Latvia travel guide and discussion

If you only have two days in Latvia, I recommend dedicating one day to Riga itself and the other to Jurmala. This way, you'll be able to see medieval architecture, admire the city from above, and stroll along the wide, sandy beach of the Baltic Sea 👇 🏰 Day 1. Old Town, Panoramas, and the Zoo 📍 1. Old Town (Vecrīga) Start your morning with a stroll through the historic center. It features narrow cobbled streets, ancient buildings, cozy cafes, and beautiful squares. What to see: · Town Hall Square and the famous House of the Blackheads. · Riga Cathedral—one of the city's main historical landmarks. · The Three Brothers—a complex of medieval residential buildings. · The Swedish Gate and the Cat House. · St. Peter's Church. Plan for 2-3 hours for the walk, including stops for coffee and photos. 🔭 2. St. Peter's Church Observation Deck After your walk, climb to the observation deck of St. Peter's Church. From here, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the red tiled roofs of the Old Town, the Daugava River, and Riga's central districts. This is one of the best places to see the city from above and take beautiful photos. 🦁 3. Riga Zoo In the afternoon, head to the Riga Zoo, located in the leafy Mežaparks district. Here you can see animals from all over the world, visit the tropical house, and other indoor exhibits. The grounds also offer areas for walking and relaxing by the lake. Allow 2-3 hours for your visit. From the city center, it's easy to get there by tram #11 or bus #9 to the Mežaparks/ZOO stop. Tip: Check the schedule before your trip—the zoo closes earlier during the cold season. 🌊 Day 2. Jurmala – Pine Trees, Wooden Villas, and the Baltic Sea Spend your second day visiting Jurmala, a popular Latvian resort located approximately 25 km from Riga's city center. 🚆 1. Getting There The most convenient way to get there is by train from Riga Central Station to Majori Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes. 🚶 2. Jomas Street (Jomas iela) Start your stroll from Jurmala's main pedestrian street. Here you'll find cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, and beautiful buildings with characteristic wooden architecture. You can take a leisurely stroll, have breakfast, or drink coffee before heading to the sea. 🏖️ 3. Jurmala Beach The main reason to come here is the wide, sandy beach on the Baltic Sea. In summer, people sunbathe and swim here, and in cooler weather, people come for the sea air and walks along the water. The beach is especially beautiful with its light sand, dunes, and pine trees. 🌲 4. Dzintari Park If you have time, visit the Dzintari Forest Park. There are walking paths among the pine trees, and the main attraction is the observation tower, approximately 36 meters high. From it, you can enjoy views of the forest and the surrounding resort. 🍽️ 5. Lunch and Return to Riga After your walk, you can have lunch at one of Jurmala's cafes and then return to Riga by train. It's best to allocate most of the day for your trip to Jurmala so you don't rush and have time to enjoy the sea. ✨ Summary In two days, you'll see two completely different sides of Latvia: historic Riga with its medieval streets and seaside Jurmala with its sandy beaches, pine trees, and wooden villas. This itinerary is perfect for both a first glimpse of the country and a short weekend trip. #Riga #Latvia #Jurmala #BalticSea

Riga surprised me with how much I could see without spending much. I spent most of the day walking, and the city seemed to keep offering another beautiful corner. I started in Riga Old Town, wandering through the cobbled lanes around Dome Square and Town Hall Square. The mix of medieval streets, colorful buildings, and grand churches made simply walking around feel like sightseeing. From there, I headed toward the Art Nouveau district, especially Alberta Street. I wasn’t expecting the buildings themselves to be such a highlight the elaborate façades made me stop constantly for photos. Later, I slowed things down in Bastejkalns Park and followed the canal toward Esplanade. Riga has plenty of green spaces right around the center, so it was easy to mix sightseeing with quiet walks. I also explored Vērmanes Garden, the Daugava riverfront, Freedom Monument, and the exterior of Riga Central Market. For a city break, that was more than enough to fill my day. What I liked most was that Riga didn’t feel like a city I had to constantly pay to experience. Sometimes, the best part was simply walking around and seeing where the streets took me. #riga

If you want to see Riga from above, be sure to climb the tower of St. Peter's Church ⛪️ It's one of the city's most beautiful panoramic views, offering stunning views of the historic center. 🏘️ From a height of 72 meters, you can see the red-tiled roofs of the Old Town, the winding Daugava River, bridges, and modern districts of Riga. In clear weather, you can even see the city's outskirts. 📸 Why climb? It's a great opportunity to see Old Riga in its entirety and take beautiful photos from above. The church itself is also one of the city's main historical landmarks, founded back in 1209. 💶 Admission: · €9 – adult ticket including access to the observation deck. · €3 – church only. Prices are subject to change, so it's best to check the official website before your visit. 📍 Address: Reformācijas laukums 1, Riga, Latvia. 🕒 Opening Hours: · Monday–Thursday and Sunday: 10:00–18:00. · Friday and Saturday: 10:00–22:00. ⬆️ You can reach the observation deck by elevator, so you don't have to climb all the tower's steps. My tip: come in the late afternoon, when the city is beautifully illuminated by the sun. If the weather is clear, the views are especially impressive! ✨ #Riga #Latvia #RigaOldTown

#easytravelpost I did this backwards: train Riga–Sigulda (€4 return, 1 h 10, card at the machine), then walked the Gauja valley path north 3 km to Turaida instead of the usual reverse.First stop Gutmanis (Gūtmaņala) Cave—free, 19 m deep, sandstone walls carved since 1667, dripping even in August. Then the forest trail climbs 20 min to Turaida Castle reserve (€5.50 adult, 10–19 summer, card), rose garden best late June. The path is red sandstone, slippery after rain, leashed dogs OK, no bikes on the foot section. Sigulda side has the cable car (€8 return) and Krimulda ruins if you want the loop—total 12 km. I packed 1.5 L water; the cave is cool 11°C but the ridge bakes. Mistake: I wore suede trainers, slid on the sandstone switchback, a Latvian hiker lent me his spare sock to wrap the sole. Kindness beat: at the cave mouth a woman was tracing her grandfather’s 1931 inscription; she offered me her water and said "the rock keeps names longer than the people." Is a 350-year-old graffiti wall a desecration or the cave’s actual archive—and where do you draw the line on new carvings?

Wander through the Old Town, admire the stunning Art Nouveau architecture, sample local delicacies at the Riga Central Market, and capture beautiful moments along the Daugava River 🌆 ✨ Perfect for history buffs, photography enthusiasts, and cafe lovers. 📍 Highlights: Riga Old Town • House of the Black Heads • Riga Central Market 🗓️ Recommended: 2–3 days is ideal.

August 15th was home cafe day, when all around Latvia 🇱🇻 people can enjoy home made food with natural ingredients. I was in Countryside 'Bitītes' There was live music, attractions for kids and non alcoholic bar where drinks were made from berries. This countryside home was mainly producing honey 🍯 They sold honey with all kinds of flavors , basically everything you can imagine with chocolate 🍫 nuts, ginger and even mustard. Also home made slippers I thought they looked very comfortable. #latvia #latviatravel #food

Latvia has Riga and Jūrmala. But on the Baltic coast lies a town that has reinvented itself with color and whimsy. Ventspils is a port city of cobblestone streets, flower gardens, and a harbor that has been transformed into a promenade. The cow statues are famous. The beach is wide. Here is how to explore this hidden Baltic gem and save money with Trip.com. 1. The Harbor at Dawn: Boats and Silence Ventspils's harbor is a working port where cargo ships and fishing boats come and go. By 9 AM, the town wakes. Come at 6 AM instead. The water is glass. The cranes stand silent. You will walk along the promenade with only the sound of gulls and the creak of ropes. It feels like the Latvia of a century ago. Pro Tip: Download the Trip.com offline map for Ventspils. It shows you the quietest routes along the harbor and the hidden viewpoints. The best photos are from the pier at sunrise, when the water glows. 2. The Cow Statues: A Whimsical Trail Ventspils is famous for its cow statues — colorful fiberglass cows scattered throughout the town. Each one is different. They are playful, artistic, and loved by locals. The cow trail is a fun way to explore the town. Walk slowly. The details are everywhere — flowers, murals, and hidden courtyards. Money Hack: The cow statues are free to find. Skip the expensive guided tours. Pick up a map from the tourist office and follow the trail on your own. Check Trip.com for a "Ventspils Cow Trail Guide" that shows you the locations and the stories behind each cow. 3. The Beach: Sand and Dunes Ventspils has a beautiful beach, backed by dunes and pine forests. The sand is soft. The sea is calm. Come in the afternoon. The light is golden, and the beach is peaceful. It is one of the best stretches of coast in Latvia. Budget Advice: Skip the expensive beach cafés. Pack a picnic and eat on the sand. Check Trip.com for a "Ventspils Coast Guide" that shows you the best beaches and the quietest spots. The guide includes stops at the nearby nature park. 4. Food That Tastes Like the Coast Latvian coastal food is fresh and simple. Try Smoked Fish — the local specialty, best from the market. Order Pelēkie Zirņi — grey peas with bacon, a national dish. And do not miss Rupjmaize — dark rye bread, best with honey. Where to Eat: Skip the expensive restaurants on the promenade. Walk into the old town and find Café Ventspils or Restorāns Ostas, where locals eat. The food is fresh, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local beer when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a guesthouse in the old town. Look for something on Tirgus laukums or near the harbor. You will sleep in a wooden house with a view of the water, the sound of gulls at dawn, and the scent of flowers. The evenings are quiet, and the stars are bright. Conclusion: Ventspils is not a place you rush through. It is a place you breathe in. It is a town of cows and cobblestones, of harbors and flowers. It is a place where the sea shapes everything. Latvia is a country of song and resilience, but Ventspils is its colorful coastal soul. Come and walk the harbor at dawn. The sea is waiting. #trip_com #Latvia #Ventspils #ventspilstravel #LatviaHiddenGems #BalticSea #CowStatues #BudgetTravel #EuropeGuide #travelbaltic #HarborTown #FlowerGardens #HiddenBaltic #CoastalCharm #PortCity

Latvia surprised me with how much variety it offered. I came expecting a quick Baltic getaway, but I ended up finding a country that was easy to explore and full of quiet little discoveries. 1. Get lost in Riga’s Old Town I started in Riga Old Town, wandering around Riga Cathedral and House of the Blackheads before stopping for coffee in a small square. The mix of medieval streets and Art Nouveau buildings made walking around feel effortless. 2. Escape into nature I took a day trip to Gauja National Park, where forest trails, sandstone cliffs, and peaceful rivers felt completely removed from city life. I also visited Turaida Castle, which gave me some fantastic views across the surrounding landscape. 3. Experience Latvia by the sea I spent an afternoon in Jūrmala, walking along the long sandy beach and exploring its wooden houses. It was the perfect contrast to Riga. What I liked most was Latvia’s slower pace. There weren’t endless crowds or attractions demanding my attention. I could explore, stop for food, wander some more, and actually enjoy the surroundings. I arrived thinking Latvia would be a short stop between other European destinations. I left thinking it deserved a trip of its own. #latvia #riga

Everyone calls Riga the Paris of the North. They're wrong. Riga doesn't need the comparison. It has the largest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in the world. It has a medieval old town that survived two world wars and Soviet occupation. It has a central market built inside zeppelin hangars. And it has a spirit that's entirely its own. Here's how the largest city in the Baltics got under my skin. 🌅 6:30 AM — The Old Town Before The Crowds Riga's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. By 10 AM, the cobblestone streets are full. At dawn, they're empty. I walked through the narrow alleys as the sun rose. The medieval merchant houses glowed in shades of ochre and rust. The Dome Cathedral loomed at the end of the street. A street sweeper passed with his cart. A cat sat on a windowsill, watching me. I climbed to St. Peter's Church tower. The view stretched over red roofs to the Daugava River. The city was silent below. This is Riga before the world arrives. 🆓 Free to walk, tower entry 9 EUR 📍 @Riga Old Town ⏰ Before 8 AM ☕ 9:00 AM — Coffee In A Building That's Art Alberta Street is the heart of Riga's Art Nouveau district. The buildings are covered in sculptures. Faces of women. Screaming masks. Mythical beasts. Flowers and vines carved in stone. I found a café called Sienna inside one of these buildings. I ordered a flat white and a pastry filled with sweet cheese. The coffee was strong. The pastry was warm. I sat by the window. Outside, tourists were already photographing the facades. Inside, I was drinking coffee inside a work of art. 💸 4 EUR 📍 @Alberta Street 🏛️ 11:00 AM — The Museum Of Occupation That Broke Me The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia tells the story of the 20th century. Soviet occupation. Nazi occupation. Soviet occupation again. Deportations. Resistance. Survival. I walked through the exhibits slowly. A train car used for deportations to Siberia. Letters written by deportees. Photos of families separated forever. The museum is quiet. No one speaks. The walls are black and grey. I stood in front of a wall of names. Thousands of names. Each one a person. Each one a story cut short. I left in silence. Some museums educate. This one mourns. 💸 Free, donations welcome 📍 @Museum of the Occupation of Latvia 🥘 1:00 PM — Lunch In A Zeppelin Hangar Riga Central Market is the largest market in Europe. It's housed in five former zeppelin hangars from World War I. The pavilions are massive and arched. Inside, vendors sell everything. Fish. Meat. Cheese. Pickles. Honey. I wandered through the hangars. I bought smoked eel and dark rye bread and a jar of pickled mushrooms. I ate standing at a counter. The eel was smoky and rich. The bread was dense and sour. The mushrooms were tangy and earthy. This is Latvian food. Unpretentious and deeply satisfying. 💸 5 EUR 📍 @Riga Central Market 🎨 3:00 PM — The District That Reinvented Itself Miera iela is Riga's hipster street. It means "Peace Street." During the Soviet era, it was quiet and residential. Now it's full of vintage shops, indie cafés, and artist studios. I walked the length of it. I found a record store selling Soviet-era vinyl. A bakery making sourdough with Latvian rye. A gallery showing work by young Latvian artists. The street is peaceful, as its name promises. This is Riga's creative pulse. It's not loud. It doesn't need to be. 🆓 Free to wander 📍 @Miera iela 🌳 5:00 PM — The Park Where Locals Disappear Mežaparks is Riga's green lung. It's a forest park on the edge of the city. I took a tram there. The trees closed overhead. The city noise faded. I walked through pine forests and around a lake. Families cycled. A man walked his dog. An old woman picked mushrooms. I sat on a bench by the water. The sun filtered through the trees. This is where Rigans come to breathe. It's not in the guidebooks. That's exactly why it's perfect. 🆓 Free 📍 @Mežaparks 🍽️ 7:30 PM — Dinner In A Medieval Cellar Rozengrals is a restaurant in a 13th-century wine cellar under the Old Town. The walls are stone. The candles are wax. The menu is medieval. I ordered a pork shank with honey and mustard. It arrived on a wooden board. The meat fell off the bone. The sauce was sweet and sharp. I drank a local beer. The room was full of shadows. A group of Finnish tourists sat in the corner, speaking quietly. I felt like a merchant who'd just arrived after a long journey. This is dining as time travel. 💸 20 EUR 📍 @Rozengrals 🌙 10:00 PM — The River At Midnight The Daugava River flows through Riga. At night, the bridges are lit up. The Old Town glows. I walked along the riverbank. The water was black and still. The city reflected perfectly. I sat on a bench. A young couple walked past, holding hands. A cyclist passed with a light on his helmet. The air was cool. The city was quiet. Riga had done its work. It had shown me Art Nouveau and occupation and zeppelin hangars and forest parks. It's not Paris. It's better. 🆓 Free 📍 @Daugava River embankment 🏨 Where I Stayed (And Slept In A Palace) Grand Palace Hotel — a boutique hotel in a 19th-century palace near the Old Town. My room had high ceilings and a bathtub deep enough to disappear into. Booked via Trip.com. 💸 ~130 EUR/night via Trip.com 💡 Five Things Riga Whispered To Me · The Art Nouveau district is not optional. Walk Alberta Street and look up. Every facade is a story. · The Central Market is best in the morning. Go hungry. · Trip.com eSIM had perfect signal even inside the market hangars. · Learn "sveiki" (hello) and "paldies" (thank you). The effort opens doors. · Don't compare Riga to Paris. It's not Paris. It's Riga. That's enough. More than enough. Riga is not a city that tries to impress. It just is. Art Nouveau and medieval alleys and a market in zeppelin hangars and a park where the forest takes over. It carries its history quietly. It doesn't perform it. It lives it. I came for two days. I stayed for five. If you want my map and my café guide, comment below 👇🏻 #Riga2026 #VisitLatvia #HiddenGems #TravelGuide #TripMoments #ArtNouveau #SoloTravel

When visiting Riga, the capital of Latvia, you absolutely have to experience "sourcing your own breakfast" locally! Here are some highly recommended items I found at a local supermarket and the "Riga Central Market (Rīgas Centrāltirgus)," one of Europe's largest markets and a UNESCO World Heritage site 🛒🌸 · -- 🎪 1. Recommendations at the Riga Central Market (Rīgas Centrāltirgus) Housed inside massive repurposed Zeppelin hangars, this dome-shaped market is packed with fresh ingredients! 🍓 Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Mountains of berries you rarely see back home! The fresh tartness of the raspberries, in particular, burst in my mouth—the perfect way to wake up in the morning. 🍞 Rye Bread & Incredible Salted Butter Traditional dark bread (Rupjmaize) made from rye. Different from the ones at the supermarket, the handmade bread sold at the market looks so much more flavorful and appetizing 👀 And you absolutely have to try the local salted butter (Sviests)! Latvian dairy products are absolutely delicious across the board. Slathering this butter on the slightly sour rye bread creates a mind-blowing, perfectly balanced flavor 🧈✨ 🍯 Baltic Specialty Honey Beekeeping is a big deal in the Baltic states. The market offers a huge variety of honey, so have fun finding your favorite!! ・DAŽĀDU ZIEDU (Wildflower Honey): Mild with a gentle sweetness. The safest bet for a souvenir! ・LIEPU (Linden Honey): Incredibly popular in the Baltics. Features a refreshing, herbal aroma and an elegant aftertaste. ・MEŽA (Forest Honey): Dark in color, with a rich, deep flavor similar to brown sugar. · -- 🛒 2. Interesting Finds at a Local Supermarket 🥖 A Whole Wall of Bread From savory pastries to packaged loaves, the selection is so massive that just picking one out is exciting! Brands like "Latvijas Maiznieks" and "Fazer" are staples in Latvian supermarkets. Packaged denser breads have lower moisture content and last longer, making them excellent souvenirs ◎ 🌿 Fresh Herbs Sold with Soil I was so surprised to see herbs like basil and mint sold in little pots with soil! In the West, it's common to keep these in the kitchen and pinch off leaves as you cook. Spotting these little lifestyle differences is one of the best parts of exploring local supermarkets 🌱 🫖 A Wide Variety of Herbal Teas Blessed with lush nature, Latvia is a major consumer of herbal teas. I picked up a Linden and Chamomile blend from a brand called "MOŽUMS." The tea aisle at the supermarket is stocked with tons of local herbal teas, offering gentle aromas and fantastic relaxing effects. They're perfect for unwinding during tea time once you get back home ☕️ · -- 【Summary】 Arrange the fresh berries, rye bread, and butter you bought at the market in your room, and you've got the ultimate breakfast ☀️ If you ever visit Riga, be sure to enjoy some shopping and experience life like a local 🇱🇻

Out of all my travels through the Baltic states, the city that captured my heart the most was Riga, Latvia. This time, I enjoyed a 4-day, 3-night stay exploring entirely on foot 🚶♀️🌸 · -- 🏡 1. The Luxury of Staying in the Heart of the City I booked a place right by the Old Town square. I'd wake up, wander the streets, and head back to my room for a break whenever I felt tired. In the evening, I'd step out into the square again for a stroll. It was such a freeing, laid-back way to spend my time. · -- 🎻 2. Everyday City Life That Fills Your Soul At night, pleasant music drifts from the restaurants, and I loved listening to the street musicians play. Instead of rushing from one tourist spot to the next, simply being there in the moment brought me so much joy 🎶 · -- 🛒 3. An Authentic, Non-Touristy Lifestyle Take a peek into the local markets and supermarkets, and you'll get a real glimpse into the everyday lives of the locals. Prices are quite reasonable, so there's no pressure to rush around thinking, "I have to see it all." The city has a peaceful vibe, making it safe and relaxing for a solo female traveler to stroll around. It is completely safe in terms of security ✨ · -- [Summary] The famous tourist attractions are wonderful, of course, but what I loved most was the tranquil atmosphere of Riga as a whole. I highly recommend this city to anyone looking for an "unhurried trip" or wanting to "travel like a local." Whenever I visit the Baltics next, I'm absolutely coming back to Riga! 🇱🇻

Tucked away just south of Scandinavia, the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) offer a vibe quite different from Western or Southern Europe. When I actually visited, I found that every city was as vibrant and beautiful as a pop-up storybook, yet not overly touristy—the ultimate hidden gems where the authentic "warmth of local life" still thrives 🌿✨ You can easily hop between these neighboring countries by bus in just a few hours, making it a breeze to explore! If the Baltics haven't been on your radar, here's a look at the real charm of these three incredible countries ✍️ · -- 🇪🇪 Estonia (Tallinn) A city that perfectly blends the best of the Nordics and the Baltics! With its fairy-tale medieval Old Town and an abundance of chic Nordic-designed goods, just strolling through the streets will make your heart skip a beat 🏰✨ 🇱🇻 Latvia (Riga) Staying near the Old Town square was the best decision! From street music echoing around the corners to bustling local markets, you can soak in the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the entire city. Music and markets 🥐 🇱🇹 Lithuania (Vilnius) An Old Town, a castle, a modern downtown area, and even a former prison! Despite being compact, this city has so many different faces. With plenty of free attractions and stylish cafes, it's the perfect place to kick back and relax ☕️✨ · -- 🍞 The Biggest Surprise!? The "Rye Bread" is Insanely Delicious What blew me away in all three countries was the authentic black bread and rye bread! I got absolutely hooked on its rich, savory aroma and chewy texture. Hopping between local supermarkets to do my own taste tests became one of the greatest joys of the trip 🥖 · -- 💡 Highly recommended if you: ・Prefer taking leisurely strolls through town rather than hitting typical tourist traps ・Want to get a glimpse into authentic local life and vibes ・Are looking to explore a more laid-back Europe with fewer crowds than the West Each of the three countries had its own unique charm. But if I had to pick just one to revisit, it would be Latvia 🇱🇻 Next time, I'd love to explore Gauja National Park, which I missed on this trip 🌲 Be sure to add the "Baltic States" to the bucket list for your next European getaway!

Latvia, in particular, is a Baltic state where the culture of handcrafts thrives. While walking through Riga's Old Town, you'll often see beautiful knitted mittens, but did you know that they have a rich history beyond mere warmth? This time, we'll reveal the secret behind why Latvian mittens are special and introduce two wonderful specialty shops where you can find authentic, traditional mittens that are a cut above the typical souvenir shops that fill the city. ✍️ · -- 🧙♀️ Why are Latvian mittens so famous? In Latvia, mittens have long served as "amulets" and "talismans for happiness." Each of the unique and beautiful geometric patterns woven into them has meaning. For example, there are motifs representing nature gods such as the "Sun God," the "God of Fate," and the "God of Wealth," and they were believed to protect the wearer and bring happiness. Mittens are a sacred item indispensable to life's milestones; there was once a tradition where the bride would hand-knit dozens of pairs of mittens to distribute at her wedding. Mittens, knitted with fine wool yarn and woven as tightly as possible, are characterized by their windproof, surprisingly durable, and warm feel ❄️❤️ · -- 📍 1. Hobbywool ~A cozy secret hideaway. Their cuteness will make your heart flutter just by trying them on~ Hobbywool (Photos 1-8) is easily recognizable by its woody entrance, nestled on a charming cobblestone street in the old town. Stepping inside, you're greeted by a dazzling array of colorful mittens with traditional patterns, displayed almost to the ceiling. When you actually put them on, the gentle warmth of the finely knitted wool spreads slowly, filling you with a feeling of happiness (Photo 1). The shop offers not only mittens, but also a wide variety of handcrafted items, including a light and airy bright yellow summer knit (photo 6) and adorable hand-knitted baby booties neatly arranged in a basket (photo 7)—all filled with the artisans' love! They also have stylishly packaged "mitten knitting kits," making them a great souvenir to knit yourself as a memento of your trip 🧶 · -- 📍 2. SENĀ KLĒTS (National Costume Center) ~Museum-class elegance. A place to experience the essence of Latvian traditional culture~ Another shop you absolutely must visit is 'SENĀ KLĒTS' (photos 9-16). More than just a shop, this place possesses an overwhelming presence, truly deserving of the title "Research Institute for Latvian Folk Costumes and Traditional Culture." Inside the shop, mittens with traditional color schemes varying by region, and more intricate and rigorous geometric patterns, are beautifully and neatly arranged, clearly setting them apart in aura and detail from mass-produced souvenirs. Furthermore, everywhere you look, you'll find exquisite handcrafted items, such as the stunningly displayed shelves of yarns in vibrant gradients (photo 14) and the elegantly adorned, handmade, freestanding coin purses featuring traditional textiles and lace (photo 12). This is a truly exceptional shop that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants to experience authentic Latvian traditional techniques with all their senses and carefully search for their own special "pair of mittens to last a lifetime" 🏛️✨ · -- The magical mittens that have warmed people through Latvia's harsh winters and been an integral part of their lives. Where medieval charm, elegant architecture, and riverside beauty create one of the Baltic's most captivating capitals. ✨ Climbed the tower of St. Peter's Church for an unforgettable panoramic view over Riga's colourful rooftops, the winding Daugava River, and the city's historic skyline—an absolute eye-catching scene that every visitor should experience. From above, the bridges stretching across the river complete a picture-perfect postcard. Wandered through the lively Town Hall Square (Rātslaukums), surrounded by beautifully restored historic buildings, cafés, and the magnificent House of the Black Heads, one of Riga's most iconic landmarks. For a different perspective, enjoyed a relaxing boat cruise on the Daugava River, taking in the city's skyline and waterfront from the water. It was a trip to Latvia during the weekend. Upon arrival we explored around the Old Town Riga (Vecrīga). The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its medieval architecture and cobblestone streets. I would recommend you to visit house of the Blackheads, Riga Cathedral and St. Peter’s Church. 📍Riga, Latvia We then walked around the Art Nouveau District. Riga boasts one of the world's largest collections of Art Nouveau buildings. If you only have limited time. The “must see” one would be Alberta iela and Elizabetes iela. We also visited the famous restaurant, Vincents. A fine dining with a modern twist on Latvian cuisine. We had the Tasting menu, featuring local and seasonal ingredients. I just love it so much 😍😍😍 💰€50-100 per person 📍 Elizabetes iela 19, Riga, LV-1010, Latvia We also visited the Sigulda Medieval Castle. It was built in the early 13th century, the castle offers a glimpse into medieval Latvian history. 📍Address: Pils iela 18, Sigulda, LV-2150, Latvia We also spend sometimes to explore around the Gauja National Park. If you are there, you can do activities like hiking, exploring Gutmanis Cave and Bobsleigh track. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍Sigulda, Latvia We also explored the Cēsis Castle. A well-preserved medieval castle dating back to the 13th century 🏰 📍Pils iela 9, Cēsis, LV-4101, Latvia If you have extra time, I would the you to visit Hotel Cēsis Restaurant. It is a traditional Latvian and European cuisine. We ordered the Latvian pork ribs, Cabbage rolls which were very delicious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💰€15-25 per person 📍Vienības laukums 1, Cēsis, LV-4101, Latvia We also walked around Cēsis Old Town. Walking through the historic streets, visiting St. John’s Church. 📍CCēsis, Latvia #weekendgetaways #trip #vacation

Let me start by just saying : wow ! What a beating town. Riga is a small town and it’s possible to just keep on walking all day long and just stop and watch all the beautiful building all day long! If you get cold you can stop and have a glas of Balsam - the local drink from Latvia. If will make you warm in no time ! They have many cozy pubs and restaurants- and the price is great. For under 20euro you can have a drink and food for the night. We choose to do a free walking tour and on the tour we learn so much about the city. For example the story about the cat in the roof and why it’s facing the Opera. Make sure to put Riga on your next weekend trip away.

📍 Nēģu iela 7, Latgales priekšpilsēta, Rīga, LV-1050 There are many tourist attractions in Riga, the capital of Latvia. One of them is the Riga Central Market, where you can see the locals up close. People usually think that prices in Europe are too expensive, but if you shop at a market like this, you can shop at cheaper prices than in Korea! It's a place where you can have a unique experience and get closer to the locals, so if you're planning a trip to Latvia, be sure to stop by➿🫶 #EuropeanTravel #Latvia #Riga #HotPlace

Latvia is next to Estonia and can be reached by international bus. The most famous attraction in Latvia is the House of Three Brothers. The three rooms are connected but were built in different eras, thus displaying the architectural features of three eras.
