I've dreamed of visiting Italy my entire life. And finally, this country made it onto my around-the-world itinerary! 🗺 I was granted a single-entry Schengen visa for 22 days. I applied directly through the consulate, without any agents. As for the documents, it was just the basics: an application form, accommodation and flight bookings, insurance, bank statements, and a travel itinerary. Nothing overly complicated. I managed to visit 3 cities, and each left me with completely different emotions. 📍 Molveno My first stop was Molveno, which is exactly where the European Championship took place. We came here to compete with our Russian swimming team. It's an incredible spot nestled between mountains and a lake, filled with an atmosphere of sports, support, and international connection. Events like this always remind me of how sports unite people from all over the world. 📍 Venice Next, I headed to Venice, a city that truly blew me away. Narrow streets, canals instead of roads, and a constant feeling like you're inside a fairytale. I was lucky enough to catch the carnival, too. At night, Venice feels completely different—peaceful, beautiful, full of atmosphere, and in some empty streets, even a bit spooky. 📍 Rome The next stop was Rome. I walked around so much here. I visited the Colosseum, both inside and out. It was purely breathtaking; I stood there for hours imagining how people's fates were decided here, and how the gladiator battles went down... The Roman Forum, the Trevi Fountain, and countless streets in the city center. Wandering around the city was incredibly fascinating. 🇻🇦 A separate highlight was visiting the Vatican: the smallest country in the world. It's amazing that right inside Rome, there's an entirely independent country with its own history, vibe, and thousands of pilgrims from all over the globe. 💡 A few tips for anyone planning a trip to Italy: 👉 Bring comfortable shoes; you'll be walking a lot. 👉 It's best to buy tickets for popular attractions online in advance. 👉 Leave your place early in the morning. Fewer tourists and more atmosphere. 👉 Taking food to go is cheaper. Cafes always include a fixed cover charge (coperto) of €2-8 per person in the bill. Coffee at the bar is cheaper than sitting at a table—a true Italian lifehack ☕. 👉 Don't try to see everything at once; it's better to truly feel the city. 🍝 Must-try foods in Italy: Margherita pizza, pasta carbonara, pasta bolognese, lasagna, tiramisu, gelato, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and an espresso at the bar. 🇮🇹 A few facts: Italy is one of the countries with the most UNESCO World Heritage sites in the world, and almost every region has its own distinct cuisine, dialect, and culture. Essentially, every trip here feels like visiting a different country within the same one. Italo competes with Trenitalia in the high-speed segment – ​​both carriers operate between major cities and offer comfortable trains with assigned seats. High-speed trains include Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, and Italo. They allow you to quickly travel between cities, for example, from Rome to Milan in just a few hours. There's always plenty of space and a high level of comfort. If you're looking to save money, consider regional trains – Regionale. They're slower, but significantly cheaper, and are ideal for short routes and trips to smaller cities. Seats are not assigned – you can board any available carriage. Just be sure to pay attention to the carriage class – are you in 1st or 2nd class? Otherwise, the inspector may fine you. InterCity trains deserve a special mention. They offer a convenient balance between speed and price: they're faster than regional trains but cheaper than high-speed trains. Moreover, the ticket already includes a seat, making the journey more comfortable and predictable. The TrenIt app is convenient for travel—it lets you check schedules, prices, and, especially helpful, track the current departure platform in real time. This greatly simplifies navigation at train stations, where information can change. Tickets are easiest to buy through the Trenitalia website or through Italo. It'll be on your left, so keep an eye out! 2. Church of San Clemente⠀ Not far from the Colosseum, a veritable nesting doll of eras is hidden! The church has three tiers (dating from the 1st to the 12th centuries). For 10 euros, you can descend to the lower floors. There you'll find the Temple of the Cult of Mithras, ancient frescoes, and the relics of St. Cyril. Please note: it's closed during the day for siesta; it opens in the morning and after 4:00 PM. 3. Holy Stairs Near the Lateran Palace is a special Christian relic: a 28-step staircase brought from Jerusalem in the 4th century. It is customary to climb it on your knees, reciting a prayer and reconnecting with your faith at the top. You can go inside, but remember to cover your shoulders and knees. 4. Square Colosseum The crowning glory of fascist architecture from the 1940s. Benito Mussolini's travertine whim, fifty meters high, is worth a visit! The houses of Piazza Mincio seem to have stepped out of a magical story. 7. Villa Aldobrandini In the very center of Rome, near Via Nazionale, lies a wonderful, quiet park with a view of the city. 1. GIOLITTI A gelato shop I've always wanted to go to! I ordered a double and had fresh cream on top! I think I got something like pistachio and salted caramel? Piazza di Spagna It was really crowded, but the high-end store windows were so cute and the cityscape was beautiful! 3. The Colosseum It was so impressive when I saw it for the first time! There's so much to see, so it's a good idea to plan your visit with plenty of time! There are restrooms inside too. 5. Borchese Museum First of all, the park surrounding the museum was beautiful. It's full of nature! The lighting changes between day and night, creating a completely different atmosphere!
