtyards, and enjoy every turn. 📍 Kasbah of the Udayas, Rabat, Morocco 🇲🇦 💙 Save this location—and be sure to include the Kasbah of the Udayas in your Rabat itinerary! Would you love to explore these incredibly beautiful blue streets? ✈️🇲🇦

Some places don't need massive scale to impress; their beauty lies in the intricate details. The Mausoleum of Mohammed V, one of Rabat's premier landmarks, is exactly that kind of place. 👑 Located right next to the majestic Hassan Tower, this mausoleum is widely regarded as a masterpiece of modern Moroccan architecture. ✨ What makes it so special? 🤍 The gleaming white facade, the iconic green-tiled roof, and the elaborately decorated entrance showcase the quintessential Moroccan style. 🟢 That specific green on the roof isn't accidental—it holds deep significance within Moroccan royal tradition. 🕌 The interior houses the tombs of King Mohammed V and his sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. 🎨 The craftsmanship here is stunning: look for the traditional zellij mosaics, delicate stone carvings, and ornate arches. Every single detail was executed with breathtaking precision. 🏛️ The mausoleum opens onto a vast square dominated by the Hassan Tower. Together, they form one of Rabat’s most iconic architectural ensembles. 📸 Pro Tip: Take your time to walk around the entire structure. The way the white marble contrasts with the green roof and the bright blue sky is a photographer's dream. 💫 The Mausoleum of Mohammed V is a place where history, culture, and art converge. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting Rabat. 📍 Rabat, Morocco 🇲🇦 ✨ Save this spot for your next Moroccan adventure and make sure it’s on your Rabat itinerary!

In the heart of Rabat lies a place that transports you to another era—the Royal Palace of Morocco (Dar al-Makhzen) 🤍 This is the official residence of the King of Morocco, set amidst spacious grounds with gardens and traditional Moroccan architecture. The palace itself is closed to tourists, but its outer gates and the square in front of them are impressive in their beauty and grandeur. ✨ What's worth seeing here? 🚪 The palace's main gate is a true masterpiece of Moroccan art. Zellige mosaics, carved details, and traditional ornaments create a luxurious entrance worthy of a royal residence. 🏛️ Mechouar Square is a vast open space in front of the palace, where the scale of the complex is particularly evident. 🌿 The gardens and grounds of the palace—neat green spaces—contrast beautifully with the white, gold, and green elements of Moroccan architecture. 📸 For photographs, it's best to pay attention to the gate details and decorative elements—they truly reveal the beauty of traditional Moroccan style. 💡 Good to know: Tourists are generally not allowed inside the Royal Palace, so a visit should be viewed as an opportunity to see the architecture and atmosphere of the royal capital from the outside. After a stroll through the palace square, you can explore further Rabat—to the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, or the Kasbah of the Udays. 👑 The Royal Palace is more than just a beautiful building. It is a symbol of the modern Moroccan monarchy and a part of the history of Rabat, a city where tradition and modernity surprisingly coexist. 📍 Dar al-Makhzen, Rabat, Morocco 🇲🇦 #rabatmorocco #rabat #morocco #moroccotravel #palace #africa #moroccanarchitecture

Here, you want to take your time, just stroll and enjoy the atmosphere 🌊☀️ ✨ What to see in Rabat? 🏰 The Kasbah of the Udayas is one of the most atmospheric places in the city. When people talk about Morocco, bustling Marrakech or business-centric Casablanca usually come to mind. Rabat often stays in the shadows—and completely undeservedly so. It’s a tranquil, green, and incredibly photogenic capital on the Atlantic coast that deserves your attention more than ever in 2026. UNESCO has recognized Rabat as a "modern capital and historic city," and in 2026, it also holds the prestigious title of UNESCO World Book Capital. · -- 📍 Must-See Spots 🗼 Hassan Tower – The city's iconic landmark. This 800-year-old minaret was supposed to be part of the largest mosque in the world, but construction halted after the sultan's death. The best time for photos is from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, when the sun beautifully reflects off the ancient walls. 🕌 Mausoleum of Mohammed V – The majestic tomb of Morocco's most beloved king. The blend of traditional Islamic aesthetics and modern architecture is truly impressive. Nearby, you can see the honor guard—a sight well worth your attention. 🏰 Kasbah of the Udayas – Rabat's oldest district, a true fairytale town in blue and white tones, reminiscent of Chefchaouen. Narrow streets lead to stunning views of the Atlantic. Be sure to check out the Andalusian Gardens—a peaceful oasis inside the fortress—and then grab some mint tea at a cafe overlooking the ocean. 🏛️ Chellah – A "city beneath a city," this ancient archaeological complex is where Roman and Islamic ruins peacefully coexist among lush gardens and stork nests. 🎭 Modern Rabat – The Grand Theatre designed by Zaha Hadid (the largest theater on the continent) and the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Meanwhile, the Mohammed VI Tower in neighboring Salé offers a fantastic panoramic view from its observation deck. 🛍️ Rabat Medina – Unlike the tourist-packed medinas of Marrakech and Fes, this one is calm and authentic. Rue des Consuls is a shopping paradise for souvenirs and famous red Rbati carpets. · -- 🌊 What Else to Do · Take a stroll along the Corniche promenade and catch the sunset · Lounge on Rabat's golden sand beach · Attend the Mawazine Festival – a world-class free music event that draws millions of visitors every summer · Check out the street art at the Jidar Street Art Festival · -- 🤔 Is It Worth Visiting? Rabat is known as Morocco's "chill capital"—it's quieter, cleaner, and more organized than Casablanca. The city is perfectly suited for walking, and you'll hardly find any pushy touts here compared to Marrakech. Plus, the locals are incredibly friendly. One traveler shared: "I spent three wonderful days in Rabat... The city surprised me with its perfect balance of history, culture, ocean views, and a laid-back vibe." We spent ages planning our trip, carefully handpicking every single spot to visit! We wanted to listen to the crashing waves of the Atlantic, soak up the vibrant local vibes in the Atlas Mountains, and enjoy dinner in a Berber village at sunset in the desert. ✈️ We flew into Casablanca and checked into our hotel. Pro tip: stay in the Maarif district—it's the city's liveliest, trendiest, and most central neighborhood. It makes getting to all the landmarks a breeze, whether by taxi or on foot. 🔸Day 1: Casablanca - The largest city in Morocco, often treated as just a layover spot by travelers. But trust me, there's plenty to see here. 📍What to see: Hassan II Mosque, El Hank Lighthouse, the Corniche promenade, Arab League Park, Mohammed V Square (where you'll find the giant 'Casablanca' sign for a photo op), the Medina and its vibrant markets, including the seafood market. You absolutely have to try the fresh oysters—locals sell huge ones right on the street downtown for just 10 dirhams a pop! The city has a really unique vibe and feels incredibly diverse—especially when you explore it on foot! 🔸Day 2: Rabat - Morocco’s capital. Compared to Casablanca, it's so much calmer, cleaner, and more organized! I absolutely loved this town and its laid-back rhythm. Wandering through the old Medina is pure bliss, soaking in the charming, narrow streets painted in striking blue and white. 📍What to see: We took the high-speed train from Casablanca and started exploring on foot. There’s some amazing street art on the buildings along the way to Nouzhat Hassan Garden. Next up were Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V—the city's crown jewels of architecture. You should also stroll through the Medina and the Salé neighborhood. And Kasbah of the Udayas? Totally mind-blowing! It’s an ancient citadel right in Rabat, boasting stunning Moorish architecture from the Almohad era. Don't miss a walk along the Rabat Corniche to watch the locals cliff-jumping off the citadel walls into the water). 🔸Days 3-4: Tangier - A historically rich city sitting right at the gateway to Europe. Fun fact: you can actually see the coast of Spain perfectly from the city’s promenade! It’s surreal! This town is fascinating, boasting a totally different flavor and architectural aesthetic. Honestly, it barely feels like Morocco. By this point, we’d picked up a rental car, met up with friends, and made a beeline for Paradise Beach Kaf Lahmam. 📍What to see: A trip to Cape Spartel is a must. Climb to the top of the lighthouse (hold onto your hat, the wind is no joke up there)—this is the northwesternmost tip of Africa where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. It’s breathtaking. If you have time, check out the Caves of Hercules, a mythic spot with epic views. (Though, full disclosure, it felt a bit too touristy for our taste). The city itself deserves a shoutout because the boutique accommodations here are one-of-a-kind. Definitely book a place with a rooftop terrace—the views are to die for. 🔸Day 5: Chefchaouen (Chaouen) — Hands down one of the most picturesque spots in Morocco. This is the iconic "Blue Pearl," completely drenched in azure tones. After wandering the streets, you’ll look up and swear the sky itself looks a little less blue by comparison!) 📍What to see: Spend your morning just getting lost in the maze of its narrow alleyways. The whole town is an absolute photographer's dream. Every few steps in the old Medina, locals will offer you access to cute little photo sets they’ve created just for tourists, usually for about 10 dirhams. It’s basically snap-snap-snap everywhere you look. 🔸Day 6: Heading to Fes. This is the longest drive of the trip, taking around 4-5 hours. You can break up the journey with stops at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis and the city of Meknes. Meknes is famous for its excellent gray wine, and the city itself is well worth exploring. Fes is Morocco's spiritual and cultural heartbeat, famous for its sprawling medieval Medina packed with an endless maze of streets and alleys! Your head will literally spin, so brace yourself. 📍What to see in Fes: Block out an entire day to tackle the Fes Medina—one of the largest urban labyrinths on the planet. The absolute highlight is checking out the ancient Chouara Tanneries to see a leather-making process that hasn't changed in centuries. And yes, this is where everyone gets those iconic photos, but expect to tip for the view! Fair warning: the smell is pretty intense since the tanning techniques are genuinely medieval. But it’s a totally unique spectacle and 100% worth it. Pro tip: This place is incredibly easy to get lost in. Be ready for pushy "helpers" offering to guide you for cash. We opted to hire an official guide and spent about 6 hours touring the city as a group. 🔸Days 7-8: Marrakech (via the Atlas Mountains and Ait Benhaddou). Brace yourself—this will be the most action-packed and visually stunning day of the trip. Head out from Fes bright and early. · Atlas Mountains: The drive south winds through the Tizi n'Tichka pass (sitting at 2,260 m) and dishes up jaw-dropping panoramic views - the journey can take about 8 hours with stops . 📍What to see in Marrakech: The most tourist-heavy, high-voltage city in Morocco! It’s pure chaos and noise, with everyone hustling and trying to sell something to someone! : Here you need to immerse yourself in the chaos and colors of the medina, visit the buzzing Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the opulent Bahia Palace and the ruins of El Badi Palace . You can also pop over to the Mellah (the historic Jewish quarter). 🔸Day 9: Atlas Mountains and Agafay Desert A One-Day Adventure: This is the perfect way to experience Morocco's striking natural contrasts all in a single day. 📍What to see: Atlas Mountains: Drive out to the foothills, for example, to Imlil village — the "gateway" to Toubkal National Park. You'll get to see traditional Berber villages, sweeping mountain vistas, and hike out to some local waterfalls . Agafay Desert: Just 30 km outside of Marrakech, you'll find a rocky desert dotted with white dunes that gives off major Sahara vibes. It’s the perfect place for a short camel trek to catch a stunning desert sunset. 🔸Day 10: Back to Casablanca. Hotel with a Pool. · This is your downtime day. The drive isn't too long, so use this time to soak up the ocean views and decompress from all the noise and hustle! We took a detour through the coastal town of Essaouira, though we ran out of time to hit up the resort city of Agadir. Maybe next time. Plan your time carefully, as the driving distances are pretty hefty overall. You want to make sure you aren't rushing! You can't pack everything into just one post, so I’ll be dropping more content soon covering specific cities, the food scene, and local quirks 🥘 🐫 🦪 stay tuned for new posts! 💡 Essential Road Trip Tips · Rentals and Roads: The highways connecting major cities are solid, and there are toll roads available. However, absolute chaos reigns in the cities; traffic laws are frequently ignored, especially in Marrakech and Fes . Consider renting an all-wheel-drive vehicle, especially if you're planning on tackling the mountains or the desert. · Safety: Avoid driving at night, particularly on winding mountain passes . Also, use extreme caution during rain or snow (up in the passes), as roads can shut down without much warning . · Parking: Trying to park in the Medinas (old towns) is a massive headache. Your best bet is to leave your car in a secure parking lot near your hotel and rely on taxis to navigate the city . Speed cameras and cops are literally everywhere on the roads, especially right before toll booths—we actually snagged a few speeding tickets ourselves. Fines run anywhere from 150 to 400 dirhams. So seriously, stick to the speed limit strictly! This itinerary ties together Morocco's greatest hits, giving you the ultimate cross-section of the country—from the crashing ocean surf to soaring mountain peaks and rugged deserts. Have an amazing trip, and I hope my guide helps you out!

Ladies and gentlemen! Let me introduce you to the absolutely lovely Riad in the centre of Old Town in Rabat 😁 💥As you see by the pics it is mostly made in calm, pastel colours. The rooms are quite small , but still very convenient for 2 people. If you are travelling alone then it’s definitely a perfect match. On the first floor there is a decorative swimming pool and a breakfast area. There is no traditional reception and just a few rooms, so this place can be called your home in Rabat really! ☄️To have a complete moroccan experience, they serve a traditional handmade breakfast. You get fresh orange juice, moroccan tea, variety of breads, olives, eggs, fresh fruits, and a absolutely incredible mix of different appetisers like harissa or amlou. Yum 😋 The location is perfect. You are in the old town but it never was loud. 20 minutes walk and you on the ocean coast. Train station is about 20-25 minutes by taxi. To get a taxi you walk through the old town for around 7 minutes and you are on a road. Be careful if you have a lot of luggage, it might be tough. People who need Wi-Fi it’s for you! It works very well 🧑💻👩💻 🤑Very briefly about the price and staff. There is nothing to tell, everything is fine and the price really matched the quality. About 100$ per night. I would rate this experience 5/5. Hope you will spend amazing time in Rabat! Please if you have any questions ask in the comments! A picture of the stunning Atlantic ocean is a bonus! This is the capital of Morocco — its cultural, political, and industrial center. 🏠 Hotel: Le M Hotel Mausoleum of Mohammed V — One of the city's key landmarks, symbolizing national identity and honoring the king who played a pivotal role in Morocco's fight for independence. Hassan Tower — An unfinished minaret of a massive mosque. It is one of the city's most famous attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kasbah of the Udayas — An ancient citadel in Rabat and a monument of Moorish architecture from the Almohad period. After the fall of the Almohads, the fortress fell into ruin and served as a pirate haven for a long time 🏴☠️ I really enjoyed the city; you can truly feel the Moroccan vibe here. It's definitely worth spending 1-2 days exploring it 🫶 history

Before embarking on my journey to this new country, I knew only a few facts about Morocco. First, that it's located in Africa. Second, that it's a former French colony. Third, that the hit TV series "The Clone" was filmed there. That was enough to make me want to go, completely unaware of just how absolutely enchanting it truly is. Don't be fooled into thinking it's just a desert here. The scenery changes multiple times a day. Picturesque local villages are followed by lush "Swiss-style" pastures for grazing livestock, which then give way to a unique cedar forest, rugged steppes, a volcanic plateau, and scorching sand dunes. During our trip, we saw the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert, one of the tallest minarets in the world, ancient medinas, breathtaking oases, a modern capital, a blue city, the ruins of the westernmost city of the Roman Empire, and the Moroccan Hollywood. We even managed to visit 6 out of the 9 UNESCO World Heritage sites. For our 12-day road trip, we chose the following route: Casablanca ➡️ Rabat ➡️ Asilah ➡️ Chefchaouen ➡️ Meknes ➡️ Fez ➡️ Midelt ➡️ Errachidia ➡️ Merzouga ➡️ Tinghir ➡️ Ouarzazate ➡️ Marrakesh ➡️ Casablanca. Traveling in April, we caught both gorgeous 79 °F (+26 °C) weather and a crisp, pleasant 54 °F (+12 °C). We got incredibly lucky. We actually touched snow in Africa with our own bare hands! We were almost blown away by the fierce winds up in the mountains. We also discovered what it's like to be caught in the rain in the Sahara! (Which didn't dampen our spirits or ruin our experience in the slightest.) It really is a melting pot of cultures: Berber, Arab, and European. It's like a kaleidoscope. And it leaves you with the lingering feeling that you've visited not just one country, but several.

Let me be completely honest with you — I didn’t know what to expect before visiting Morocco. I’d seen the photos, sure. The blue city, the desert dunes, the spice markets. But nothing — and I mean nothing — prepares you for what Morocco actually feels like in real life. 😍 This country is a full sensory experience: the smell of fresh mint tea, the sound of the call to prayer echoing through ancient medinas, the sight of endless golden sand dunes under a star-packed sky. Morocco is one of those rare destinations that gets under your skin and never really leaves. Let me take you through it — starting with its elegant, often-overlooked capital. 🗺️ 🏛️ Rabat — The Capital That Surprises Everyone Most travelers fly straight to Marrakech and skip Rabat entirely. Big mistake. 😄 Rabat is Morocco’s elegant coastal capital — a living tapestry of history, culture, and untamed beauty. As you wander its medinas and palm-fringed boulevards, you feel the pulse of a place where ancient Berber fortresses meet modern art galleries, and the call to prayer mingles with the crash of Atlantic waves. Here’s what you can’t miss in Rabat: Hassan Tower & Mausoleum of Mohammed V 🕌 The Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V are the city’s most iconic landmarks, representing Morocco’s spiritual and royal heritage. The tower was intended to be the world’s largest mosque — it was never finished, but that somehow makes it even more photogenic. Wander between the 348 half-columns, soak up the open-air grandeur, and take your time with the angles — this place loves golden hour. 📸 Kasbah of the Udayas 🏰 The Kasbah of the Udayas is a 12th-century fortress perched right at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river where it meets the Atlantic. The blue-and-white painted streets inside feel like a quieter, more authentic version of Chefchaouen. Wander in, get a little lost, and grab a mint tea with the view. ☕ The Medina & Ville Nouvelle 🛍️ Most historical sites in Rabat are walkable and located in the city center — plan walking tours of Meydan Square and the walled city. Then cross over into the elegant Ville Nouvelle district, which showcases Rabat’s French colonial heritage through its striking architecture and tree-lined boulevards. 2026 Bonus: Rabat was named UNESCO World Book Capital, bringing a calendar of literary events, book fairs, and cultural exchanges celebrating its rich intellectual heritage. A wonderful time to visit for culture lovers! 📚 🌹 Marrakech — The City That Never Sleeps Okay, now we talk about the city everyone’s heard of — and for good reason. Marrakech is electric. 🔥 Djemaa el-Fna Square During the day, this large square at the heart of the medina serves as a marketplace where you can find fruit stalls, snake charmers, and wandering musicians. As the sun sets, the square transforms into a buzzing hub of activity, with storytellers, magicians, and rows of food stalls filling the air with delicious smells. This is the soul of Morocco, right here. Don’t miss it. The Medina (UNESCO World Heritage Site) Do not try to explore the Marrakech medina on your own. It is a beautiful, winding, glorious maze — and you will get lost. That is not a bad thing, but a local guide will show you things you would never find yourself. 😄 The souks inside are a treasure hunt — carpets, lanterns, leather bags, spices, handmade jewelry. Take your time, browse everything, and don’t be afraid to negotiate prices. It’s part of the fun! Majorelle Garden 🌿 The Majorelle Garden is a vivid blue garden that Yves Saint Laurent once called home. Book ahead — it fills up fast. It’s a gorgeous, peaceful escape from the busy medina streets. The contrast of cobalt blue walls against tropical plants is stunning and very Instagrammable. 📷 Koutoubia Mosque The most famous landmark on Marrakech’s skyline — a magnificent 12th-century minaret visible from almost everywhere in the city. You can’t enter as a non-Muslim, but the gardens around it are beautiful and worth a stroll. 🏔️ Beyond the Cities — Morocco Has SO Much More Chefchaouen — The Blue City 💙 Tucked into the Rif Mountains, this small city is famous for its striking blue-painted streets and buildings. Peaceful, photogenic, and unlike anywhere else on earth. A must-stop if you have time! The Sahara Desert 🐪 On Morocco desert tours from Marrakech or Fes to Merzouga, dinner in the desert camp is usually a Berber tagine. Eating tagine under the stars after a camel ride is one of the highlights of many Sahara trips. If you’re doing Morocco and skipping the desert, you’re doing Morocco wrong. 🌟 Ouzoud Waterfalls 💧 About 2.5 hours east of Marrakech lie the Ouzoud Falls, one of Morocco’s tallest waterfalls with a total drop of about 110 meters across several cascades. You can hike around the falls, take a boat ride in the basin, and you’ll often see Barbary macaque monkeys in the trees around — they’re cheeky, so keep an eye on your belongings! 🐒 🍽️ What to Eat in Morocco Moroccan food is slow-cooked, fragrant, and deeply satisfying. Here’s your must-try list: · Tagine 🍲 — The national dish. A slow-cooked stew with meat or vegetables, seasoned with saffron, cumin, coriander, and more. In the Marrakech medina, many rooftop restaurants serve chicken tagine with preserved lemon, kefta tagine, and vegetable tagines with a view of the city. Every region has its own version! · Couscous 🥘 — Traditionally served on Fridays, fluffy and topped with vegetables and meat. Absolutely delicious. · Pastilla — A flaky pastry filled with spiced pigeon or chicken, dusted with powdered sugar. Sweet and savory at the same time — sounds weird, tastes incredible. 😄 · Harira 🍜 — A traditional Moroccan soup made with lentils, chickpeas, tomatoes, herbs, and spices. The perfect warming comfort food. · Mint Tea ☕ — This is not just a drink in Morocco, it’s a ritual. Poured from a height into small glasses, sweet and fresh. You’ll have it everywhere, and you’ll love every single cup. · Street Food at Djemaa el-Fna — Point at what looks good. Eat standing up. This is Morocco. 😄 📅 Best Time to Visit Morocco The sweet spots are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) — warm, sunny, and comfortable for exploring. 🌸🍂 Summer (June–August) can be scorching hot, especially inland in Marrakech and the desert. Winter is mild on the coast but can get cold in the mountains and desert nights. 💡 Essential Travel Tips ✅ Dress modestly — especially in medinas and religious areas. Light, loose clothing works perfectly✅ Negotiate prices in souks — it’s expected and part of the culture✅ Learn 2–3 words in Darija (Moroccan Arabic) — Shukran (thank you) goes a long way 🙏✅ Save your riad’s location on your phone — the medina can feel like a maze at first, and having a pin on a map is very helpful✅ Try a traditional hammam — a local bathhouse experience is genuinely relaxing and very affordable✅ Carry cash (Moroccan Dirham) — many small shops and stalls are cash only ✨ Final Thoughts Morocco is the kind of country that humbles you. It’s ancient and modern, chaotic and serene, familiar and utterly foreign all at once. From the elegant streets of Rabat to the electric energy of Marrakech’s medina, from the silence of the Sahara to the blue tranquility of Chefchaouen — every corner of this country tells a story. If Morocco isn’t on your travel list yet, it needs to be. And if you’ve been before — you already know exactly what I’m talking about. 😊🇲🇦 Have you visited Morocco? What was your favorite moment? I recently spent three wonderful days exploring Rabat, the beautiful capital of Morocco, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. On the first day, I started with the iconic Hassan Tower and the impressive Mausoleum of Mohammed V. The architecture and history of these landmarks immediately gave me a sense of the city’s rich heritage. Later, I visited the ancient Chellah site, where Roman and Islamic ruins sit peacefully among gardens and storks. In the evening, I enjoyed a relaxing walk along the Bouregreg River, watching the sunset between Rabat and Salé. The second day was all about the charm of the old city and the ocean. I wandered through the Kasbah of the Udayas, with its beautiful white and blue houses and quiet streets that felt almost timeless. The Andalusian Gardens were a peaceful escape, and I later stopped at the famous Café Maure to enjoy traditional Moroccan mint tea while overlooking the river and the sea. In the afternoon, I explored the Medina of Rabat, where the local markets offered colorful crafts, textiles, and authentic Moroccan atmosphere. I ended the day with a walk along Rabat Beach, enjoying the fresh ocean breeze. On the third day, I focused more on culture and modern Rabat. I visited the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which showcased impressive Moroccan and international artworks. After lunch, I spent some time walking through the Experimental Botanical Garden, a calm and green space perfect for relaxation. In the evening, I explored the modern parts of the city, strolling along Mohammed V Avenue and enjoying the lively atmosphere. Overall, Rabat surprised me with its balance of history, culture, ocean views, and relaxed atmosphere. Three days felt like the perfect amount of time to discover its main highlights while still enjoying the rhythm of the city. It is definitely a destination I would recommend to anyone visiting Morocco.

Rabat, the capital of Morocco, was founded in the 12th century during the Almohad dynasty. It was originally built as a military fortress for launching sea attacks on the Iberian Peninsula. The existing old city mainly dates back to the 18th century. 👉The city is divided into two parts: the Old City and the New City. The Old City retains the medieval Arab style, with narrow streets, bustling traditional markets, and handicrafts. The New City houses government offices, financial and commercial institutions, and research centers, featuring wide streets and modern architecture. Rabat is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a "modern city with a historic old town." 👉Rabat, the millennium-old imperial city by the Atlantic Ocean, where ancient sites dance with the waves and history breathes in every brick. Here, there is no hustle and bustle, only orderly buildings and warm air, as if traveling through time, where every step touches the perfect balance between Arab culture and modern civilization.

Rabat doesn’t try to be loud. It doesn’t overwhelm with colors or overload with impressions. It unfolds calmly — step by step. I wandered without a clear plan. I ended up at the Atlantic, where the walls of the Kasbah of the Udayas rise above the ocean. Stone, wind, and waves crashing against the rocks as if they’ve been doing so for a thousand years. Above — narrow white-and-blue streets, shadows from arches, and the feeling that time flows slower here. Below — endless water. And everywhere, cats. They lie on steps, bask by the walls, and gaze at tourists with absolute calm. It seems they are the true masters of the city. Cemetery by the Ocean Next to the kasbah is Cimetière El Alou. White tombstones descend all the way to the water. Silence, wind, and the horizon. This place doesn’t frighten. It’s more about peace. About naturalness. About how life and eternity coexist side by side here. A Royal Touch Rabat is the capital. And you can feel it. I reached the Royal Palace of Rabat. Monumental gates, symmetry, perfect order. Everything is strict, majestic, and without excessive ostentation. The city seems to combine two sides: oceanic freedom and royal restraint. The Taste of Rabat And, of course, the food. Every morning — fresh bread, olives, mint tea. Olives are served almost everywhere, and after a couple of days, you realize that breakfast isn’t the same without them. Simple food, warm air, and unhurried conversations — sometimes, this is what leaves the strongest impression of a place. Good to Know: · The best time for walks is closer to sunset · It’s easy to get lost in the kasbah — and that’s a good thing · The ocean can be quite windy · The Royal Palace can be seen from the outside · Don’t rush — Rabat doesn’t like haste Rabat isn’t a city to check off a list. It’s about a state of being. About the Atlantic breeze, white walls, calm cats, and the taste of olives in the morning.
