Mont-Saint-Michel in France. I've been to France a few times, but I had given up on going here because it seemed a bit hard to get to... But I really wanted to see it with my own eyes, so I finally made the trip! The scenery was even more mystical than in the photos, and I truly understood why it’s called a "must-visit World Heritage Site." In this post, I'll share my actual experience, including how to get there and the best way to explore! 💡 There are guided tours from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel, but I wanted to see the sunset and sunrise, so I went on my own and stayed overnight at a hotel. [How to Get There] ① Take a train from Paris Montparnasse Station to Rennes Station (Approx. 1.5 hours) (Trains like TGV inOUI and OUIGO are available.) Take a bus from Rennes Station to Le Mont Saint-Michel Station (Approx. 1.5 hours) (Note: This is a KEOLIS bus, and there are only 3 departures a day, so be careful!) 💡 I highly recommend booking both your train and bus tickets in advance once your dates and times are set.) ② I had originally booked the route mentioned above, but plot twist: my train was delayed, and I completely missed my bus! 💦 So, I had to pivot and figure out a new route on the fly. Here’s how I did it: Take a train from Rennes Station to Pontorson Station (Approx. 1 hour) Take a bus from Pontorson Station to Mont-Saint-Michel (Approx. 30 minutes) (This bus had several stops, including right in front of my hotel and at the entrance to the Mont-Saint-Michel island!) Despite the chaos, I somehow made it to the hotel I had booked, dropped off my bags, and headed straight to Mont-Saint-Michel! [Mont-Saint-Michel] Watching Mont-Saint-Michel slowly come into view. It looked exactly like a castle floating on the sea, and I couldn't help but feel emotional: "I'm actually here...!" From the parking lot/bus terminal, you can take a free shuttle or walk to the island. Walking takes about 40 minutes, but strolling at a relaxed pace while taking in the breathtaking views felt absolutely amazing. [How to Explore] First, start with the main street. The cobblestone path is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants, making you feel like you've stepped back in time into a medieval town. Next, head up to the Abbey. The stunning cloisters and chapels offer panoramic views of the surroundings, making it a truly special place where you can soak in the history and tranquility. After exploring, I grabbed a bite at a restaurant and walked back along the outer wall, known as the "View Course." The sunset and Mont-Saint-Michel were absolutely gorgeous. Where I Ate 🍽️ Restaurant Du Guesclin 📍 3025 Grande Rue, 50170 Le Mont-Saint-Michel, France I ordered a set menu! And, of course, I had to try their famous omelet just in case. 🥚 I went back to the hotel for a bit and then walked out again to see Mont-Saint-Michel after sunset. It wasn't particularly lit up, though. Where I Stayed 🏨 Hôtel Mercure Mont-Saint-Michel 📍 Rte du Mont Saint-Michel Bp 8, 50170 Le Mont-Saint-Michel, France The best part was how close it was to the shuttle bus stop. Plus, the room had AC, so I could cool off! ✨ The room itself was really clean, too! ✨ The next morning, I walked over right in time for the 6:06 AM sunrise. (Keep in mind, the shuttle buses aren't running that early!) There were hardly any people, and I got to witness the magical sight of the morning glow and Mont-Saint-Michel. Afterward, I waited for high tide to see Mont-Saint-Michel looking like it was truly floating on the water, admired its reflection, and even checked out the "Méandres," known as the "winding waterways." 🥾 Méandres 📍 JG94+PQ, Pontorson, France The sea and sky completely change their vibe depending on the time of day, making it an absolute paradise for photography lovers. It’s bound to be an unforgettable memory! ☺️ 💡 When I booked the KEOLIS bus, they emailed me an admission discount coupon for the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey! So, I think it's definitely a good idea to book your bus tickets before making your Abbey reservation!

To be precise, I traveled from Disneyland Paris to Mont Saint-Michel! Woke up at 3 AM! Haha First, I looked for a locker to store my suitcase before arriving at Montparnasse Station. I ended up leaving it at the front desk of the nearby Hotel ibis! Lockers can sometimes have size limitations, so leaving your luggage at a hotel is highly recommended! Then, I dashed to Montparnasse Station. I boarded the train I had booked online and headed to Rennes Station. At Rennes Station, I got a bit lost finding the bus stop, but I managed to arrive safely. I took the bus to Mont Saint-Michel. It was clean and comfortable! Upon arrival, you can either take the free shuttle bus or walk to the site. The shuttle bus line was incredibly long, so I chose to walk. This turned out to be the perfect choice. Walking allowed me to gradually see Mont Saint-Michel come into view, making it easier to capture the best shots. Plus, strolling towards the site was a lot of fun! Inside, I enjoyed browsing souvenir shops and eating gelato—it was a blast! The view from the high vantage points was absolutely stunning. Mont Saint-Michel, which inspired the castle in "Tangled," was truly worth visiting. I'm so glad I went!

In Rennes, there is no festival for a month, no concert for a day, and there is a sense of rhythm when walking here. The city of rock is not only a legend. So we stayed at a special rock hotel - the Le Magic Hall. The biggest highlight is that the hotel has a private band called "MB", which is dedicated to the guests. In the ktv mini private room, there is a zero-distance rock, my heart is really a bit unbearable. Le Magic Hall Hotel, although not gorgeous, is very interesting. The hotel was transformed from a movie theater. The owner still retains the temperament of some cinemas, and the old posters posted are everywhere. Each room in the room is different, with a flat floor and a loft duplex. In short, Le Magic Hall Hotel is a small, very interesting petty bourgeois hotel. There is something to say is not perfect, breakfast, only different kinds of bread, although delicious, it is slightly boring.

While my friends were still posting photos of European churches and the Eiffel Tower, I watched a spired castle emerge from the sea on the beaches of Normandy. A thousand years ago, Benedictine monks carried stones to build this cloud-piercing abbey on a tidal island, said to be one of the inspirations for Hogwarts in "Harry Potter." When the tide recedes, the winding water marks on the mudflats resemble the lines on a palm, and the entire castle is so quiet that only the cries of seagulls and the distant chimes of the bell tower can be heard. Stepping onto Mont Saint-Michel, the overwhelming sense of being embraced by the Middle Ages is incredibly healing. 🛣️ Transportation guide Train + bus: Take the TGV from Paris Montparnasse station to Rennes, about 1.5 hours, tickets cost €35–65. From the Rennes station exit, turn right and take the Keolis bus directly to Mont Saint-Michel, about 1.5 hours, tickets cost €15. The bus stops directly at the closest parking lot to the island, making it the most hassle-free option. Self-drive: Navigate to the Mont Saint-Michel parking lot. It's about a 4-hour drive from Paris. Parking costs €15 per day. From the parking lot, take a free shuttle bus to the scenic area or walk across the causeway to the island. Note that some low-lying roads may be submerged during high tide. Group day tour: Group tours from Paris include round-trip transportation and admission tickets, costing €120–150 per person. This is the best option for those who don't want to worry about transportation. 💃 Must-visit spots 🎫: Abbey admission ticket is €11. Buy online in advance to avoid queues. After tourists leave at night, the entire island is yours. Open a wooden window and you can touch the abbey's stone walls. Luxury: Five-star castle hotels start from €350, featuring Michelin-starred restaurants and mudflat-view swimming pools. After exploring Mont Saint-Michel, relax in the pool and watch the tides ebb and flow—so comfortable you won't want to leave. While everyone else was scrambling to queue for the Louvre in Paris, Mont Saint-Michel, with its €11 admission and medieval wonders, offered me a healing experience where even time itself was swept away by the tides. Standing at the abbey spire, watching the tide cover the mudflats, all those anxieties suddenly receded with the water. 🎯 Tips 1. Always check the tide schedule before you go. The island is most spectacular when surrounded by water during spring tides. During neap tides, the mudflats are dry, significantly reducing the visual impact. 2. Bring a windbreaker. Even in summer, the sea breeze can make you question your life choices, and the drafts in the island's alleys are particularly strong. 3. Most restaurants on the island close in the afternoon. If you want to try La Mère Poulard omelet, make a reservation in advance, otherwise you might end up so hungry you'll be tempted to gnaw on the sea salt from the mudflats.

Fantastic hotel and spa with outstanding service from start to finish. I travelled with my Beagle puppy and the hotel even provided him with a dog bed and bowls, and fresh water was always available at reception. lalso received a complimentary glass of champagne and one hour of access to the spa included in the stay, which was especially appreciated after a long journey. The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, only about 5 minutes from Rennes train station and the metro, and around 6 minutes from nearby shops. Everything was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the hotel offers excellent value for money. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone, and if I return to Rennes in the future, I Will definitely stay here again.

There are rental shops near the Rennes train station—for example, Maison du Vélo. 📅 Day-by-Day Itinerary: 1️⃣ ~54 km - Rennes → Dinan ✔️ What you'll see: A bike path along the Ille-et-Rance Canal, locks, houseboats, shaded alleys, and the medieval village of Léhon. ✔️ Highlights: Part of the route runs along a former railway line (Voie Verte), and the terrain is flat and easy. #footballfanculture Rennes is a city of youthful energy, and nowhere is that more apparent than on Place Sainte-Anne and Rue Saint-Michel. My World Cup night was spent in a bustling crêperie-bar, where the smell of buckwheat galettes and cider filled the air. The half-timbered buildings leaned in close, making the square feel like a cozy, rowdy living room. The crowd was almost entirely students, their scarves waving and voices hoarse from chanting. It’s a different kind of fan culture—fast-paced, ironic, but deeply invested. We washed down our galettes with bowls of dry cider, cheering every pass with a mix of genuine support and playful sarcasm. When the goal came, the entire square erupted, and cider sloshed over the edges of glasses. The Plan: Target the bars on Rue Saint-Michel ("Rue de la Soif"). Arrive 2 hours early for big games—it’s student central. Order a galette saucisse(sausage in a pancake). After the match, join the throng moving toward Place de la Mairie. Located just 1.5 hours from Paris by TGV, it is an excellent base for visiting Mont Saint-Michel and Saint-Malo while offering plenty to see on its own. The highlight is the historic old town, where colourful half-timbered houses line picturesque squares such as Place du Champ-Jacquet. Don’t miss Parc du Thabor, a beautiful garden filled with fountains, flowers, and peaceful walking paths. The city is compact and easy to explore on foot, making it ideal for families. Getting There: Direct TGV trains connect Rennes with Paris Montparnasse. Must Visit: Old Town, Place du Champ-Jacquet, Parc du Thabor, Rennes Cathedral. Food Tip: La Crique , Le Bistro Volney Pro Tip: Spend at least one full day in Rennes before heading to Mont Saint-Michel or Saint-Malo.
